Description:

EDIT: This swap will now by International!

This is a general magic yarn ball swap! Basically, you take a ball of yarn and wind it around small objects to create a unique brand of fun for the recipient. Much as seen here: http://whipup.net/2006/04/25/kids-yarn-project-the-magic-wool-ball

Acrylic yarns are alright, but make sure they're something your partner would actually use! Try to avoid scratchy, cheap yarns. Absolutely NO FUN FUR. You must use the whole skein!
Try to keep the value of your contents at about $10.

There's no theme, but try to make it a ball that your partner will LOVE.

I'll be banning anyone with a rating less than 5. Newbies are welcome with a complete profile, as long as they send me a message with proof of trust, such as eBay feedback.

This is my first time hosting, hopefully I'll keep all bases covered! I'd appreciate any help with picking out any flakers that sign up.

Magic yarn balls are sooooo much fun! Count me in!

RudeNun 05/24/2007 #

I'm a beginner in the knitting department. What is fun fur?

Lithmire 05/24/2007 #

RudeNun, this is fun fur: http://www.lionbrand.com/yarns/funFur.htm A lot of people don't like using them, and they aren't very well suited to this anyway.

I hope someone will do this as an international swap someday! sniff sniff!

I came across a couple of pictures on Flickr and wondered what this "magic yarn ball" was all about. Very interesting and fun idea. Can't wait to play!

I'm so happy someone's doing another magic yarn ball swap! ^_^ Maybe this should be international? Last time I had an international partner and got some exquisite chocolate from Estonia! Besides, what with the new global priority flat rates, all you need to do is make sure it doesn't go over 4 pounds and it will cost about the same amount to send to someone in the U.S. =)

Lithmire 05/25/2007 #

Good point! I'd completely forgotten about the flat rate changes. I suppose I can go through with making it international, with that in mind!

ozrob 05/25/2007 #

darn, I just started an international swap like this too.>:o{

Fun fur seems like it would be difficult to knit with. What do you all make with it?

ninethreeo 06/13/2007 #

RudeNun IMHO I can't imagine making any garments or anything out of fun fur. I do like to look unique, but there's a limit!

One thing it's REALLY cute for though is knitted teddies. The wilder the fun fur the better the bear I think....

I usually make my cat small toys with it. XD He really appreciates the varieties that resemble feathers.

My yarnball has just arrived from Wendy. It was so creative (with ribbon instead of yarn, since I'm not a knitter) and full of lovely little treats. All so, so lovely!! Thank you Wendy.
