Description:

Our inspiration for this swap comes from Somerset Memories, Autumn 2014.

The project was originally created as a pin to wear. Let's adapt some of the techniques to create a sweet little house that can be tucked into a grouping, or sit proudly on a shelf.

Techniques:

  • Basic sewing
  • Basic artsy techniques like painting, collage, stamping

I am listing the very basic supplies here, but a more complete list (some optional) and the basic tutorial and info can be found in the group forum HERE

Basic Supplies:

  • Muslin fabric
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Book pages
  • Decoupage medium (Mod Podge)
  • Gesso
  • Paints, glitter, rub-ons, rubber stamps

If there is enough interest, I would love for us to do a few of these so we can each end up with a little collection of sweet houses.

You will need to create a house template for this swap. I've cut one from light cardboard. I started with a 4 X 5 1/2" size and cut down about 2" to create the roof. I think if we all use this approx. size, that will work out well with the seam allowance and give us enough creative space.

Since we are using this project for inspiration, we won't have to do everything exactly as she has done. There are just a few basic rules, and the rest is up to you to have fun and create.

Let's create with these must-do's in mind (aka absolute requirements):

  • house shape created in muslin fabric
  • start with approx 4 X 5 1/2" size before sewing
  • your house should have several "layers". That can include paint, image, bits of book page, glitter glue, embellishment, etc.

The project photo is also on my flickr page for a closer look. I will try to add a couple more for inspiration. Note, that she added wings to hers, but that part is not necessary. If you wish to, you can certainly do so!
