So, this is the first swap I've hosted on Swap-Bot, but I've had the idea for ages, ever since listening to [the real] Tuesday Weld's 'I, Lucifer' album, which happens to be a sort of soundtrack to the book of the same name.
In this swap you will choose a book, preferably one you love enough and know well enough to come up with a soundtrack for it, and you will create a mix CD soundtrack for it. You will then send a copy of the book and the CD to your swap partner. Your soundtrack can be inspired by the characters in the book, it can be songs that the characters listen to or mention in the book, or it can be songs that if you were in charge of making the book into a movie you would but in the soundtrack. Be creative, you don't need to stick to any one genre or even time frame. If you want to read 18th century lit and score it with techno for your update, that's totally cool. For added points, let your partner know about how the songs relate to the book, or which scene a song should play during.
To set an expectation I can see coming up, the book you send does not have to be brand new and in mint condition. You may send a new one if you wish or you may send a pre-loved copy from a used bookstore or your own personal library. However, the book should be in readable condition, no pages falling out or covers falling off.
This swap is about connecting music you love to a book you love and not so much about checking out your partner's profile and picking things in the genres they like, so if you are not open to being sent mixes in a diversity of genres, you've been forewarned. =)
Newbies are welcome, but please have your info filled out and message me about it, or I reserve the right to remove you. Everyone else no no sends and please have 4.8 or over rating.
I've been flaked on in countless mix trades over the years and I know how much it sucks to put in all that work and get nothing back. So while I can't promise that I can angel the book part of the swap (this depends on how many people there are) I can, and will angel the CD portion.
I'm setting the signup out to give people a chance to come up with their books and start thinking of songs.
Also this is open to international, but the books should be in English.
Edit 3 Mar: I've upped the ratings requirement due to concerns about low rated swappers flaking as I agree that the amount of effort means I should try to ensure that no one gets flaked on as best I can from the get-go.
