Description:

Due to the OVERWHELMING response to past tea cup swaps, Just My Cup of Tea is back with Tea Cup Swap #6.

Yeah!

Here is the scoop, kids: Send a teacup and saucer and a container of tea to your partner by Friday, September 15.

FAQ's: Q: Is the person that I am sending a package to, the same person I will receive a package from? A: Probably not. Swap Bot assigns partners randomly; Its not a "reciprocal" swap

Q: How do I know who my partner is? A. Once you have signed up, Swap Bot will e-mail you on the Swap Date (in this case August 25) and you can log into Swap Bot to find your partner's name and address

Q: What if I can't send my package on time? A. Please do not sign up for the swap if you are unable to send by September 15. However, I understand that sometimes things (i.e., life) prevents us from being able to meet a deadline occasionally. If this is the case, you MUST e-mail your partner AND ME to let us know the package will be late.

Q: How should I send my package? A. Please see the guidelines below, but in general: 1. wrapped VERY carefully (bubble wrap and tissue paper or newspaper is HIGHLY recommended 2. marked FRAGILE 3. insured 4. via a trackable method 5. with love

Q. I don't live in the U.S. Can I still participate? A. Yup. One world, baby

Q. Can I chose not to have an international partner? A. No, b/c Swap Bot assigns partners randomly, I cannot guarantee that you will receive a partner in your own country. If you are unable to send internationally, I kindly ask that you not sign up for this swap.

Q. If I get an international partner, what do I do about customs? A. Please consult your local post office. They will have you fill out a customs form (please note, there are typically different forms for different weight packages, so be sure you get the right one!). They can also tell you what the best / fastest / most economical way to get your package to your partner. You may also want to consult with DHL, FedEx or UPS to compare rates. (In fact, this is a good idea, international or not!) You are responsible for fulfilling all of the customs and postal requirements for your package.

Q. What if I don't get my package? A. Yikes! Please let me know and I will contact your partner for you. However, please wait AT LEAST three weeks after the Swap Start Date to let me know as your package may be coming from an international sender and the timing of various delivery methods can differ.

Q: How much should I spend? A: This question comes up all the darn time -- the answer is that it is really up to you. This is a hard swap to set a minimum and maximum spending amount on, b/c you may be able to find something incredible at a flea market for $3; whereas someone else may find something cool and new for $20 and be willing to spend that. Here are my guidelines: use your good judgment, don't send anything you would not be totally excited to receive, absolutely no broken or stained cups or cups in poor condition. Don't sign up unless you are willing to put a little love and effort into it.

Q: When is tea cup swap #7? A. Good Lord, people! Stay tuned to Just My Cup of Tea (www.justmycupoftea.typepad.com) for further details. All of the swaps (and occasionally some other fun stuff) are posted there.

Q. Do I need to e-mail you to sign up / express interest? A. I LOVE hearing from people who read Just My Cup of Tea, but you do not need to e-mail me to sign up -- you can do that directly through Swap Bot. I don't keep a list of participants for future swaps either -- you just need to stay tuned to the blog (or subscribe to my e-mail list) for details. You are ALWAYS welcome to e-mail me to say hello. Or talk about shoes. Or both.

Q: It's past the deadline, can I still sign up? A. Sadly, no. I have no way of adding people after the deadline, however stay tuned and you are more than welcome to participate in the next round!

Q: If I didn't participate in past rounds of swapping, can I join this one? A. Oh bien sur! (Yes.) In fact, please do.

Sorry to be a total hard a** but...I am 100% comitted to making sure that EVERY person who signs up for the swap sends AND receives a tea cup. SO.... PRETTY, PRETTY PLEASE: 1. If you don't get your package, let me know and I will work something out. 2. By signing up, you are committing to participate - no delinquent swappers, please! It's bad karma! Slacker swappers will be banned from future swaps, reported to the Swap-bot authorities and publicly shunned!!!!! (just kidding...sort of!) 3. Due to the fact that we have had a few (and I do mean just a few) slacker swappers in the past few swaps, I MUST enforce the following guideline: FIRST, It is highly recommended that you send your package via a trackable method (i.e., delivery confirmation, DHL, FedEx, etc.) If your partner does not receive a package, and you are unable to "prove" that you sent one, you will be excluded from future swaps. SECOND, people who signed up for the tea cup swap in the past, but did not send a package will not be able to participate in this swap (I have a list, I've checked it twice!)

It is extremely important that if you commit to participate in this swap, that you actually do. I can't stress this enough.

Finally, Have fun!! And if you have questions, just drop me an e-mail. (However, if your questions are about how the swapping works on Swap Bot, please take a look at their handy dandy FAQs page first. Its not that I don't LOVE answering questions about Swap Bot...I'm just too darn busy shopping.) But seriously, e-mail me any time. Ask me anything. (Except how babies are made, because I'm still not totally clear on it myself.)

After the swap, I would love to see pictures of what everyone receives, so please send 'em my way if you don't mind: [email protected] I will post them in the photo album at Just My Cup of Tea.

user2880 08/18/2006 #

Whoops, make than "an" absolute daily read!

user2885 08/18/2006 #

I wonder if I'm the only guy in this group. Nonetheless, I find your blog absoloutely fascinating and addictive. I'm also really excited about this swap. Thanks for putting it all together. :)

user2895 08/18/2006 #

Beth Saw an article about this in Orlando. I inherited a collection of antique tea cups and am really looking forward to learning more about tea cups and sharing one with someone who likes them too. thanks for getting this together. I too am excited by this event!

LOLA 08/19/2006 #

Waves and hellos! I am thrilled to be participating in this swap. Can't wait to start looking! Will be going on a roadtrip today. Maybe I will find something interisting and beautiful or gorgeously funky. Yours, Lola

user2911 08/19/2006 #

Read about the swap in the Orlando Sentinel - thought it would be fun to send a sup from the sunshine state! Thanks for coming up with such a fun idea!

susanmarierose 08/19/2006 #

I also read about this in the Orlando paper while visiting my mom and dad. What a fun idea!! Can't wait. Thank you for organizing this for us. Sue

Is it alright to send a cup without a saucer? I found a pretty cup in a thrift store, but there wasn't a saucer with it.

Thanks!

user2952 08/20/2006 #

My mother read the article in the Washington Post and informed me of this. This is my first one and I am really excited. I helped serve a tea for the Shelly A. Marshall Foundation started in Northern Virginia after she died in 9/11 at the Pentagon. I currently live in Virginia Beach, Va and am enrolled in a class called "How to have a tea party".

user2928 08/20/2006 #

Jill S,

I think you should send a matching cup and saucer, just my thoughts........anyone else?

user2310 08/21/2006 #

Jill S,

i would be a little disappointed if i received a teacup with no saucer even if it was extremely pretty so maybe try and find a matching teacup and saucer set and keep the pretty one for yourself!

skenn 08/21/2006 #

I have done many quilt related swaps but never a tea cup swap. I am looking forward to finding out who I get to send to.

user515 08/21/2006 #

I'm exciting to do it!

user3013 08/21/2006 #

As you can see I'm just learning to use the computer.I couldn't wait to go shopping for my tea cup. Now I need to know who the lucky receiver will be.

skenn 08/24/2006 #

Are we limited to only sending the tea cup and saucer and the tea or may we add a few extra goodies? Don't want to get in trouble in my very first swap.

todsahonchik 08/24/2006 #

I think extras are always a bonus. I sent candy with mine.

user3103 08/24/2006 #

Love teacups, love this idea!

Am thinking it might be helpful for each of us to view our swap partner's profile (if they've completed one) once we receive their name. That way we can find out a little bit about their likes, hobbies, etc., which will make choosing a really special teacup that much more fun!

user3128 08/24/2006 #

The Tea Cup Swap article ran in the Loveland paper that I just happened to take along on a camping trip in the mountains. I couldn't wait to log on at home to check it out. There's a fine line between hobby and obsession, and I crossed it a long time ago! This is gonna be awesome! Can't wait to participate!

AliceAtTheBeach 08/25/2006 #

I saw Trading Teacups(with the picture of a beautiful teacup) in The Washington Post and this is a first for me but it sounds like loads of fun. Thanks Alice-At The Beach

I love Victorian Teas and hope this will be a good way to meet individuals that feel the same way I do. What a great idea...thanks. from the land of Oz

user2939 08/27/2006 #

Love the thought of all of the tea-cups flying around the world as expressed by MarianneT24. The idea made me laugh out loud. In my opinion, the tea cup swap has already been a success; what a whimisical idea. Sorry to have missed out on the other 5 swaps but thrilled to be involved in swap #6. Thanks, from the land of Oz

user554 08/29/2006 #

Hi all. I received a message from the person who has my name for this swap, but they didn't leave their name or email address so I had no way of replying or contacting them. So, to my partner, I am sorry I couldn't reply to your message, but to answer your question... it is okay to send it to the address listed, I will be able to retrieve the package even after I move. Thank you for checking.

Ciao-

Melanie B.

user515 08/29/2006 #

246 people! It's amazing! Please upload the pics when your pkg 'll arrive!

user3294 08/31/2006 #

Wow am I disappointed. I thought I still had time to register for the tea cup swap. I found this article in the Kansas City, Mo. newspaper, when I was helping my son and his wife move. My excuse for being late. Well school started and I'm a bus driver and attending a wedding for my niece. Besides were remodeling our house and time just slipped by. Can I still do the swap. Help! A tea cup lover in Nebraska. Joanie Treadway

How do I subscribe to your email list? IdaS

skenn 09/ 8/2006 #

Oh boy, oh my, yippee!!!!!!!!!! (happy dance here). My tea cup and other goodies came today. I LOVE EVERYTHING! Linda E. from Wisconsin did a fantastic job.

OK, once we do this, are we on the notification list for the next swap? This was sooooo much fun, not only the shopping for someone else, but getting goodies in the mail.

Sherri K.

user2848 09/11/2006 #

I found the PERFECT teacup for my beloved tea--it's got an attached saucer of sorts...any comments/feedbacks? I want very much to showcase the tea AND the cup!

sara0811 09/13/2006 #

I just got a WONDERFUL package from Shelley M. in Maine. Just wanted to let her know it arrived safely, though of course I will send out a thank you note in snail mail. It was a very thoughtful package and made my day. Isn't this fun!!

retaffdwife 09/14/2006 #

Today I received a very elegant teacup and saucer from Mary in MI, I truly love the tea as well, just a quick note it arrived and a proper thank you is on it's way. This was so much fun.

user3127 09/15/2006 #

My first tea cup swap. This is great fun!!!! I received my cup today from Virginia, a smashing cobolt blue with flowers and a butterfly. It arrived just in time for my high tea next week. Will we notified by email for the next swap? I found out about the swap in the Missoula Montana newspaper when traveling and I live in Oregon......small world. Let's do this again. Sally

Zmrzlina 09/15/2006 #

I received the most wonderful cup and tea today from Mya in Virginia. The tea is amazing... flowers that bloom in the hot water. And the cup is a healthy sized clear glass cup/saucer combination that is going to be perfect for the tea since each "flower" makes 2-3 cups of tea. I'll take a photo later and post it. Thank you Mya!

user2877 09/17/2006 #

Hello all- I was checking the teacup site and was noticing that alot of the people that signed up for this swap had not yet appeared to have sent off there tea cups to there tea cup partners. Now maybe we all are busy, but it would be nice if there has been an oversite, and you did not have a chance to go back into the site to check off where it says if you have sent off your package by the date specified, than we all need to do so and follow the rules of the swap. It appears as of today (9-17-06) that 51 people have not checked off the box that says that they have sent out there packages to there eagerly awaiting swap partners. If they have already been notified of the packages being sent late, so be it, but to me that just seems like a lot of people who have not followed up and followed thru. Just food for thought. Hope everyone does get there lovely cup and teas in the mail soon, as I am anxiously awaiting to recieve mine in the mail . I thought the deadline for them to be sent out was on 9-15-06. I did sent my cup out on time and I know that the person who recieves it will enjoy it for many years to come.

user2901 09/18/2006 #

Please give a little grace to those who are participating in the swap for the first time; I am one who did send out the teacup on time but was not aware that I needed to check "sent" on the website! I am not that efficient with email and do not read mine everyday but now I am "in the loop" and would hate to be banned from participating in future swaps because of a clerical error. Thanks! I loved my cup from my swap partner in Windmere, FL! I have something similar from the same china co. and do collect old cups as well. This was fun and I have other tea lovers that are interested in participating next time!

user2850 09/18/2006 #

I am still waiting for my first Swap to arrive. I sent my cup off and I have already received a nice Thank-you note! I can't wait to recieve my tea cup!!!

barbie 09/18/2006 #

Still waiting for mine as well. I do know that my cup was received and I am hoping my sender has just sent it late.

user2880 09/19/2006 #

I received my package yesterday from Michelle P. and couldn't be happier. She really made my first swap special. Michelle sent a beautiful vintage floral cup and saucer in pinks and reds, a box of different herbal teas and even included a box of prettily wrapped tea biscuits. Really charming. Yes, I did send a thank you note via snail mail but wanted to let everyone know what a great swap partner she is. Thank you Michelle!

ninethreeo 09/19/2006 #

Just received my tea cup from maryjanesattic and it's as perfect as perfect can be! The extras she sent were truly wonderful: teabags, sweeties, japanese stationery (an obsession of mine!) and oh my goodness, the most beautiful skein of merino wool in pale blue and lilac. It feels like my birthday, which actually it was two days ago!, so it feels like my birthday AGAIN. Thanks so so much mja!

user2877 09/20/2006 #

Recieved the most beautiful cup and saucer from Ashly Stohl in California. She also sent a lovely place mat, a nice note and also a generous box of black tea, which I have not tried before, and it is from London. The teacup is the perfect size and I will treasure it forever,as this was my very first teacup swap, and you can only be first once. So I want to send a special thank you to Ashly and let her know that I will think of her each and everytime I sit down for tea with "My" special tea cup just for me. A great swap partner and thoughful. The package was wrapped with extra care and love. Thank you again!!!

user2479 09/20/2006 #

I"m still waiting for mine too - is anyone else? The one I sent has been safely received though, which is good!

charlottenc 09/21/2006 #

Flibberty, you're not the only one waiting. I received a lovely handmade "thank you" card from the person I sent a teacup. The person supposed to send one to me emailed that she has been hit by a bus!! Doesn't sound too promising re a teacup, does it? Hope everyone will join me in saying a prayer for her speedy recovery. To tell the truth, the best part of this swap for me has already happened - got to send a little something to someone, and she liked it!

user2668 09/21/2006 #

Hi:

I am waiting for my tea cup.

user2965 09/21/2006 #

Received my teacup and it was beautiful, complete with a few teabags and a lovely gold spoon. This was such fin; I hope to do this again!

user2978 09/21/2006 #

It has been marked by my name "sent" for several weeks now and I have yet to receive my teacup. I sent my teacup off to the Netherlands and my gal has already sent a thank you to let me know it arrived safely! Oh where, oh where has my teacup gone!

user2479 09/22/2006 #

I've contacted my swap partner through the Swap-bot form today, just to ask her to check with the mail or the courier service about when it was delivered, as it's marked 'sent'. So hopefully will hear back from her soon! Suggest anyone else who's waiting checks in with their partner to see what's happened....

jude 09/22/2006 #

I sent mine via Priority Mail and delivery confirmation. The USPS site says it was successfully delivered on the 19th, but no response yet from partner, though we emailed before the swap when I wanted to check in on her preferences. Always nervewracking waiting for word if a package arrived.

barbie 09/22/2006 #

YIPPEE!! Mine arrived today and it is beautiful:) It has lots of green in it and my son was very excited because at school they are the color green. I had to unfortunantly explain that it wasn't going to school with him so we took a picture of it and he could take that to school. Lucky to have digital photography and get quick picture development!! thanks nicole for a really nice tea cup and plate:):)

charlottenc 09/23/2006 #

Mine came! And my partner did a wonderful job, finding a lovely toile pattern teapot with cup underneath. It's so neat! I love it! Plus a nice assortment of little teas. Very nice, considering my swap partner had just been in a terrible accident. So glad she's ok. And I would say hers was a trememdous effort to get the items to me. I'm very grateful and pleased!

user2850 09/23/2006 #

I am still waiting. I have heard nothing from my partner. I fulfilled my obligations by sending a beautiful cup with goodies. My husband thinks I've been scammed!!

user2844 09/24/2006 #

I am so disappointed. I got a mug! I hate to complain..really I do...but I was so looking forward to a tea cup. I have lots of mugs since I am a teacher and that seems to be a favorite gift to give to teachers. I so enjoyed shopping and sending off my tea cup and adding some extra goodies to my swap-partner. I spent time and love fixing it all up. I wish that I had been treated in kind.

sara0811 09/25/2006 #

I sent mine ages ago, but never heard from my partner about whether she got it, and if she liked it. I emailed her twice, but no response. It's too bad, but I hope she did like it. My daughter helped me pick it out and we sent some local goodies as well.Janice, if you are reading this, please let me know if it arrived safely.

user2541 09/25/2006 #

No tea cup for Dennis's Mommy :( This is my third swap=bot swap and second time that I haven't recd anything from my "upstream" partner. Sorry to have to say it, but swap-bot has sung its swan song for me.

user2850 09/25/2006 #

Tea Cup Swap #6 and Hot Chocolate and Book Swap. These are the two swaps signed up for and have sent items and have received NOTHING in return. I am done with swap-bot. New Swappers......buyer beware!!!!!!!!!!!

Zmrzlina 09/26/2006 #

I've signed up for about 20 swaps, and have about 4 or 5 that I didn't receive anything at all from. I think it is just a matter of attitude. I take the attitude that I am signing up to send something and if I get something in return, all the better. Life has a way of turning things upside-down for some folk and I think it is nice to be able to be on the turning right-side up end as often as possible. My life has been upside-down more often than not and doing nice things for no other reason that it is nice to do so helps keep me in balance.

New swappers, the gift is in the giving.

user2850 09/26/2006 #

The gift is in the giving if it's a wedding gift, birthday gift, Xmas etc..... NOT WHEN YOU SIGN UP FOR A SWAP!!! In the description above in The SWAP details it says send a Tea Cup to your partner and you shall receive a Tea Cup. These are the instructions posted. If you can't send because you can't afford it ...don't sign up! New Swappers.......GOOD LUCK. Have Patience! And don't expect Anything!!! Just spend your money on a beautiful tea cup and keep for yourself!

user3294 09/26/2006 #

Hey Miss Merry; please e-mail me. I have a sister-in-law in Lake Havasua, Az. What a neat place. I'd love to swap a tea cup, and correspond with you. Joanie Treadway from Ne

charlottenc 09/29/2006 #

Anyone know how to get a picture on the teacup gallery? I sent it to the person listed above, but it hasn't been uploaded. Just wanted to share what I got from my person with everyone. nonparieldolls

charlottenc 09/29/2006 #

Oops, never mind! I think I got it!

HHC 09/29/2006 #

I have not received my tea cup... which is VERY disappointing for my first Swapbot swap!!! I did receive a lovely thank you letter two weeks ago from Barbara in MN, who received the tea cup, tea and goodies I sent.

user2956 09/30/2006 #

I received a really disapointing (cheap, generic) tea-cup which was mailed 9/20/06, well after the must-send-by date. I suspect the sender might have waited until she'd received hers and then sent it on to me. But the sentiment above that the fun is in the giving got it right, I had a blast hunting for the perfect tea-cup and already have a beauty for the next swap. Thanks for the fun experience!

HHC 10/ 1/2006 #

I did have fun searching out the right cup and goodies to match, but still feel a tiny bit cheated. I really thought the idea of a swap was to swap, not just give. If you're signing up for a swap (or making any other "agreement" in life) you should meet your commitment. It's truly bad form to do otherwise. Fiddle-dee-dee! I'll just remember that what goes around comes around; what you give is what you receive, and everyone receives their just rewards (or lack thereof)in the end. :o)

user2668 10/ 2/2006 #

I recieve my Tea Cup Swap, is so beautiful and WHITE my favor color, thank you very much for the delicious cookies and Tea I LOVE MANGOS Romely did you read minds?.

This swap was a lot of fun.

Thank You, Again.

user2850 10/ 3/2006 #

SCAM-BOT..............THANKS FOR NOTHING!!!!

user2310 10/ 3/2006 #

I sent my teacup and saucer over a month ago and also an email about a week ago to my swap partner to check if she had received the parcel. No response whatsoever. I'm posting all the way from Australia but still all my other parcels sent after this one have been received. It's a little disappointing that I went to all the effort of finding a vintage teaset and making a lovely parcel and getting no response. oh well... okay enough ranting from me!

user3103 10/ 4/2006 #

I still haven't received my teacup, but the gift is indeed in the giving. The person I sent a teacup to (waving to Lola!)called me on the telephone to thank me, and we had the most wonderful chat.

I'm still hoping for a parcel, but if one doesn't arrive, it's really not a big deal.

user2903 10/ 4/2006 #

Sent mine a month ago, have emailed my receiver twice - the first when I posted it and the second yesterday since I hven't heard anything from her either time, I've no idea whether she received it or not - or maybe she was so disappointed she doesn't want to write to me :(

I spent ages putting together the package so I hope it is not that.

No teacup in my mail .. ah well, it was fun all the same.

Grinch 10/ 5/2006 #

grinch 10/4/2006 I have not received my teacup yet, but am so glad Adrienne enjoyed my package. Thanks for the nice email

Uniquehorn 10/ 6/2006 #

I always join because I want to send, not because I want to receive. So far I received something back almost every time, which is a real surprise, because I don't expect it at all.

It is a real pleasure to look out for nice things and to imagine how the receiver will react. This is a real gift to me, which makes me happy. :)

AliceAtTheBeach 10/11/2006 #

I received a beautiful teacup from Jude. It is a beautiful blue, it shines and glitters which I love. Jude you a great swap partner and this was lots of fun. I can only hope my next partner will be as thoughtful and prompt as you are.

user2837 10/12/2006 #

Aloha - I tried to leave an e-thanx on Sat 10/7 when I rec'd the beautiful teacup & saucer & a nice selection of tea bags from VA but couldn't get into the site. This is the first time I've done one of these - it was fun. I saw the info in the 8/17 Wash Post while visiting family in the DC area, so it's interesting that the person who got me lives in VA. :-) I also have not heard from the lady in FL to whom I sent a package - hope she rec'd it OK. Looking forward to the next one - I've started scouting out teacups for future swaps.

I receivd a lovely cup and saucer from my pal very promptly - unusual to and I have had fun using it especially with herbal tea. I also know yhat Victoria who I sent to got hers. Really enjoyed the swap and have found another set for next time.

What is the protocol for swappers who did not receive a teacup? I sent and received a teacup but I know there are a few swappers who got stiffed. I felt so badly for TeaLoverDenise and others like her who happily and generously honored their swaps but in turn got nothing. What happens to people who do not honor their swaps? How can we participate in swap bot and protect oursselves at the same time from bogus partners?

The first advantage of wearing a suit when playing tens is that it can give you a sense of confidence and professionalism. When you feel confident and professional, you are more likely to make good decisions and stay focused on the game. This can be especially important in a game like tens, where strategy and focus are key. https://drtensunit.com/best-tens-unit-for-sciatica/
