I've been away for this site for a while and still am making up for the swaps I haven't sent out more than a year ago. I've added my actions on my profile and I hope that everyone is willing to give me a 2nd chance...
There's noting I hate more then having to write something about myself, I hope I'm not the only one that feels this way. Been looking for some inspiration in other profiles and as I still have half an hour at work with nothing to do so I'm going to give it a chance. I'm Petra, 37 from Belgium. I live in the North part of the country, also known as Flanders with as a result that Dutch is my mother tongue. In the South of Belgium they speak French, I also understand that but my English is much better... Some of my interests include reading, music, pen palling, travelling, movies, history, getting to know people and other cultures and more things like that. I'm going to give more details below. As I see this profile thing as a work in progress, please let me know if something is missing...
Well, I love to read mystery books like good old Agatha Christie. Lately I've been reading a lot of Scandinavian writers like Henning Mankell, Anna Holt and Liza Marklund. But I also love Elisabeth George, Robert Goddard and Patrica Cornwell to name a few. I also love historical (adventure) novels like those from Wilbert Smith and I’ve read the Clan of the cave bears by JM Auel. In fact, I always love to discover new books and new writers... Some other writers I like are Milan Kundera and Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Also read all the Harry Potter books and I knew how Lord of the Rings would end as I read the book years before the movie came out. Reread it several times and also enjoyed The Hobbit, which had much more humour in it…
Here things are a bit more complicated. My music taste goes from opera to metal and more or less everything that's in between except dance and rap music. I went to a metal festival this summer and to my own surprise totally enjoyed it. It was a 3-day festival, I only wanted to go the first day to see Aerosmith but ended up going the whole weekend as it was cheaper. So classical speaking some of my favourite composers are Handel, Mozart, Verdi, Beethoven, Chopin and list. More popular I tend to go to the more indy and rock music: U2, Muse, Placebo, The White Stripes, Kaiser Chiefs, Belgian bands like Deus and Soulwax and some singer/songwriter stuff like Jeff Buckley, Tom Robinson Neil Young. One of my favourite albums is Closing Time by Tom Waits.
My all time favourite is without any doubt The Shawshank Redemption with Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman. Also very good is V for Vendetta. Also loved the Queen, Helen Mirren was amazing. Seen the 3 Pirates movies, loved the 2nd the least. I also like the more indy movies like Hard Candy or more recently Infamous. Best ones recently I've seen the last couple of months were the Fall and Doubt. And of course Lord of the Rings are a must see... I’m not that crazy about action movies or horror ones. The last horror movie I saw was Isolation and I left the theatre laughing, I found the creature just funny, not scary. I like movies with a twist, like Lucky Number Slevin… Even though I don't like horror, I like gost storries like The Others. I thinks there has to be something there that makes me believe in the story. Ghost does, monster apparently not and also not the extreemly heroic heroes. In fact, if I re-write this section next week, maybe some other movies will pop up. Those I’ve mentioned came to mind first…
That’s easy, I don’t have a tv, but I have 9 seasons of the Simpsons. I've recently seen Damages on DVD and loved it. Same with Desperate Housewives. Whenever I go babysitting, I watch Grey's Anatomy and just started the 3the season... For me, tv kills your own fantasy, I prefer reading above watching tv
Grey, yellow; light blue, soft green, violet, scarlet, all soft colours
Coffee! I guess I’m one of the few people in the world that can’t stand coffee. I never ever drink it or eat something with a coffee taste! Vanilla. I know that lots of people love it, but I’m not one of them… Also, please don’t send me any chocolate. Belgium is known for it’s chocolate, those from abroad taste awful compared to what we have here. And I don’t care all that much about chocolates anyway I’m also not religious, so please don’t send me anything related to that. I respect people who do believe, I can only hope that they respect the fact that I don’t… Also, I’m not really a crafty person, I think I lack the patience for that. So please don’t send me any deco or other craft stuff. Even though I’m sometimes tempted, I hardly finish anything in the crafting department. My allergy, as it’s not only for trees and grasses and things like that, but also food like apples, peaches and nuts
Tea, as I don’t drink coffee, I’m a real tea person Bath foam, nothing beats a nice and relaxing bath Long and chatty letters, so also some nice stationary A4 size Postcards as I collect them. I prefer landscapes but in general all cards are welcome, as long as they aren’t free, commercial once or religious once. I also collect stamps Books or magazines, they can be in English, Dutch or French I also like taking photo’s. Even though I have a compact camera, I get a lot of compliment for my travel pics. The one on here I took myself, kind of a lucky shot, never expected that it would turn out like this I have 3 cats, which I love most of the time except when they bring in a dead mouse (rather often) or a bird (hardly ever). As they are outside cats (have to sleep inside though) they don’t need any toys but they love candy…

Hey there - Just wondering if you rec'd my postcard for 'For Postcard Lovers #8'? If not, please let me know + I'll re-send. Thanks :)
Dear Petra, Thanks so much for being my angel in postcard # 6. You recommended Diana Gabaldon and it's my best friends favourite series too, so I guess fate is telling me to read that next. I love Milan Kundera and Agatha Christie too, so I definitely think we would like the same books. Thanks again, it was a lovely surprise to find a postcard from Brussels in my letterbox after a long day at work, Cheers, Kim xoxo
What sort of program do you use for the CD's and case inserts? I'd love to know... maybe then I wouldn't have plain, boring CDs anymore! Grrr!
