I Recently rediscovered my creative side- making things for my little ones. Living in the UK, currently renovating our 1950s house and looking forward to indulging my love of classic 50s design as we get to decorating and kitting out. Have a thing about chairs and graphic print. We enjoy being out in the garden, growing our own fruit and veg, walks in the park and fussing round our rabbit. I Love the designs of Orla Kiely, Lotta Jansdotter and so much of the Marimekko stuff. Collect vintage fabric. Love danish design. Like to shop on etsy and like websites such as thesmallobject and for ideas for my kids: weewonderfuls and sugar city journal.
I start an art course (printing) at college this term that i'm so excited about- it's only an evening class but I'm really looking forward to it.
Charley Harper- an illustrated life
For my girls (and me): Eric Carle, Maurice Sendack, dick Bruna and Lauren Child are very popular.
I like traditional fairy tales rather than the disney versions, the old Grimm Brothers tales are great and i'm working on a red riding hood quilt inspired by maki squarepatch.
Sewing- still getting to know my sewing machine but have run up some dolls clothes (my girls both have fisher price my best friend dolls- and i have the old patterns-yay!) and soft toys/stuffies and am working on using some of my vintage fabric stash for home furnishings. Like the idea of reusing and recycling fabrics. Love hand knitted stuff(especially small toys) but can't knit myself (yet). Have just picked up some Charley Harper in Stiches cross stitch patterns so will be having a go at those (any ideas of how to use them in a contemporary way?). Small projects like decorating nesting dolls, wooden mascots etc I like using felt and am always on the lookout for wool felt as that is so nice to work with.
I don't think you can ever have too many handmade totes or drawstring bags- i use them for everything!
My new thing is printing- I'm going to get together a stash of printed goodies- lino cut, screen print, woodblock etc to get me inspired for my new course.
I love to have a go at simple art/ craft projects with my kids.
Saul Bass, Charles Harper, Roy Lictenstien, Andy Warhol, Enzo Mari, Angie Lewin
