Description:

For this swap, you will be slightly modifying two existing items to turn them into bookmarks. You will send one of the bookmarks to each of your two partners.

The “found” part: You’ll start by finding an object that was not originally intended to be a bookmark but which, with just a little modification, would make a good one. The material could be paper, cardboard, vinyl, thin plastic, fabric, or something else. It may or may not contain words, images, texture, etc., but it should be at least marginally interesting-looking (no plain cardstock, for example).

The “minimally processed” part: You’ll then alter your item in such a way to make it useful as a bookmark. You may need to cut/trim it, stick it to a sturdier backing, laminate it, put a ribbon on it, etc. Avoid doing more to the item than is necessary to make it into a really good bookmark—for example, avoid adding stickers or glitter, etc.

Examples and ideas to get your juices flowing:

*Cardboard container—cereal box, for example, showing cute drawing/unusual words—cut down to size

*Laminated candy bar wrapper, interesting ribbon, or piece of lace

*Fancy-design paper plate cut into bookmark shape, adhered to card stock to make it stiffer

*Part of a greeting card front cut into a tall rectangle, hole punched in top with a small ribbon run through it

*Duct tape in two different designs stuck back to back

Be creative, thinking outside the box to make something simple yet delightfully different. Your two bookmarks may be the same or different. Please do strive to make them very book-friendly (not too thick, nothing that will stick to or damage pages, etc.) so that they can actually be used. The theme and materials used are completely sender’s choice, but do check your partners’ profiles to make sure you are not sending anything they will absolutely hate or be offended by.

Sign up by May 31 and send by June 8. You need an average rating of 4.9 to join, and you should have at least five Type-3 swaps under your belt. No recent 1s or 3s. If your rating history or swap volume is slightly lower than that, p.m. me and we can talk. I reserve the right to ban anyone for any reason.
