About Me

alt text

Note: I’ve been on Swapbot without a hitch for over a year, but I feel as if my work/life balance is tilting more towards the latter and is taking it’s toll on me. I have been relying on a third party (bad idea) to help me deliver mail to a post box as work has ramped up (thankfully, but nevertheless, it’s a schedule I do not enjoy working around) and this system is not working out for me, so I will have to take some time off to focus on work, and my IG account (which has sadly also winded down). Following that, should you need to contact me for anything once I am on my break, do drop me a private message on Swapbot or DM on Instagram and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

I'm a Jack-of-all-trades and a master of none. My interests include crafting, collecting stuff (vintage knick knacks and clothing, washi from everywhere and old school stickers from my childhood), and traveling.

I'm a total city kid. I love the idea of the countryside, but after a few days it starts to freak me out (too quiet - where's the traffic). My favourite thing to do in my city is to hunt for street art - preferably at night when it isn't so hot (it's always hot in Kuala Lumpur). And we have amazing artists where I'm from.

My favourite part of swapping is mail art and I love to see mail art in your distinct style.

10 favourite books

  1. Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain
  2. The Magicians series by Lev Grossman
  3. A Life in Frocks by Kelly Doust
  4. Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman
  5. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
  6. Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
  7. South of the Border, West of the Sun by Haruki Murakami
  8. Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffinegger
  9. The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets by Eva Rice
  10. Care Packages by Michelle Mackintosh

Things I like, love & dislike

I love to receive:

  • horticultural cutouts: I use these in my journal and on envelopes. My favourites are of mushrooms and flowers.
  • stickers: I love designs featuring nature, books, coffee, pastries, maps, precious stones, planets and stars, cats, fashion, cacti, and succulents. Currently, my favourite stickers are by Flow Paper Lovers, Sandy Lion, vintage Sanrio, and Mrs Grossman. My preferences lean towards stickers from the 90s and earlier, but I love new ones. Especially the Sticker Marche line from Midori (so cute!).
  • vintage paper: I was recently sent happy mail with some vintage wrapping paper samples and they were lovely! Otherwise, I also love vintage cutouts from books and magazines and random old ephemera.
  • washi tape: I love trading washi tapes! I mostly buy Japanese and Taiwanese branded washis, as well as generic washis and I love mixing and matching between them. My favourite brands are OURS, Toffee Rabbit, Aimez Le Style, Chamil Garden, Classiky, MT, Bande and Maste, but I also love a whole bunch of Taiwanese designers I can barely begin to list them down!
  • tea: I don't buy tea often because I feel like I won't be able to commit to a whole box in one flavour, but I love receiving tea in the post. My favourite flavours are berry, tangerine and peppermint, but I also like to try new things. I recently tried the rooibos with banana and vanilla Moomin tea by Nordqvist which was excellent!
  • glansbilder/scraps: We don't have these where I'm from, and I love receiving them. I'm also happy to trade for full/partial sheets.
  • curated paper scrap packs: I don't receive this very often but I love when people put together happy mail scrap packs in a theme. It tells me so much about what you like, and allows me to make things from materials you have chosen.
  • Traveler's Notebook accessories: I started journaling not too long ago, but I have commited myself to a full sized blue TN and I love it! I'm quite excited about it and have been collecting ephemera, envelopes to turn into pockets, inserts, and charms to add to it. I've even picked up some foreign coins to turn into charms (once I find someone to drill a hole in them)!
  • food: one of my most favourite things to receive is your favourite snack! I'm not allergic to much so I can generally eat anything you send me (except for liquorice - which is weird, as I don't mind the smell of it). I love trying new foods from different countries and I have a massive sweet tooth! Also, I think that it's cool how different spicy food is from one country to another. And one of the best swaps ever sent to me was this amazing local tea selection with a couple of local salt water taffies and they were delicious! It was one of the most magical things ever sent to me.
  • other random things I like: I appreciate a witchy aesthetic, and collect old vintage dresses and knick knacks. I love motel style keychains (we don't have those here), and collecting storage boxes (which is weird, I know, but useful given that I have a habit of hoarding little paper things).

I love to send:

  • flip books: I love making flip books it's one of my most favourite things to send. I prefer making a more minimalist version with less flips and layers, and a more clean look, whilst still capturing the essence of a flip book. But sometimes I go nuts with the flips and pockets! I love extremes in design and crafting.
  • happy mail: I like to send people things that make me happy at the moment. So whatever it is that I buy and use for myself and love, I tend to also send to my swap partners. Currently, I love those Japanese paper envelopes you get in a bunch of sizes and designs at Daiso, and I've been including a bunch of those in my letters and swaps.
  • postcards: I don't use postcards very often but I bought a bunch I like very much, and I like to add them to my swaps.
  • stickers: I have a sticker hoarding problem that I've been trying to curb, so I've been sharing stickers that I like (but do not love, as the ones I do love get put away into storage) with everyone.
  • washi tape: I collect washi, but I've been trying to clear my stock of washi tape as I'd like to buy more. So if you'd like to trade anything for washi samples, just drop me a PM.
  • tea: Before Swapbot, I never really had a thing for tea. But now I love it, and I love sharing it!

I'm really sorry. I don't use the following, and I hate to waste:

  • anything with snails on it
  • religious pamphlets/quotes
  • instant coffee sachets
  • used cosmetic products
  • bookmarks
  • tourist keychains
  • coasters
  • magnets
  • caramel flavoured things
  • stamped images (with the exception of stickers. I love handmade stamped stickers)
  • costume jewelry (I don't know what to do with this)

Resends & flakes

I am doing a thorough clean up of my "sent" page, and will be documenting my progress sorting out incoming and outgoing swaps that have not arrived since I joined Swapbot. All profiles involved have been contacted privately.

NOTE: I will not hound anybody for resends, incoming or outgoing. What I prefer to do is drop a PM every other month should a swap not arrive at it’s destination. Communication is key, but we all have lives to attend to, so please have patience with me if I contact you late about a swap I've noticed that you have yet to receive. If I rate you a “1”, it is only so I can clear an old swap from my sent page. Please do not take it personally as I don't hold a grudge against missing mail and your rating can always be rectified after a resend.

Regarding the post

alt text

Pictured above is the postbox I use. I worked for a stint at the cafe behind it, and I've had customers ask me if the postbox was a prop! I love that spot, and it worries me that postman doesn't come often enough because it's rather out of the way but I'm on a one woman mission to revive this mail route. So, I'm sorry if the postmark is a little late.

Also, if a swap doesn't arrive, let me know! There's always something that can be done about that.

And as for incoming mail - it's a little slow so have some faith. It usually arrives! I usually rate immediately (or at least on the day I receive your swap). Drop me a PM if you're worried about your swap and I'll keep an eye out for it.

Comment: Thanks for the great stickers and for making sure they arrived!
Response: 5/12/18 - Hello Lilibet, as mentioned in the prior email, I posted all the outgoing letters I found as soon as I could (10th of November 2018). I noticed that many swaps I've mailed out on the same day have arrived and I believe your incoming swap(https://imgur.com/a/drk2Ecp) should arrive around the next couple of days. If it doesn't arrive, I'll be more than happy to send another. 29/12 - glad the original made it to you!

Comment: See this as a 3 with lots of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥! I really enjoyed the spooky story, the extras and your letter. You have a beautiful handwriting and I have never seen someone writing on vellum before! This rating is only for the late sending date - don`t give your sister your mail again...! :D If you want to, I would love to send you the story I wrote for this swap... Just let me know!
Response: Thank you for liking it! I love spooky letters (both sending and receiving them) so this was a blast. I totally understand the rating, but I'm still thrilled that you really enjoyed it! BTW I'd love to read the letter you sent for this swap! <3

Comment: Just got this today... thank you! I will write back soon! 😊
Response: I'm so glad you liked it! It was one of my favourite envelopes I've made yet!
Comment: this swap was a year late, but coming from overseas I cannot rate late. It was done very nicely. thank you
Response: Thank you for agreeing to allow me to resend, even if it was a year late. It has been quite a task to clean up my resends and unreceived swaps, but everyone who has replied to my messages has been wonderful to work with and I'm very glad for it. This was only my second minizine, so I'm glad you liked it. Thank you for the rating.

Comment: Thanks for the extra stickers!
Comment: Will change rating when swap is correct. So sorry. It was sent 2 weeks late, stickers with justwords and alphabet. I received only 1 sheet with something other than words, alphabet, labels. Please read requirements. 😕
Response: 28/11 - Don't be sorry. I was having some issues with the swaps back then, and managed to fix most of them (but one or two must have fell under the radar). I had relied on a third party to post for me and it was horribly unreliable. BUT mailing the wrong stickers is on me, and I can fix that. You might have to give me a week, but I'll update this response when I mail out your resend. 19/12 - I forgot to mention that I mailed out the remaining stickers two days ago! https://i.imgur.com/AVmY96v.jpg

Comment: contacted you already on 15.10.2018 - received a proposition for resent from you but didnt receive anything. please contact me and I will gladly re-rate.
Response: 13/11 - I should have messaged you much earlier due to the delay. I resent your swap on the 10th of November, which is a little late, but I hope it reaches you in a timely manner. Hope you enjoy it when it arrives, and rerate me fairly. Thank you.
