Description:

Fun Filled Altered Oats Crafty Can!

or "FFAOCC" :D

I had the idea for this swap after Mr Gem finished off a box of oatmeal - the kind in the paperboard canister? and I was wondering what to use the can for ... I wanted to do some kinda fill-swap, so: Think along the lines of a Whimsey Jar or Matchbox Fill - just on a bigger scale!

Here's the breaky-downy:

  • 1 Partner, International
  • Sign-ups end January 10, 2009 (partners assigned by 11th)
  • Send-by date is February 23, 2009
  • 4.7 or better rating, no uncompleted swaps within last 60 days
  • New swappers welcome with PREAPPROVAL - message me 1st!
  • Please have a completely filled out, updated profile
  • NOTE I will personally angel this swap, so no fear of not getting your parcel

Each participant will post THREE themes they like in this swap thread.

EXAMPLES: They could be a particular style or color scheme, a type of item, or a craft you enjoy: Asian, Tea, Sewing - Blue&Gold, Gummy Candies, ATCs ... etc, etc ... Just list any three different themes ya want!

Once partners are assigned, everyone will then take one empty, and CLEAN paperboard oatmeal canister (approx 7x4 in / 18x10 cm or 18 oz / 510 g in size) with lid, and decorate the outside (paint it, cover it with paper, turn it into a tote of some kind! Whatever!), then fill it up with art, craft and goodie items based on one or more of your partner's posted themes, and their profile. Be creative! You can choose one theme and run with that, or mix n match between all three ... Make it fun, and something you yourself would enjoy receiving. Not everything has to be storebought! You can destash your own supplies, handmake some things, do the dollar store or thrift shop route, but do be aware of any potential allergy or other issues in your partner's profile. If you need a set dollar amount we can go with a $20 US limit (max), before shipping. VERY IMPORTANT! Please take care when packaging your can for mailing - while they are not as breakable as jars, they can still be crushed if they aren't sturdily packed, and you don't want to spend all that time making a fabulous container only to have it arrive mushed up and the contents possibly ruined as well. Same goes for the items inside ... try to place the items securely in the canister, using tissue or other packing material to fill any gaps. Wrap stuff individually if you'd like.

Now, I don't generally host too many public swaps, but when I do I try to make them unique, interesting and really want everyone to have a great time both making and receiving, so I absolutely expect your best effort put into them. I also am a very involved host and DO read profiles, DO check your ratings and CAN wield a mean BanHammer (to borrow a term from the wonderful Suzanne) Hosting this one is a way for me to get my 2009 swaps off to a kickass start. Ya have a month to sign up, then 6 weeks to make & send - plennnnty of time to chow down on some oatmeal and get that can emptied! OM NOM!

Lemme know if I missed any pertinent info or if you need something clarified.

Happy New Year, everybody! I've just gotten online to tidy up and get back in the game - will be reworking my profile and making a few minor changes to this swap (to get those on the fencer's to sign up, hopefully) ... Check back in when I'm done.

Thanks for letting me join!

My themes are: 1. Game & Puzzle Pieces -- you know, those "extras" that you're not sure where they belong or there's so many missing that you can't play the game any more 2. Bright colored craft items (to borrow from bishopharbin) - my craft room is done in red, blue, green, & yellow -- very bright & cheery! 3. Handmade goodies -- see my profile for likes/dislikes

Update / Note

Hey all! I've updated the swap details above to let you know that I myself will angel this one should the need arise - which it WON'T ... stares you all down with eyebrows raised... heheh ... And also I extended the sign-up by a day but may extend it further as I've had a couple people say the swap got booted from their list (Not sure if that's a byproduct of some of the recent changes here at SBot or what, but I wanna make sure everyone who wants to sign up can ...)

Okay that's it - I gotta go clean my floors while the dog's at the vet getting his bath! Ciao!

Okay, kids - partners are assigned! There's only four of us, but good things come in small packages, so I suppose the same holds true for us - good swppers come in small batches :D Also, to cut down on confusion I've deleted the posts from those who submitted themes and/or were watching the swap but ended up not joining ...

Have fun, and be sure to communicate with each other (and me) should any issues come up :)

Where are our swap buddies posted?

gem 01/13/2009 #

Hi Kele,

If you go to the upper right corner on (this) swap page you'll see a box with links: under Swap member options there is a link to "See the partners you send to" - that is who YOU will send to and it will show their mailing address and real/SwapBot names - partners are automatically assigned via the SwapBot system so you won't necessarily be paired with the person you got. You CAN cheat a lil bit and see who is sending to you by clicking on the link to "Rate your partners and coordinator" but I prefer to be surprised so I (try to!) avoid looking at that until the swap is over :)

Hope that helps! Lemme know if you need anything else ... ~ gem ~

How's it going? Still four weeks to go before packages must be sent ... plenty of time still, but I'll keep checking and if everyone's sent before then I'll amend the timeframe (if I can) I think I'm about ready to start decorating my can and filling it - I have a very fun one to do, and an idea that hopefully will turn out as cool as it seems in my mind!

Anyway, just checking in ... as always message or email me (gemATgemgirlartDOTcom) if you have questions or need anything :)

TickTock! Nineteen days to go! Hope we're all making progress :)

gem 02/10/2009 #

10 more days! Reminder emails sent this morning :)

gem 02/19/2009 #

Hi all! I am extending the send-date a few days to Monday, the 23rd - in case anyone needs to wait on a Friday paycheck for the postage or needs the weekend to finish up their can.
