I am a 42-year-old first time parent of a baby boy whom we adopted from Ethiopia in September 08. My pastimes include imagining my family's future, trying to make society more just, being brave, writing, gazing into nature, kissing my beloved, reading, farm work, laughing, chores, arts, girlfriends.

I am an art-lover, poet, community volunteer, part-time pig farmer, professional fund-raiser for not-for-profit organizations, post-lesbian feminist and puck. I try to live naturally & simply but I have many bad habits rooted in consumption of petroleum. After the apocalypse I will miss my plastics.

Married, live in a rural mountainous area of New York State close to the Canadian border. Our African-American son will grow up in the Adirondacks on a homestead that was first farmed in the 1830s; we bought it just a few years ago.

In addition to our professional careers, Beloved and I run a small family farm that is organic in all but certification. We raise chigs & pickens.

Any. Urban soundscapes, rural symphonies. Favorite music includes anything Miles Davis, Asian underground, classical, folk, ancient, bluegrass, women's voices. I have an iPod and I use it hard. Right now I am listening to Spam Allstars.

The internet is my television. Don't have tv & rarely watch movies. I like postcrossing, sendsomething.net, neatorama, newyorksocialdiary, cityfile.com, metafilter, facebook.

Sketching, drawing, mixed words & drawings, collage, doodling, poetry (is that a craft?), decoupage, assemblages.

Childhood skills I am picking up again: crochet, hand-sewing, machine sewing (1920s Singer).

Colors I love: red, black, silver, green -- jewel tones, vibrant colors.
