I love getting snail mail! I'm very active on Postcrossing, and when I got a postcard telling me about swap-bot, I joined as fast as I literally could! About me--I've been married 28 years to my husband Tony, and I have 3 kids, boys ages 26 and 23 and a daughter age 16. My daughter is severely autistic and the joy of my life. Her needs keep me from travelling or even getting out much, so mail is my lifeline. My hobbies are postcard sending (I usually send out 5 or 6 every day), flower gardening, reading (I read a book a day usually) and inexpert knitting and crocheting and crafting in general. I will apologize in advance for my poor handwriting. I did grow up back in the days when handwriting was taught in school---every day for many years! But somehow, it never took for me. I've even tried doing cursive exercises a lot as an adult---nope, no better! I type most everything, but not cards and postcards and the like, so you get treated to my special brand of writing!
I love older country music, Broadway tunes, classic rock and most of all almost all Christmas music! I grew up listening to my parents play a lot of Big Band, and I like that too. My mother is a church organist so I like a lot of hymns. My sons are into heavy metal, so I hear that a lot, whether I like it or not! As our only Christmas and birthday presents to each other, my husband and I give each other a Sirius Radio subscription, and we love it.
I read constantly! I love sci-fi that is sort of domestic---about life on other planets or parallel universes or time travel. I always enjoy a well written biography. I love children's fantasy, like anything by L. Frank Baum, C. S. Lewis and Lewis Carroll. I like novels about everyday life, not the rich and famous! I'm a big fan of Stephen King, not of horror in general but of him because I think he's one of the greatest living writers.
I'm not a huge movie watcher. Mostly I watch what my daughter, who is 16 and autistic, likes. We watch Coco about twice a day and all four Toy Story movies are on heavy rotation! Also Home, The Emperor's New Groove, The Little Mermaid and Hercules. I love Groundhog Day, The Truman Show, Pleasantville and other uncanny valley type movies.
I love The Simpsons, and I'm excited it's on Disney Plus! Also The Good Place, The Big Bang Theory, ER, Frasier, The Office, Seinfeld, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Bob Newhart Show...a lot of older sitcoms. I'm a pretty big Star Trek fan. My younger son and I just finished watching every show of every series, a project we started about 10 years ago! We are happy that new shows are still being made, and we are enjoying Lower Decks so far.
Knitting (not great at it!) Crocheting (also not great...) Stickers (I'm not bad at sticking stickers on things!) Beading (an amateur) I love charms! Anything postcard related.
I recently got into acrylic paint pouring art, and I LOVE it! It's so easy to make something that looks so special! It's the perfect craft for someone like me, who isn't terribly crafty but who loves the process of crafting!
The theme is---I love crafts but I'm not a skilled craftsperson.
My favorite colors are blue, gray and green.
I'm a big fan of Animal Crossing, The Sims in all its versions and right now I'm pretty into Hearthstone. I like games that involve getting really into stories, or that use a lot of strategy. I like word games a lot. I've played Scrabble on Facebook every day for the last 11 years! I love pens, almost all pens, especially gel pens. I'm a big candy fan, except for chocolate---I'm not really a chocolate person, rare, I know! I love Kinder Eggs, though. I love stickers and yarn and any kind of blind box toys---I love surprises! I'm a huge Peanuts/Charlie Brown/Snoopy fan, and I am pretty into The Simpsons stuff. I adore Edward Gorey, anything he illustrated. I like interesting notecards with envelopes a lot.
I love postcards, sending them and getting them and buying them and anything to do with them! Any postcards are welcome, but my very favorites are the Blue Cat cards by Rina Zeniuk, any cat postcards really, Christmas postcards (even when it's not Christmastime, but especially at Christmastime!), cards with foxes or hedgehogs and cards with detail-filled illustrations. I generally like illustrated postcards more than photos, and non-tourist cards more than tourist ones. Other favorites of mine are square postcards, Jetoy cards, Peanuts/Snoopy cards, Pettson and Findus cards, cards featuring Queen Elizabeth, wry cartoon cards, paper doll cards and 3-D postcards. I am from Maine, and consider myself a Mainer in exile! So any and all cards featuring Maine are extreme favorites of mine. Postcards have enriched my life over the past few years so very much. I feel far less isolated than I did. I can look forward to the mail each day and every single card I get is a treat.
I don't really like green tea or tea with rooibos (I like all other teas!) Not really into superhero type comics. Not a huge chocolate fan. I'm not that into tourist style postcards (except those featuring Maine), but if you want to share where you live via postcard, I do understand!
But if you think you have something in any of those categories that might change my mind, I will be open to it! I
I've always been a sticker lover, as long as I can remember. In the sticker Golden Age of the 80s, when almost every store sold stickers, I couldn't leave a store without a pile of them. My very favorite kind now are the kind that are meant for laptops or water bottles, the bigger style single stickers that come in a huge variety. But I love almost every kind, especially sheets of ones where every one is different or anything with cats, coffee or hedgehogs. I am not sure what it is about stickers I love so much, but I do!
