Description:

When I was younger, I used to do puzzle swaps with my pen pals and I think it would be fun to exchange a puzzle with someone from anywhere in the world! Swappers seemed to enjoy the first run of this swap so I thought I'd see if there is any interest to keep it going as a monthly thing.

How it works: Select a small puzzle, it does NOT need to be profile based, please keep this in mind when rating your partner. You will put it together and gently flip it over so the blank side is facing you. (This is where it helps to select a puzzle with a small-ish number of pieces.) On the back of the puzzle, write a short note to your swap partner about anything you like, what you did last weekend, your favorite food, or what you have in common. Be sure to include the swap name and your SB name. When you're done with your note, break the puzzle back into pieces and put them in a zip lock bag before putting them in an envelope; spread them out a bit so the envelope stays flat. (The bag is for extra security should any damage occur to the envelope while in transit.) The flatter the envelope, the less postage it will require. Here's the kicker: DON'T INCLUDE THE PACKAGING THE PUZZLE CAME IN! Your partner (and in turn, you) will have to put the puzzle together without an image to reference, this is also why it's helpful to choose a puzzle that doesn't have a million pieces. Make sure you put ALL of the pieces in the bag. When you receive your puzzle, put it together and flip it over for your swap partner's message. As long as they sent a complete puzzle, included a note, and sent it on time, be sure to give your partner a good rating.

Partners will be assigned on August 1st. Puzzles must be mailed by August 15th. No handmade puzzles. It must be store bought or otherwise professionally printed and cut.

Where to find an appropriate-sized puzzle? Dollar stores are an excellent place to start on your puzzle hunt. They typically have small boxed ones in the toy aisle, between 25-50 pieces. After all, you're not sending a reference image so let's try to keep this fun and not frustrating! Use thrift store puzzles at your own risk, it is your responsibility to provide your partner with a complete puzzle and sometimes incomplete games and puzzles end up in second hand stores. It might not be worth it to purchase one of these to then find out you can't use it! The maximum you should spend on a new puzzle for this swap is $5. Again, I can't stress checking out the dollar store enough!

This swap is newbie friendly! It's also a good chance for those with low ratings to earn a bit of good recognition. If you feel this makes it risky to join this swap, I understand. But I believe everyone deserves a chance to build themselves up!

I will angel if necessary but this is a fun little swap so I don't think it will come to that. :) Keep in mind this is an international swap and mail travels at different times. If your swap hasn't arrived in what you feel is a timely manner, click on "rate your swap partners" and then click the link to their profile to find out their location. If they're in a country that is known to take a while with delivering post, give them a little extra time before contacting them. In the event you feel that you have been flaked on, you must contact your partner to give them the chance to rectify the situation. If they have not responded to your message within a week of sending it, you must leave an appropriate rating and then contact me regarding your missing puzzle. I will angel.

Happy swapping!

This is a fun swap! Whoever has my name, feel free to use any size puzzle, as big as you'd like, because I love doing jigsaw puzzles :) Just a tip for anyone -- if you build your puzzle on cardboard or something similar, you can slap another piece of cardboard on top and flip it over super easy without breaking apart any pieces.

Very true @shinyserra It took me a long time to figure out little tricks to keeping the puzzle together!

HI there, I can only find kiddie puzzles at the dollar store for 24 pieces and the next size up is 100 pieces. Which would you prefer I buy?

I'll keep an eye out for the next time this swap comes around, because now I've gotten myself a suitable puzzle for this :) Do you host this monthly or irregular?

mandigutterrose 08/15/2016 #

It is up to you on the number of pieces, keep in mind that you have to flip it over to write as well. You can also wait to see what your partner's profile says, a kid's Disney puzzle would actually make quite a few swapper's happy. I'm trying to host this swap monthly.

I have sent a courtesy message to all participants who have not yet marked their swaps as sent. Please let your partners know when they may expect their swap if you must send it late.
