For this swap you will need an 8x10 canvas. Use one with an edge or a lip on it, not just the flat canvas board. This way it's easier for someone to hang.

On your canvas you need to use several different mediums to create some mixed media or collage style art. If you have never done mixed media art before, this may not be the swap for you. Use Google images to see examples of mixed media/collage art. There are also several great YouTube videos online as well.

The theme is sender's choice. I usually tend to do steampunk, floral, or vintage-inspired but I may try to push myself into another area for this swap. We'll see! Take a look at your partner's profile and see if anything inspires you. They may have a certain color combo they like or a certain animal or whatever. Use their profile to get ideas and then create something in the theme of your choice. If they have clowns on their dislike list, I would definitely steer clear of clowns.

Both of these styles use layers so make sure you get creative and use different mediums to create your layers. Here are some mediums that I use when creating my mixed media art:

Printed or plain tissue paper

Old book pages

Maps

Old sewing patterns

Vintage or current ephemera

Ink - Ink pads, spray inks, pen ink

Rubber stamps

Paint/Gesso

Gelatos

Modeling paste

Stencils

Gel medium/Mod podge

texture pastes - texture mix ins like sand or glass beads or glitter

Glossy Accents

Napkins

Watercolor or Inktense pencils

Cheesecloth

Metal charms, trinkets, and do-dads

Drywall webbing tape

Paper flowers

Gemstones/Rhinestones

Vintage photos (or current ones)

Game pieces/Scrabble tiles

Sponges/Texture tools/scrapers

Paint pens, gel pens, charcoal pencils

Ribbon, lace, trim

This should give you plenty of ideas. I'm sure you all have your certain go-to mixed media favorites as well. Feel free to go outside your comfort zone and use a medium you haven't tried before!

Rules: You must have a 4.99 rating. U.S. Only due to shipping costs. Please send on time. I'm giving a month to work on it so that should be plenty of time. If it's not, let me know before the swap starts and I can always extend the deadline prior to the swap starting. Please only send your best work. It should take time and effort, not be slapped together last minute. Take pride in what you send! Should the need arise I will most definitely angel but I hope that's not the case!

Please include a little note with your art describing what techniques and/or mediums you used in case your partner wants to try something themself! Also remember to include the swap name and your SwapBot id somewhere in your note and SIGN YOUR ARTWORK! Signing your artwork gives it that personal touch and everyone will know that you made it. With all of that being said, have fun with this! I hope you all will join. :)

Just wondering if anyone has an idea of the best way to protect and mail these while not paying an absorbatant postage fee? Have my canvas but still playing with ideas on what I want to create!

Well what I have done in the past is first wrap the canvas in parchment paper and then wrap it in thin foam wrap and then stick it in a big envelope. It made it there perfectly and cost around $5 or $6. But it really depends on how heavy the piece is. That was for a lightweight collage on canvas.

Great idea! I was thinking maybe just a regular priority box which is much cheaper to send than a flat rate for lighter weight canvases....but not sure yet what I'm doing so not sure what kind of weight I'm looking at. I have oodle of bubble wrap and large envies though, so love that idea!
