I am a child-free, non-religious (but fascinated by religious artifacts, texts, and history) non-conformist, liberal, feminist who likes a bit of quaint and tradition.
Prior to returning to Pittsburgh (for family reasons), I lived in NYC (Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens); Beekman and Manhasset, NY; Philadelphia, PA; New Orleans, LA; and Seattle, WA. I studied in Manchester, England and Florence, Italy.
Plant-based (eat honey) Minimal-ish lifestyle (Essentialist?) I love 1930s - 1950s fashion. However, given that my work commute is a three-mile walk (each way), I opt for fairly basic and practical clothing over precious vintage clothing!
My hobbies include reading, letter-writing, and hunting for goodies in thrift and vintage stores, and travelling. I love knitting, but I have been on a very long hiatus.
I love to explore places near and far. Japan, Sweden, Iceland, and Australia are on my far places travel list. I want to see Machu Picchu and the Great Pyramids of Egypt. My fantasy trip -- The Orient Express!
Hollywood classics are a favorite! Dinner at Eight, His Girl Friday, Auntie Mame, Charade, Stalag 17, Rebecca, and Sunset Boulevard, etc.
When it comes to modern films, I like a bit of atmosphere. In fact, I can forgive a multitude of plot sins if there is ATMOSPHERE. (I am looking at you, Crimson Peak!).
I like horror films, but I prefer the atmospheric ones -- Swallow, I Am The Pretty Thing That Lives in the House, Rosemary's Baby, Rear Window, Darling, etc.
Other favorites: Amelie, The Usual Suspects LA Confidential, Ghost (with Casey Affleck), The Crow, Cold Fever
I tend to read non-fiction about yoga, fashion, capsule wardrobes, beauty, and mindful/simple living/minimalism. Your Beauty Mark, Eccentric Glamour, Clear Your Clutter with Feng Shui, Buddhist Bootcamp, Escape from Domestic Perfection, and The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up had significant impact on my life.
Fiction: I enjoy mysteries, especially the British ones. I enjoy a good cozy (but not too cozy) mystery now and then.
I do not own a television, but I watch Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and YouTube. On YouTube I watch videos about minimalism, simple living, cottage life, zero waste, vintage style, etc.
In the current climate (COVID-19 pandemic, racial profiling, protests, etc.), I alternate between dark shows and more escapist fare.
Queen's Gambit, Hollywood, Ratchet, Agatha Raisin, Downton Abbey, Peaky Blinders, Marvelous Mrs. Maizel, House of Cards (US), The Servant, The Alienist, Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries, Game of Thrones, Penny Dreadful, The Killing, Deadwood, Hannibal, Orange is the New Black (seasons 1-3), Orphan Black.
YouTube channels that I follow: TheCottageFairy, Nicki Positano, Benita Larrsen, Chef AJ, Bernadette Banner, Emily Wheatley, Balancing Laura, A Small Wardrobe, Vested Interests, and From the Mind of Christine McConnell
Goth, punk, and alternative music from the 1980s-1990s! Ministry, The Smiths, Morrissey, Sinead O'Connor, The Sisters of Mercy, Ghost, Cocteau Twins, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Gogo's (it pains me to add that incorrect apostrophe!), etc.
Metal, rock, traditional folk music, and singer-songwriters with beautiful voices -- Sarah McLaughlin, The Chicks, etc.
When I need to relax and prep for sleep, I listen to Takashi Kokubo or other deep relaxation music.
I have a solid morning practice (thanks to Covid-19 working from home), and when it comes to getting bendy, I prefer slower Hatha flows, Yin, Iyengar, Kundalini, and Restorative Yoga.
For fitness, I prefer low-impact and more gentle options such as walking, hiking, Pilates, Barre, Ballet Beautiful, Bellydance, etc.
I really like Ellen Barrett's workouts, but I have been less about hour-long DVD workouts and more about 20-minute long YouTube workouts!
While it's been a few years since my last project, I do knit. I was miserable at beading (sadly).
I love stationery and pens! I love vintage-style prints, steampunk, illustrated botanicals, floral, dark, gothic, and minimalist styles. I am not keen on the cutesy stuff, but I wouldn't rate down.
I just started a bullet journal. I am investigating hand-lettering and art journalling.
Tea: I love pretty much any tea except for cinnamon teas. I like the spice in foods, but I simply do not like it in teas.
Coffee: I used to love coffee and espresso drinks, but my stomach cannot tolerate them now. :-(
Food: Plant-based/vegan Thai, Vietnamese, Korean, Japanese, Burmese, Italian, Polish, some Mexican, and interesting fusion foods
I love a good pizza -- no cheese and lots of red sauce!
