I am a mother of two teenagers and just getting through things one day at a time. I yearn to be more creative and am trying out various styles/types/techniques of art and creativity to address this need. I've always wanted to travel but never really had the opportunity so I hope to be able to swap with people from all over the world and learn more about different countries/cultures.
I live in a little village next to the sea on the east coast of South Africa. We have lots of sun all year round but strangely I'm more of a rainy day girl - I love my coffee and blanket snuggles.
Besides the teens, I have two cats and a darling little doggy that I love dearly - so dearly they call me the "smother mother".
I'm really quite an 80s chick in terms of music and love my 80s rock and pop. I've influenced my daughter's taste in music in this way so now I have an 18 year old who listens to Aerosmith!
I've got to say The Notebook and The Lakehouse. I could watch those over and over. I'm also a huge fan of psychological twists so think Shutter Island, Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, oooo and The Others.
TV-wise I'm into Black Mirror. I really enjoy watching the Amazing Race. I wish like crazy that the Amazing Race would come to South Africa as I would definitely participate.
My all-time favourite book, which has been my favourite for the past 18 years and has never had the title of "My Favourite Book" usurped, is Crosstitch by Diana Gabaldon, or the Outlander series as they are known now. Epic. Absolutely epic.
My second favourite book of all time is "When Hoopoe's Go to Heaven" by Gaile Parkin. I need to read it again. And I don't usually read books twice. But this one is a winner. The humour is too lovely and the drama bitter-sweet. It's captivating.
Besides that I tend to find myself looking for Stephen King and Dean Koontz on the shelf. This year I'd like to breakaway from that and get a bit more adventurous with my reading so I make notes of everyone's favourites on Swap-Bot and add them to my Library List.
My hobbies and interests include reading, playing squash, painting, scrapbooking, ATCs, geocaching, crochet, genealogy and postcrossing.
Unfortunately the postage system in South Africa is a little ...unstable. I do ask for a little bit of patience and understanding if it takes a while. I've actually had a postal clerk ask me if Russia was in the UK or the USA!!! Please contact me if you have any concerns before rating me down. I'm always happy to resend.
I believe there is a problem with the South African postal customs for incoming post. It may take a while for me to receive your stuff. I will never rate someone down because it took long for me to receive so please don't stress about that. I will continue to wait patiently and I will contact you if too much time has passed.
