Description:

I need to lose weight and just can't seem to get motivated. I have plenty of resources available, and opportunity, but accountability is what I think I am lacking. So, I propose an accountability swap.

Each person will have 1 partner to send to, and another to receive from, so one rating, but 2 new accountability partners. Here is what I propose. Write your partner a letter introducing yourself, then journal for one full week. Start journalling by February 8th. You must make an entry every day. You can be as detailed or as vague as you like. Certainly more detail will help you. You may choose to include things like what you ate, what exercise you did, what good choices you made, struggles you are having most often, etc. whatever you feel like writing for that day. You might just write "had a bad day, starting fresh now!!"

At the end of the week, mail your journal letter to your partner. This will be by February 15th. As soon as you receive week one's letter from your other partner, give them their rating. If they journalled every day, AND sent to you on time, they will get at least a five. Hopefully you will receive their letter in less than seven days, but of course there is no guarantee.

Timing will be crucial here... you must journal 7 days, starting on or before day one of the swap, Feb 8, and mail out before the send by date, Feb 15th. No late sends for this one, please.

Meanwhile begin week two's journal letter, including another brief introduction of yourself, and journal something about your weight loss progress each day for the next seven days. You will send this to the person who sends you their week one journal. Be sure to read their journal letters when they arrive and offer support or encouragement where applicable. Write little notes on it ('good job!") and return it when you mail yours out. You will continue on this way for 4 weeks. That means you will write 4 weeks' journal letters, you will mail 2 to your "send to" partner and 2 to your "receives from" partner. You will also receive 4, 2 from each partner.

You and your partners may stop after 4 weeks, or keep going for another round of accountability!

This will be US only this first time around, but feel free to copy for your country or for an international swap.

You must have nearly perfect ratings to participate, you must have ten rated flat mail or package swaps, and you must have a full profile. If you have ones or threes from the past that you'd like to explain, PM me and we will see. :)

NO FLAKING. We need to build each other up, not let each other down.

I am sure there will be questions. :)

I'd like to do this too, but I'm in Belgium...

I'd like the letters to (hopefully) reach the partners within a few days of being sent, hence the idea of US only. Either of you are welcome to copy and paste the description and begin an international one, or an international e-mail version! :) The e-mail idea might work out well time-wise.

Oh I am stealing a wonderful journaling idea from someone in swap-bot!! Now I am so excited! :)

Oh such a cute idea. @mypeacetree has pictures on flicker of her envelope journal she made! I LOVE making envelopes so I have made a 7 day envelope journal for mine... 7 lovely envelopes, bound together with a piece of ribbon, and each day I will put a letter in one. (I should have made this swap for other things, too... it really could be ANYTHING someone needs accountability for, not just weight loss!)

I think I am being challenged today cause I don't get it..... Am I reading this wrong? It sounds like you actually have two partners instead of one....send your original notes to the assigned partner and then send a follow up weeks worth of notes to the person you receive from.....all within a weeks time frame????? correct

hollycm6 02/ 6/2010 #

Yes and no... 2 partners, but within two weeks not one... so, week one you are writing to partner A, the one who rates you, you mail out, and you receive from partner B. Week two you are writing to partner B, the one you rate, and who sent you a letter the week before. Then week three you are writing to A, (who sent back to you last week), week 4 to B. Each person will have 2 accountability partners. you only rate WEEK ONE... after that the accountability either fizzles out or you guys keep it going. The plan is 30 days, but you could certainly keep it up as long as you like. With penpal swaps I have been in you also have two penpals, and it seems like one always fizzles out... this way you have a better chance of being able to help each other.
