March 2018: Life was hectic, and I took a break from swap-bot. I’m finally able to sign up for some swaps and am looking forward to getting involved with this community again.
I live and work in New York City with my husband. I love the variety of the city and take advantage of it by visiting various neighborhoods, shopping, going to restaurants and performances. Although I do love the activity of the city, one of my passions is to spend time gardening. It helps that I've got a green thumb. And that's how I got my swap-bot ID ;-)
I discovered swap-bot by picking up a swap-bot postcard at the "Etsy NY Handmade Cavalcade" at the Chelsea Market in Manhattan in Dec 2014.
If you don't get something from me, email me before rating so I can figure out what happened. And if you're running late, no worries. Just message me to give me a heads up.
POSTCARDS!!! Ever since I was a kid, I’ve loved to send and receive them. It really brightens my day to receive one in the mail. And it's also why I originally joined swap-bot. I like all kinds, but prefer PC with only one picture (not a collage of smaller photos). I'm also on postcrossing.com.
My favorite crafts are knitting, crochet, cross-stitch and needlepoint. Besides making a few things for myself, I do charity knitting too and have donated hats, scarves, lapgans for seniors and blankets for animal shelters. I also always have at least one cross-stitch project going - I especially like to bring one of these projects with me when I travel. A favorite to make are Santa ornaments to hang on my Christmas tree.
I have swap-bot to thank for encouraging me to dabble in paper crafts. Some of the swaps have been a lot of fun and tolerant of beginners. I'm not sure why I didn't get into it sooner. I've always loved stationary, pens, stickers, stamps, postcards, etc.
I tend towards using brighter and vibrant colors. I enjoy the different textures of various yarns, threads, fabrics and paper.
I like so many things! It's so hard for me to stick to just one thing.
Fiddle. A new addition to my interests! In May 2018 I signed up for a beginning fiddle group class. I played the flute from grades 6-12 and really loved it. Since I've always loved the sound of a violin, I wanted to see if I could learn to play a few fiddle tunes. I forgot how slow it can be in the beginning. I'm still working on Mary had a Little Lamb and Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star. Oh my!
Gardening. Flowers are my favorite. I also grow some veggies and herbs.
Reading. I favor non-fiction, with some occasional historical fiction. I'm not into mystery, horror or violent stories. Lately, I've been reading about alternative healing and health as well as books and articles on my favorite topics.
Traveling. I really enjoy exploring new places. Sometimes, it could be as simple as visiting a different neighborhood in my city. Other times, it's good to go away and relax. The beach does wonders to soothe me.
Riding my bicycle. It's great to explore new areas while getting some exercise. I'm trying to get into the habit of biking to work once in awhile. NYC has done a great job with marking bike lanes on roads, so it's time to take advantage of them.
Astrology. I read various magazines, books, articles, web pages, etc. Every now and then I'll go to a lecture or take a class.
Genealogy. It's like a treasure hunt looking for various bits of information. If you've done any research on the Eastern Kresy area of Poland / Western Polessia area of Belarus, I'd love to hear from you. I'm always looking for good info about that part of the world.
Folk traditions. This is a fairly new interest. I like learning about celebrations and different ways of doing things. And this ties in nicely with my fiddle classes :-)
I'm picking up quite a few interesting things to try from other Swap-bot members! This is my list of things to check out:
