Description:

This swap is for newbies - both to quilting and/or to Swap-Bot!

I realize that it is difficult to get 'significant' ratings as a new swapper, and I also realize the potential reluctance/issues that can be associated with 'newbies' - so this swap will be kept relatively simple & small, to reduce the 'risk' factor, while still allowing newcomers (such as myself!) to be involved in a fun swap.

You will be assigned one partner only. You must send your partner a fat quarter of fabric (suitable for quilting of course!).

Check your partner's profile for color likes/dislikes, or any theme preferences they may have, so you can choose a really great fabric for them! Please send good quality fabric that YOU would love to receive yourself!

US only, as I would like this to be a fairly quick turn-around. I LOVE fabrics, so if this swap works out, I may do more FQ swaps.

This swap is for newbies, but you must have a completed profile! Others - 4.5 rating or better with no no-sends. Beginner quilters, build your stash!! Of course, experienced quilters are more than welcome too!

Feel free to leave comments below & tell us about your current projects, or anything else that might help your partner pick out the best FQ for you!

I like stripes and polka dots especially. Bright colors are good too. I also like vintage or 30's reproduction prints, and retro kids prints. No animals please. :) Day of the dead is fun too.

I love dots/geometrics, bright, happy colors, and anything vintage/repro vintage.

Thanks for the comments, Piggybaby & Patty! I hope others will jump in & let us know their favorites as well!

I love most anything, but I'm especially partial to anything toned in blues/greens/lavender/purples -- reminds me of the ocean which I dearly love & miss!

We LOVE decorating for the holidays so Christmas prints are welcome any time!

About the only colors/prints I don't like are ultra-bright 'florescent' colors & not crazy about browns in general.

Thanks everyone for participating in my first swap - I hope everyone has fun with this one!

I would like to receive anything but prefer small prints and bright colors. Thanks, Mildred

this will be fun :) as for the types of patterns that i like: anything retro, victorian, or polka dotted are my favs. i love greens, grays, blacks & whites :D

I like brights, retro/vintage prints, those cute novelty prints from Japan that are popular now with owls and such, and nature/earth tones/prints.

I don't really like flowers, blacks, whites, or all-pastel prints.

I love swapping fat quarters :) My favroites are polka dots and florals. I love anything vintage or that has a vintage feeling. As for colors red, aqua and light greens are my favorites. I could always use black and white prints :)

I am new to fat quarters so most anything would be welcome but my favorites would be small prints in pastel colors. I am hoping to get enough different fat quarters to make my first quilt. Perhaps I should tackle a smaller project first???

I love the more geometric prints. Anything that will translate into 4" squares that I fashion into flower brooches.

SIF, you could always do a small wallhanging first, that was my first project. I just picked out a block pattern I liked, and made good use of some fabrics that I only had small quantities of. Just a simple 2 x 3 block piece with a sleeve for hanging at top.

It turned out well, much to my surprise - lol - so then I jumped in with both feet & made a king-size quilt top for our bed! I'll have to take it to a quilt shop for quilting, but it was SO much fun to piece together! I'm wanting to try a miniature quilt next - another great use for itty-bitty scraps!

We have got some talented folks here!! If you look at different folks' profiles, some people have links to their own websites, or blogs or albums.

Two that come to mind this morning are Shari's wonderful sewing site - SO many great ideas here Shari! "Stash-Bustin'" indeed! All kinds of wonderful stuff here - don't miss this one! I love your coasters & want to try those just as soon as I have a moment!

Keri has a great tutorial on her Flickr album, showing how to make a cool little zipper bag - if you go to her blog from her profile, then you can go over to the tutorial - great job on this, Keri - I love all the detailed instructions you put into it!

I know there are others - those came to mind, since they were ones I was looking at again this morning!

Thank you to all the talented folks who have taken the time to share their ideas & projects online!

Jennifer (piggybaby) your package is on its way. I hope you like it. Sue

@FerretLady - Thanks for your shout out! Also, one thing that you might notice at my blog is that my friend and I are giving away some fabric -- http://www.missyousewmuch.com/ -- to someone who uses the tutorial to make a simple bag. You could probably make four bags with one FQ!

@SIF - Another idea -- make quilted potholders! It's pretty easy, especially if you get some InsulBrite batting/lining for the inside.

And I'm headed off to the post office at lunchtime to send SIF her FQ! :-)

the place i buy fabric from doesn't do fat quarters. the lady ended up just cutting an 18x45 piece for me. anyone else have this problem or is it just me? :P

ferretlady 08/ 5/2007 #

Okyourturn,

I usually don't (or can't) get fat quarters specially cut at the store - I'll just buy a full half yard, and then cut it into 2 FQ's myself (or more often than not, I'll buy more than that half-yard, if it's something I really like! LOL)
