I'm a single mom, a disabled veteran, and a full time student from NY. I did about 7 years in the US Navy. I'm working on a BA/MS in Criminal Justice (finishing up May '10). I don't do much other than go to school and raise my daughter at the moment.
Hmm....some random facts about me:
I have no singing voice, but I love to sing. I love learning about my ancestry. My daughter is part Korean (her grandmother was from Korea, and her father was born in Seoul)...and refers to herself as an "asiancasian."
My Daughter:
I have a lovely daughter, Evalyn. She's almost 7 and in first grade. She makes me laugh every day, and is always coming up with something new to tell me. She loves singing and making up songs, and we sing together everywhere--even walking around a store shopping. Some of her favorite things are hearts, webkinz, littlest pet shop, Superman, animals, sparkly things, princesses, Disney (esp. tinkerbell and nightmare b4 christmas), Polly Pocket, and baby dolls. She loves watching movies, and has so many I'm not sure if she has a favorite. Her favorite kids music is Laurie Berkner, but she sings a lot to songs on the radio too. She loves the colors of the rainbow, but her favorite colors are pink, purple, blue, and green.
Favorite authors: Diana Gabaldon, Barbara Erskine, JK Rowling, Stephenie Meyer, Fannie Flagg, JRR Tolkien, Cindy Brandner, KM Moning, Lauren Willig, Nancy E. Turner, Charlaine Harris...the list could go on and on, so I'll stop there. I have literally walked into wall corners because I was so engrossed in a book.
Oh goodness, what to choose. I love The Beatles. Aerosmith, Transiberian Orchestra, Charlotte Church (her earlier music), Muse, Mutemath, P!nk, any classical, Native American Flutes (like R. Carlos Nakai), Laurie Berkner (my daughter's music...too fun).
Monk (it's Monk's final :o( season), True Blood, Ghost Hunters, and Guy Fieri's: Diner's, Drive-in's, and Dive's. Don't get to watch much though. Usually have to catch re-runs.
Pirates of the Caribbean, Lord of the Rings, Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Harry Potter, Rob Roy, Indiana Jones, Beatles' Movies (Help, A Hard Day's Night), Hot Fuzz, and Shaun of the Dead.
By no means am I really good at crafts, but I do like doing them. I love coloring (yep, in my kid's coloring books...we sit together and color), I recycle old candle jars by tissue papering them (put a fake candle in and they glow pretty), sewing, making soaps, making cards. I'm up to learning new crafts...I want to learn how to knit or crochet, and I eventually want to make a memory quilt for my daughter. I'm hoping to do this after I'm done working on my degrees.
I love writing to other people and learning about them. Over the last two years, I started collecting postcards, and writing penpals.
I like getting postcards that show the city/town/country the person comes from, nature scenes, historical places, parks, unusual cards, lighthouses, churches, castles, animals, funny/comic, art...I guess just about anything.
I love: the colors blue and green, celtic, dragonflies, baltic amber, books, true crime, tinkerbell, horses, nature, digital photography, paranormal, taking walks, swimming, and playing games with my daughter.
I collect: bookmarks, fairies, stationary, stickers, fabric, postcards. Okay, so I'm addicted to bookmarks and postcards.
I'm also a chocoholic. I'm not big on white chocolate, but I'm always willing to try something new. I never know if I'll be surprised and like something. I love nuts, esp. almonds and hazlenuts. Who'm I kidding I'll eat pretty much anything if it's chocolate ;o)
Since I decided to join a sock swap, I figured I should put some info up for that. I am a women's US size 8.5-9 shoe, so I wear sock size US 4-10. I like ankle, crew, or knee socks (no toe socks or socks above knee, please). Crazy patterns, cute pictures, funky socks (no fuzzy type socks though). Feel free to contact me.
If you don't receive anything from me in a reasonable amount of time, please let me know by message. I do not mark things "Sent" unless I have actually put them into the hands of the post office.
what I pledged
I love getting rated for my swaps, and love rating others for theirs. If you do not get rated by me, then I have not received the swap yet (feel free to PM me). I try to contact swappers before I rate. If you do not receive a swap from me in a sensible amount of time please PM me before you rate. I do not mark items sent until I have placed them into the hands of the USPS. If I am running late with a swap I will notify before the deadline (with that said, if a swap is not marked sent, and I haven't contacted you to say I'm running late just PM me because that means I've totally forgotten to mark it sent). Thank you so much!
