About Me

Mom to one. US Navy veteran. Nerd. Bibliophile. Tea lover. Chocoholic. Crochet and yarn addict.

Random facts about me:
I have no singing voice, but I love to sing. I love learning about my ancestry. My daughter is part Korean (her grandmother was from S. Korea, and her father was born in Seoul)...and refers to herself as an "AsianCasian."

My Daughter:

I have a lovely daughter, she's now a teen, and she just amazes me. She makes me laugh every day, and is always coming up with something new to tell me. She loves singing and making up songs, and we sing together everywhere--even walking around a store shopping. She loves watching movies, and has so many I'm not sure if she has a favorite. She loves the colors of the rainbow, but her favorite color is black.

Favorite Books

AUTHORS:

Diana Gabaldon, Barbara Erskine, JK Rowling, Fannie Flagg, JRR Tolkien, KM Moning, Nancy E. Turner, Colleen Hoover, Sabaa Tahir, Kata Cuic.

GENRES:

Historical fiction, Fantasy, True Crime, Paranormal, WWI-WWII-Civil War era novels (non-fiction and fiction) I'll pretty much read anything if it catches my interest.

I have literally walked into wall corners because I was so engrossed in a book.

Music/TV/Movies

MUSIC:

I love The Beatles. Aerosmith, any classical, Native American Flutes (like R. Carlos Nakai)... The Avett Brothers are my all time favorite, and I finally got to see them in concert Summer 2014.

TELEVISION:

Monk (I miss Monk). Vikings, The Alienist, and NFL games. Pretty much only turn my tv on for those three.

MOVIES:

Lord of the Rings & Hobbit, Harry Potter, Disney, Hot Fuzz, and Shaun of the Dead. The Wizard of Oz was (and still is) my favorite growing up.

Favorite Crafts

By no means am I an expert at crafts, but I do like doing them. I love coloring (yep, in my kid's coloring books...we sit together and color). I am a crochet addict. One can never have enough yarn.

CROCHET: I am trading and collecting 6 inch granny squares to make an afghan (any kind design). Worsted weight, acrylic is good. Any color/combo.

Likes/Collect

I love writing to other people and learning about them. Over the last two years, I started collecting postcards, and writing penpals.
I love: the colors blue and green, celtic, dragonflies, baltic amber, books, horses, nature, digital photography, paranormal, taking walks, swimming, hiking, and playing games with my daughter.

POSTCARDS:

I like getting postcards that show the city/town/country the person comes from, nature scenes, historical places, parks, military, unusual cards, lighthouses, places of worship (churches, temples, etc), castles, animals, funny/comic, art...I guess just about anything.

COLLECT:

bookmarks, stationary, stickers, postcards. Okay, so I'm addicted to bookmarks and postcards.

Food/Tea

CHOCOHOLIC:

I'm not a fan of white chocolate, but I'm always willing to try something new. I never know if I'll be surprised and like something. I love nuts, esp. almonds and hazlenuts. Who'm I kidding I'll eat pretty much anything if it's chocolate ;o)

TEA:

Tea...another addiction. I love black, green, white, rooibos, fruity, spicy (like chai), etc. I love a good, strong cuppa. The only tea I can't drink seems to be Yerba Mate. It doesn't agree with me.

If you don't receive swap

If you don't receive anything from me in a reasonable amount of time, please let me know by message. I do not mark things "Sent" unless I have actually put them into the hands of the post office.

Pledge To Rate

I Pledge to Rate what I pledged

I love getting rated for my swaps, and love rating others. If you do not get rated by me, then I have not received the swap yet (feel free to PM me). I always try contacting a partner before I rate neutral or negative.

If you do not receive a swap from me in a sensible amount of time please PM me before you rate. I do not mark items sent until I have placed them into the hands of the USPS.

If I ever think I will not make a swap deadline, and will send out late, I will notify the coordinator and any partners I am sending to.

Comment: Thank you Kerry! What an ambitious list - I'm lucky if I manage 3 books per month. :) Happy summer reading!
Response: LOL! If I'm in reading mode, I can average a novel a day. My daughter reads a full length novel in about 2-3 hours. I was the fast one until her, lmao! I didn't really read much last 2 months. I had a concussion and lots of headaches, so now I'm trying to make up for lost time. I'm thinking I'm not finishing my list, but I'll try!! ;-) Happy reading!!

Comment: Thanks for the tea (yum!) and the note. Hope you and your daughter heal fast! My sister and her daughter went with Ancestry.com and I went with Family Tree DNA. Well, my and my sister's ethnicity was different - WAY different, so I contacted Family Tree and asked for my money back since I knew what they had given me was wrong. They refused, and the next time I went on, my ethnicity had changed - more like my sister's. So don't go with Family Tree! I think Ancestry, com is the best. IMHO Thanks again!!!
Response: Oh my gosh, that sounds horrible! I went with ancestry because they've had the most people tested in the areas I've tracked my ancestry, so I figured it'd be the most accurate. I already have family from both sides that have done their DNA on ancestry, so I figured if I wanted to make a GEDCOM and then put it on other sites later, I could. I've been wracking my mind as my uncle's shows he has a percentage of Europe West, which would mean a his great grandparent would have been full blooded from that area. I have traced that side back further than that, and I have Wales, Sweden, England, Norway, Finland. Everyone accounted for, so now I'm like...hmm, someone in my family needed to be on Maury to find out who is "not the father". I've been going out of my head trying to figure it out. So either someone was cheated on, or married to help a pregnant ancestor who needed a husband. There is no one I have found at all from that area. Oi! It'll drive you nuts...lol

Comment: I love the Lady Liberty pc and her words are timeless. Thank you so much!
Response: Being a New Yorker, I love Lady Liberty. Anytime we went away, I knew we were home as soon as I saw her while crossing the Verrazano. The poem was written as part of the fundraising to get her built. I always thought that was cool, and the words welcoming.

"If there's a phone in heaven put Mama on the line."

Phone in Heaven by Mike Manuel

I asked my daughter if she would sing this at my funeral and she said she didn't think she could make it through the whole song...
