Description:

This is one of two YEAR LONG ATC swaps I am doing this year. You do not have to participate every month, but if you do, at year's end you will have a complete ATC collection of every U.S Poet Laureate to date. Some months you will be doing 3 ATCs, some months 4 (there are 45 US Poet Laureates to date). So as to know your poets better, I suggest reading at least a few of each of their poems. I checked already and all of the first four poets have their poems on www.poemhunter.com. You can read brief bios there as well.

As to the ATCs you may do portraits, illustrate a part of a particular poem, use an actual quote or stanza. You may use all forms of embellishment, so long as your ATC adheres to the standard 2 1/2" X 3 1/2" size and is thoughtfully executed (something you yourself would be proud to possess in your ATC collection). This month's U.S Poet Laureates are: ALLEN TATE (1943-1944), ROBERT PENN WARREN (1944-1945), LOUISE BOGAN (1945-1946), and KARL SHAPIRO (1946-1947).

As to qualifications. No newbies. You must have at least a 4.80 to participate (no recent ones/threes). If there are extenuating circumstances, please contact me before entering this swap for my approval. Also you MUST RATE! Saying, "thank you" is only good manners, and if you are known not to play polite you will also be banned. I do always 'angel' the swaps I host, and on these longer, larger swaps of 4 cards, I am especially zealous on review of ratings and profiles. As a boonka to your partner ry perhaps including a poem in your envelope or perhaps an ATC of another poet (not on the Laureate list). Let's all have fun with this!

I think you have brilliant ideas for swaps. I'm in this rut of really wanting to go back to school but have not the time to focus so much time and energy right now (two jobs and recently bought a home). But educational/research based swaps, I think, will do the trick for now! ^.^ I'm watching for now, but will be working on the cards anyway to see if I can handle it. I'll join closer to the deadline if I can finish them in time. Thank you so much for the lengthy deadlines!

I know with these year long swaps that more time is needed to mentally prepare oneself. I am certain you are up to the task. It'll be over a whole month past the holidays before the first set is due. Have a great Thanksgiving (if here is where you are - USA).

Well I did my ATCs tonight, but I think I have hit upon an interesting way to present them, but I wont start that until tomorrow. I hope everyone will enjoy doing this series as much as I do. I go through color moods and mine for this first installment is grey, black & red mostly.

We're actually doing Laureates 2-5 on this first swap. I had looked over the first poet (a thousand mortifications!) but rectified it in swap #3. So as long as you go by their Laureate date they served (and not number them) you'll be fine. Just a heads up!
