Description:

USA-only swap, there is also an international version running. open to newbies who have a complete and well-thought-out profile.

Does the idea of Zentangle scare you a little? If you don't consider yourself a doodler, then perhaps it might.

This is a completely judgement-FREE swap, and the ONLY rule is that you have FUN with it! , You will have TWO partners. (That means you will get TWO ratings.)

DETAILS: Take a piece of 5" x 5" plain card stock. (I recycle off- white Manila file folders.)

Draw lines back and forth, and up and down, 1 1/4" apart. (That will make four rows of squares, across, and four rows of squares, up and down, 16 squares total.)

Fill each tiny square with a zen-doodle. (Or Zentangle, if you prefer.)

Please keep it black and white.

Your swap partners can then use them for ATC's or inchies' backgrounds, or anything else of their choice.

To mail your cards, they can be folded along the center line, to fit into a regular envelope.

You can find hundreds of designs online, in books, or just your imagination!

Fill the entire page.

Repeat. You can either copy the first one, or come up with something entirely different. Send one Zentangle card to each of your swap partners.

As I said, this is completely judgement-FREE!

And remember...MOST important!.....have FUN!

If you have any questions, please just ask, or message me.

I did this swap once before and it was a lot of fun. It's a great way to challenge yourself to learn new tangles or just get started!

Does it HAVE to be card stock or would good quality (140lb) watercolour paper be acceptable?

gramsbuttonbox 04/ 1/2016 #

Yes, heavy paper works great! Thanks for asking

thepinkaholic 04/ 1/2016 #

Great! Thanks for answering! I tangle on watercolour paper and just wanted to make sure I wasn't breaking the rules. I'm a newbie here and want to do everything right.😉

I have both my zentangles ready to be mailed! I did the last one that you hosted and I enjoyed so had to do it again. The last time was my first zentangle experience

Question:

Are you allowed to make the ZENTANGLES/ZENDOODLES with stamps? Or do you HAVE to draw them? I ask because I have a really neat set of stamps that look like ZENTANGLES! (1 from the Stampendous Line and a few from Ranger's Dylusions line - those are REALLY NEAT ONES!) They are WONDERFUL! Unique, and come in All sizes! I make pages, squares, cards, ATC's with them all the time! My kids LOVE to color them too! They look like those pages in the "grown-Up Coloring books". And I can fill a small square or a 12x12 page! Lol So a 5x5 would be EASY!!! If not then could use the stamps to fill part of it and fill the rest of the square with my own additions added onto them if necessary. Would that be ok? Or do I just need to make all of it hand-drawn?

CreativityLane 04/28/2016 #

@CraftyQueen2016 - Those stamps sound really neat! I'll have to look into them. I can think of many ways to incorporate them into mixed media work!

But as for this swap, I think I would be disappointed if I spent time to make - completely by hand - original doodles/tangles and then received stamped ones in return. Now that's just MY opinion and since I'm not hosting this swap, my opinion isn't what matters. I'll be interested to see what @gramsbuttonbox says.

gramsbuttonbox 04/28/2016 #

CraftyQueen...that may be, but to answer your question, "no".

the whole point of this swap is to give people a chance to MAKE them. Also, this is open to newbies, who probably do not have the amount of crating supplies, etc, that a long-time crafter might.

The only reason I can think of, that you're d even think to do this, would maybe be to color them, and hoping to make yours the "best of the best?...that is why it says "judgement free". This swap is not about coloring, and in fact states, to keep them black and white.

This is NOT a competition, and I think you would risk a lower rating, because your partner would have sent off HER originals, only to get. A single stamped image from you. I'm sorry, but I do not see the challenge in that.

(Good point, CreativityLane)

Are these to be in black and white, only?

Pupkitmomof4 04/30/2016 #

Please do not answer my question. In my excitement, I totally skipped over the black and white part in directions. Silly me

gramsbuttonbox 04/30/2016 #

I like "silly"!

Heehee

Ummm wow, I didn't mean to upset/offend anyone by my question. It was just that, a question. I NEVER craft anything as a "competition". And I certainly wasn't trying to be "the best of the best" at anything!!! That was a pretty far fetched assumption!! And I had NO intentions on coloring them myself. As I clearly read where it states they were to be black and white. (But didn't you say that yours were on Manila folders!)

I had simply stated that my children liked to color them and made the comment that they looked like the adult coloring book pages, because I thought it was pretty clever and neat!

I'm also in another swap that is exactly that (adult coloring book pages) and I actually, mistakenly got the two swaps confused when I even posted the question in the first place!

And it isn't a single stamp its many tiny ones and it would have been a collage (ZENDOODLE style) of them all not just a single one slapped on a page - and the way that I stated my question would required a tedious placement of them in order to fill a page thus showing my "work" in the finished project. And I had intended on stamping in black on white 180 lb heavy weighted card stock.

I had ONLY asked because I was EXCITED to use my new stamps (plural) and thought I would share them and possibly give others some creative ideas or inspiration on how to utilize their supplies for other things. And like I stated previously was posted in the wrong swap anyhow!!! But I really am a little surprised at the type of responses I received when questions are clearly stated as ok to ask!! My mistake! As I AM a newbie here! Hence the question.

None the less, my COMPLETLY HAND DRAWN items are finished, labeled and ready to go; they'll be will be in the mail tomorrow!
