Description:

I love scavenger hunts, and thought it would be fun to try and find books that fit certain criteria—colors, words, symbols, images, etc. I will continue this swap with a different set of scavenger hunt items each month.

For the December swap, you will send your partner ONE book, from your own collection or from a used bookstore, thrift shop, etc. that contains all three items from the following list:

  1. The more the merrier! :) The author of your book must have at least three components to their name-- first-middle-last, first-maiden-last, (ex. Sue Monk Kidd), a hyphenated last name, or a title before or after the author's name such as Dr., Sr. or Jr. OR, you can use a book that has more than one author, or an author and illustrator listed together.

  2. Merry X-mas! :) The letter "X" must appear somewhere on the front or back covers (in the title, in the author's name, as part of a Roman numeral, or anywhere else), as long as it is on the front or back COVER.

  3. O Christmas Tree! :) You book must have an image of a tree, any tree, on the cover or within the pages, OR contain a description of a tree somewhere in the book.

NOTE: The titles of my categories are just for fun... your books DO NOT have to (and probably won't) be about Christmas, and I in no way mean to exclude anyone who doesn't celebrate Christmas. Though you can certainly run with that theme if you know your partner would appreciate it! :)

Books can be any type or genre—fiction, biography, self-help, cook books, how-to, children’s, little “gifty” books, etc. Sender’s choice, but feel free to check your partner’s profile to get ideas or avoid specific dislikes.

To recap: you will have ONE partner and send them ONE book, but it needs to have all three scavenger hunt items represented in/on it. (3+ author names, letter X on cover, tree). There was some confusion with this in the first (November) swap-- some folks thought we were sending three books, one for each of the items. Nope, just one book, representing all three items. Feel free to send Media Mail (particularly if your book is quite heavy), but do not include anything else in the package, other than the note tucked inside the book!

Books can (and most likely will) be gently used, but must be readable and clean.

PLEASE include a note describing where all three items can be found (if it’s not obvious), and anything you’d like to add about the book, your reaction to it, etc. Half the fun of book-swapping is discussing the books with our friends! :)

Unfortunately, I have to make this one US/Canada/Mexico only… Mailing books overseas, especially heavy ones, can be super- expensive. :( But feel free to start an international version if you’d like!

The legal mumbo-jumbo: No recent ones or threes— please take care of your old swaps before signing up for new ones! Newbies (with less than 5 rated snail mail swaps) welcome with fully filled-out profile, but PLEASE PM me before signing up! I will automatically ban you if you skip this step! Please don’t sign up unless you’re committed to sending!!! Also, I will automatically ban anyone who has joined my previous swap but hasn't sent their book yet.

Enjoy!
