Description:

Nervous about snail mail during COVID-19 quarantine? But need a creative outlet?

Try zine-making. Create, scan, and swap by email. You start with paper* and end with paper, but the mode of delivery is electronic.

The theme is poetry.

Any form of poetry including haiku, black-out poetry, sonnet, etc.

The zine can be:

  • Your own poetry or the poetry of another author (with credit)
  • One author or multiple authors (for example multiple authors on the same theme)
  • One poem, or multiple poems

Turn one sheet of paper into an 8-page pocket-size zine. If you have never made a zine, check these links for instructions:

(*)My Powerpoint zine template. Feel free to use it if you'd like to make your zine digitally. The template can be used in Google Slides or Powerpoint. Download it first, then upload it to Google Slides or Powerpoint. See How to Make a Zine using PowerPoint or Google Slides.

The back page should have your swap-bot name. Most people also include the swap title.

Make your zine, scan it, email it.

Set your scanner's DPI setting (dots per inch) to 600dpi for a sharp image.

When you receive other member's zines, you can print and construct their zine to add to your collection.

The number of swap partners will be equal to the number who sign up, that way everyone gets to see all of the zines. I can provide an email list if the participants exceed 4. For a quick copy-n-paste the bcc (blind carbon copy) email field.

I check that all zines have been rated. I expect everyone to email their zine by the 'last day to send your items' date. When all is sent and rated I will add a 'finished' stamp and a photo of the zines to the discussion section.

Should it be scanned? How about just taking photo from phone camera? It should still be visible.

I'm sorry everyone. Because I messed up and set the numbers of partners at 3 then assigned partners, it stuck. I set it to 6 after assigning. We still only get to rate 3 people. My apologies. I'm going to leave comments in the Comments section of the remaining 3 participants.

@elkalsa the recipient should be able to print your zine and fold it accurately. I think if you photograph it the folds will not match up properly. (Sorry this message took so long, there isn't an alert system to let me know that someone posted something in the Discussion section and in my fluster to post something about the partners error I missed seeing that you posted a message on the 11th.)
