Sewing tips: What is selvage, bias, and grain?

This woman posts lots of helpful things. I thought if you were just trying out sewing, this might be most helpful.

Quilts have so many different elements to be able to complete them. This is a tutorial on binding the edges but I don't think that it is the only way to do it.

This was just too cool not to share. I recommend reading her if you have time. She has so many gems in her blog. I just loved this idea, especially for swap-bot when you want to make your package a little more special.

I like this blog for the often random but completely fleshed out ideas it gives. I'm only posting one but the whole blog is worth exploring. This looks like it would be fun to send to another swap-botter. These are so cute!

One Pretty Thing is how I find lots of the things that I aspire to make. She posts two or three "round-ups" nearly every day that can be anything from crafts to knitting to quilting to furniture to weddings. AND! She has a search engine so you can search for seasonal or holiday crafts or just plain quilts.

This woman is based out of Australia. I'm only posting one of her embroidery stitch how-to posts. But at the bottom she has links to all the rest. I really like these.

I really like the idea of recycle crafts so this is a link to a scarf made out of t-shirts you can't wear anymore but still love. (Though the author went to the thrift store and picked some out.)

This site is a little more hit or miss for me. When she does something wonderful though, it really is wonderful. I thought you might be able to turn this into a fantastic handmade postcard for a swap.

Did you say the Badbirds blog? She posts a free pattern once a month. This is her Platypus pattern

Loonstruck 03/ 2/2011 #

There are rarely embroidery patterns on this blog but there are some fabulous cross stitch patterns. Behold the Pretty Pink Hearts !

Loonstruck 03/ 2/2011 #

One Pretty Thing does an Embroidery Roundup every now and again. If you type embroidery into her search box, you'll get a fair amount.

Loonstruck 03/ 2/2011 #

Ah ha! Badbirds made a post on how to find embroidery patterns!
