NOTE: To those who I sent a p/c to for the 090909 POSTCARD SWAP------> Please know that I sent these out the morning of 9 Sep 09. I clicked the "SENT MY ITEMS" button the next day, but they p/cs WERE SENT ON TIME! And PM me with your guesses on the painting and artist! Grins, Sailor!
knitting hats
sewing accessories and wall hangings, not clothes
making postcards out of paper and fabric
bookbinding
papermaking
ATCs
zines!
found items turned into art
cooking curries and stews and other dishes that involve lots of random ingredients thrown in together with careful consideration
If I could invest in the Postal Service, I would.
I live about 5 miles from the US Postal Museum and finally visited for the first time in November 2008.
I am also on sendsomething.net (sailorH) and postcrossing.com (SailorH). Membership here seems like a natural progression!
These are things I like:
*small details
* ALL TYPES of insects * synchronized swimming
* public transportation
* outdoor and public and guerilla art
* physiology and anatomy (charts of bodies and such)
* gender bending feats
* travel ephemera
* sewing with paper and fabric
* cooking Indian food, eating Ethiopian food (the latter bit is where my username comes from)
* learning about international social movements
* hearing creation stories
* learning about cultural norms and practices
Bluegrass/ new grass (think Nickel Creek and Sam Bush), alt country, classic blues and jazz, FOLK FOLK FOLK (I know that's a large label), music that might play on WWOZ out of New Orleans, Louisiana or on WNCW out of Asheville, North Carolina. I also love Sleater-Kinney and Hope for agoldensummer, both bands composed of strong, creative people who like to experiment with instruments and have great musicianship.
I learned what the word "shorty" means in mid-2008, so that should tell you how much Top 40 pop stuff I listen to.
I appreciate mixed tapes/CDs!
Corina, Corina. The Little Princess (the newer version) because it takes place in a boarding school/orphanage and the India scenes/magical room transformation fascinate me. Anything that allows me to travel from a sofa! BARAKA. And I imagine that I would like What The BLEEP Do We Know because science touching on the Divine thrills me.
Things that are not currently serving me:
*dust bunnies
*broken pieces of plastic
* COUNTRY CRAFTS :(> (things that look like they may have come from the sales bin at WalMart
*Laffy Taffy and other candy that tastes like plastic
*angsty poetry
*jewelry (I like to be free of it. Yep, all of it!)
* P A S T E L S
thunderstorms
watching ants and other creatures
art museums
stories
stories enclosed in letters
creative non-fiction (yep, more stories!)
creative non-fiction that weaves in science!!!!
the intersection of food and religion/culture
postage stamps with mentions of science, women, or social movements
stars
atoms
again, public transportation
watching people who are wild about their craft demonstrate their skills (something I soak up at Animal Fiber Festivals and while in Appalachia)
brown permanent markers, thick or thin lines
