Description:

The start of a new year is always a time of reflection on the past year and thinking about improvements for the next year. So let's resolve to go a little "greener" in 2010 with some reusable grocery bags. Let's do our part to be a little more eco-friendly when we're grocery shopping and minimize using plastic bags!

You will:

  • Have 1 partner.
  • Mail 1 handmade, reusable shopping bag. It may be sewn, knitted, crocheted, or any other manner of durable handcrafting. Use your method of choice. Edited to add: The bag should be approximately 13" x 15" or larger and resemble the size available at most grocery stores and supermarkets.
  • The bag need not be profile specific, so you may start crafting it at any time.
  • Use of recycled materials to craft your bag is perfectly fine, but all materials should be in very good condition.
  • Send a little note with your package to make it a little more personal! (more than just your name and swap name, please)
  • Send by the due date of January 25. In the rare circumstance that you must be late, please PM your partner AND the swap host by the due date. Sending on time is a swap requirement.
  • Rate your partner fairly and in a timely manner.

Please also:

  • Have a minimum of 4.9 rating.
  • Have been rated for at least 5 package or craft swaps (Type 3).
  • No unexplained 1s. (ratings responses to any ones are very helpful)
  • No overdue swaps or other worrisome behavior.

Let's start off 2010 with a fun swap and hopeful wish for a healthier planet.

Is there a size requirement?

SweetClementine 12/10/2009 #

I don't have a specific number in mind; I'm just asking that people send a bag large enough to carry a reasonable amount of groceries.

Here's a link to 35 bag patterns. I hope it's helpful!

i was part of a reusable grocery bag swap last month and sent out a handmade...very unique bag and in return got a really dumb bag that was no bigger then a sheet of paper...not handmade...i would like to make a request that the bags sent are standard reusable grocery bag size...about 15 x 18...somewhere around there.? puh-leeez?

I have made my bag - Can't wait for partner to be assigned :)

Let's go with approximately 13" x 15" or larger. The style I usually make is larger than this, but I did a bunch of looking on Etsy and think that 13x15 still looks like a reasonable size. We're aiming for bags that are roughly the size of ones available at most grocers, supermarkets, and retail stores. I hope that helps to clarify!
