Description:

The rule on this one seems pretty obvious - you must use gesso in some way. You can use it as a base, as a texture element, to cover something up, however you'd like!

One ATC to one partner.

ATC must have an element that is entirely originally made by you. This could be hand-drawn, hand-painted, sewn, or a mixed media piece involving different papers, ephemera, AND paint/inks. Scrapbook style (anything that is made with mostly scrapbooking materials (prefabricated stickers, embellishments, papers that have not been altered artistically and looks as if it would be at home in a scrapbook.) ATCs that do not have an original art element as described above) is not permitted in this swap.

any leads on how to be creative with gesso? I've used it for painting over boxboard but that doesn't feel particularly creative...

You can use to textureize - lay down some gesso and then imprint/stamp into it. You can put a stencil down and gesson over it.

You can scratch into it with things to create texture and then paint on top of it.

You can use it to mask something - a light coat to make the piece or part of the piece look hazy.

Then you can paint on top of it (or not!)

Here is a good idea for gesso use - I bought this download after seeing this clip:

Thanks! Even that little bit is more creative than what I've been doing.

[and i've been saying the word differently in my head all this times - guess-o. Julie says jess-o....]

and I just discovered that if you use thick gesso, and then dry the boxboard at an angle (like propped up against the gesso bottle), it runs and adds even more interest...
