About Me

I'm a 29-year-old crafter with a day job living in Oklahoma City with my amazing boyfriend and our sweet dog and kitty cat.

Gerty Jimmy

I work an office job by day, and I like to craft when I have free time!

My favorite color is green (especially shades of lime and olive), and other than that I prefer bold colors to pastels and prints to solids. I like design that has clean, modern lines, rather than more frilly things. I love everything vintage and spend a lot of time shopping at local thrift stores (and Goodwill is always on my list of attractions when travelling! If you're coming to Oklahoma City, I can recommend stores!) and definitely break for yard sales. I collect vintage fabric and linens, trim, and notions, so if you want to do a personal trade, I'm up for it!

So far my best thrift score has been a more than complete (extra screens and bulbs even!) Print Gocco set for $7.50 at Goodwill a couple of years ago!

I love tattoos, and I am slowly but surely covering myself in them. Having a friend who owns a tattoo shop has made this much easier! Mine are mostly sci-fi themed.

I prefer coffee to tea (except for iced tea!). I'm originally from around Memphis, so I love barbeque, but other than that, I'm not much of a meat eater. I love to bake cookies, cupcakes, and other sweets! Let's swap recipes! If you like peanut butter cookies, I have several awesome recipes that I love and am always looking for the "perfect" peanut butter cookie. I love love love Mexican food! One of the wonderful things about my boyfriend is that he is an amazing cook, and though he can make anything well, I find myself sometimes wishing we could eat the traditional Mexican food he grew up eating every single day! I love southern US food, too, and chocolate!

I love robots, dinosaurs, owls, octopus, squid, matryoshka (Russian nesting dolls!), and mushrooms. I don't really decorate for Christmas, but lately I've found myself drawn to vintage ornaments and trim.

I neglect my blog too much, but I often post photos to flickr. Don't look if I'm sending you something, though, unless you don't mind ruining the surprise, that is!

Please don't send me items of a religious nature unless they are meant to be ironic or kitschy. Do feel free to send Chick tracts, though, because I think they are funny/horrible.

Favorite Crafts

I love to sew and make scrap and patchwork items using brightly colored, patterned vintage fabric. I dabble in many other crafts including jewelry making, bookbinding, gocco and many types of printmaking, and most recently I have become obsessed with crochet. I wish I could easily find the colors of cotton yarn that I often see online in completed projects. All I seem to be able to find as far as decent quality, fairly inexpensive cotton is very pastel-y and muted which is not for me. I like to embellish my projects with embroidery! There really isn't a craft that I am not interested in! I don't really scrapbook, but I love neat bits of paper as much as the next person! I've been collecting patterned bits of security envelopes lately.

I love Japanese fabrics and craft books! I don't have a very large collection, but I am looking to expand! Other than vintage and Japanese fabric, I'm obsessed with Heather Ross! I'd love to trade scraps or fq's of vintage fabric with you!

Favorite Television

I like A LOT of tv shows. Even though I don't have cable or really have the television on that often. Tim & Eric Awesome Show Great Job!, Mystery Science Theater 3000, Flight of the Conchords, Strangers With Candy, Tom Goes To The Mayor, Squidbilles, The Colbert Report, Venture Bros., It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, The Daily Show, Important Things, My Name Is Earl, The Sarah Silverman Program, King of the Hill, The Office, 30 Rock, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Arrested Development, Family Guy, American Dad, SNL (sometimes), Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, Man to Man with Dean Learner, Metalocalypse, Space Ghost Coast To Coast, House, Futurama, Xavier: Renegade Angel, Mr. Show, Kids In The Hall, Cooking Shows, Real Time With Bill Maher, Law And Order, Matlock (seriously), Bones, 80s cartoons!

When I'm not watching DVDs of television, I'm listening to music or podcast or the radio. I'm an NPR fanatic. I love This American Life and other slice-of-life-story type of programs.

Favorite Movies

Back To The Future, Hot Fuzz, Shaun Of The Dead, Strangers With Candy, Jurassic Park, Children of Men, The Dark Knight, Mike Judge movies, Stupid Comedies, Documentaries, 80s Movies, Terrible Sci-Fi Movies (and the few good ones), Zombie Movies (doesn't matter which, I love the horrible ones and the good ones equally).

Favorite Music

Punk Rock, Garage, Lo-Fi, Surf, Psychobilly, Novelty. I am a huge Weird Al fan. ;)

Favorite Books

I love to read, but I don't do nearly enough of that lately. Science fiction is my favorite--especially time travel or stories involving robots. I love short stories and have quite a collection of vintage sci fi paperbacks with awesome covers!
