About Me

I am married with two adorable boys. Joshua is 3 years old and Jacob is 11 months old. My husband and kids and I live in Urbanna, VA which is on the East coast (very close to water). I've always been an arts and crafts enthusiast. My mom majored in art so I think that's where I get my creativity, I've grown up around it.

About Swap-Bot... I rate on creativity and if you take the time to read my profile. I DON'T give hearts just because you've included some extras. Also, I pledge to rate anything I receive within 48 hours of receiving the package.

Favorite Crafts

I'm kind of a jack-of-all-trades. I love trying new kinds of arts and crafts. If I see something that looks interesting I give it a whirl... sometimes I stick with it sometimes I don't. My passion right now is painting on buttons then sewing them onto canvas totes which I make also.

I also do photography, beading, knitting, painting, embroidery, quilting, drawing, jewelry making, journaling, mosaics and decoupage.

Other things about me

  • I LOVE cats.
  • I love buttons, all kinds of buttons. Vintage buttons, glass buttons, buttons with paintings or motifs on them, handmade fabric covered buttons (ok the last one is my very favorite!)

  • I also like large solid color buttons because I love painting my own designs on them.

  • I like stripes, polka dots and PAISLEY designs.
  • I like all shades of pink together (pink is my favorite color).
  • I like blue and white together.
  • I like earth tones together (beiges and browns) together.
  • I like blue and green together.
  • I love MERMAIDS.
  • I like flower designs.
  • My favorite flower is the black-eyed susan.
  • I'm fascinated with the Amish lifestyle and make yearly pilgrimages to Lancaster, PA.
  • The only thing I collect is crafting materials... at the moment it's fabric, buttons and ribbon.
  • I love writing pens, any kind, any color, the more whimsical the better.
  • I absolutely LOVE anything handmade. I'm obsessed with ATC's! I have so many ideas I can't get to my supplies fast enough. I try to make my ATC's like none other in your collection. I may use duck tape, aluminum foil, buttons, ribbon, foam board, fabric, seashells and usually always paint.

  • I usually sign up for "free themed ATC's" because I love reading people's profiles and then creating a one-of-a-kind ATC specifically for them.

Favorite Books

There are two authors I like: Beverly Lewis and Wanda Brunstetter. They both write stories about the Amish community (fiction).

Favorite Movies

Footloose (love the music) and Pretty Woman (Julia Roberts rocks!)

Favorite Music

I attended high school in the 80's so most of what I listen to came from that time period. I also like classical music. I'm obsessed with talk radio especially podcasts... Sister Diane you rock! (Check out her podcast at Craftypod)

Wishlist and no-no's

LIKES: * fabric and felt (any size, any shape, any color).

  • buttons, buttons and more buttons... any kind - new, old, fabric covered, hand made shrinky dink buttons. I also would like large solid colored buttons because my new endeavor is painting on buttons.

  • Anything with a cat on it.

  • Ribbon (striped, polka dot, plain, ribbon with any kind of design on it).

  • Pens, markers, fun color sharpies.

  • Acrylic paint and brushes. Used beat up brushes are fine, if they are still useable I can use them. (My mom calls these scruffy brushes. When she can no longer paint with hers she gives them to me).

DISLIKES: * stickers * Also please DO NOT SEND ME SCRAPBOOKING PAPER. I know it fits very easily into an envelope with an ATC but I have no use for paper. Please save it for someone that would appreciate it. I would rather have a 2 1/2" X 3 1/2" piece of fabric than paper.

What inspires me

Anything and everything! Once the creative juices get flowing there is no telling what I'll come up with.

Things I want to try

I'm just completing my first inchie so if anyone has an extra inchie just laying around your house that you want to throw into my package that would be great as I'm extremely new to inchies.

Other things I would like to try: altered art, altered books, dichroic glass/glass fusing, pottery/ceramics, stained glass, paper quilling.

How I learned about Swap-bot

I got an iPod for Christmas and thought I'd just listen to music... then the podcast world was opened up to me and WOW! I am absolutely hooked on Craftypod with Sister Diane, she rocks! In episode #45 she interviewed Rachel Johnson about Swap-bot and the rest is history.

Comment: Kimberly, I've given you a heart for that lovely card you sent, with details on how you came to decide on the ATC design. Really lovely to read how another person does theirs. And I especially love fabric ATCs. Thank you very much. :)

Comment: Thank you for my colorful card, It makes me want to sing in the rain. lol and I love the note cards, You take wonderful pictures, I think I'll have to keep the cards for me, I love sunflowers and butterflies!!!! Happy swapping, Connie
Response: Thanks for the heart! I take so many pictures that sometimes I have a hard time deciding on which one to make into a notecard. Then other times I read someones profile and immediately know which photos I'm going to use... like yours. I chased that butterfly around for what seemed like hours! (I took the photo about 3 years ago).

Comment: I got the biggest kick out of your matching notecard and ATC! It's all the more special because of the story about Lefty....and I'm especially sympathetic to "handicapped" animals. Lefty reminds me a lot of one of my favorite foster dogs, Jack (as in "One Eyed Jack"). Thanks so much for sharing!

Comment: Wow! What a lovely, fun, thoughtful package! Your ATC's both turned out great and I'm thrilled that you sent them both! DD was excited about the TP for her binder. Your photo cards are wonderful, I've been taking photos for years with that in mind, just haven't ever had photos printed from the images yet LOL. And the Kool-Aid is awesome, ours is almost all gone, it's strictly rationed these days LOL. Thanks a bunch, wish I could rate higher!

Comment: Kimberly, Yours was the first ATC I received in this swap. I absolutely loved it and appreciated your note about not wanting to give it away. It is one of the most interesting and unusual ATCs in my collection - I love the big green gems! Thank you for parting with it. Judy
Response: Thank you so much for such a positive response. When I use the foamboard I'm not sure how people are going to accept it because I have to cut it a little smaller to fit into a sleeve but they are so much fun to do! And yes yours was one of my first ATC's Iv'e ever made.

Comment: Thank you for the really great and unique buttons. I love the purple and lavender ribbons. My mom died 8 years ago and I am making something for my sisters for mothers day and lavender was her favorite color so these will go there.
Response: That's so sweet. I think lavender is my least favorite color so I'm glad the items will be put to good use (they were just taking up room here). Thanks for the heart, happy swapping!

Response: That's so funny! I didn't even read the cities on the paper I used... I guess you figured out it wasn't a real map. Thanks for the heart.
