24th November 2008 - My baby grandson is doing really well now (touch wood), but we still haven't had the results of his chromosone tests though. Hubby and I had a wonderful holiday in October in New Hampshire, USA. Gorgeous place, and we managed to catch the autumn leaves before they all dropped. We had a wonderful rest and had fun shopping. Looking forward to baby's first Christmas now
I always send my swaps. Some of them to the USA haven't been getting there, or taking weeks to get there, whilst others take a few days. Please contact me if I have let you know the swap is on its way and you haven't received it after a week or so.
Wish List of things I'd love to have
I am 54 and I live in Kent, SE England, in a village said to be the longest village in Kent, as it is 5 miles long. I am married with 2 daughters, one is 22 and the other 24. My eldest daughter got married on 7th September last year, and I had the honour of making her wedding invitations, and all the wedding stationery for the service and reception, so was kept pretty busy in between swaps! My youngest daughter made us grandparents on Tuesday 25th March! She had a baby boy, 6lbs 3.5 oz and he's gorgeous! Since he's been born though he's been quite poorly, and suffers from fits where he stops breathing. He's been in the hospital 4 times since he was born, and when he is admitted he's in for 4/5 days at time. Luckily this hasn't happened since Aug 8th, but when this happens I spend my daytimes at the hospital with him while my daughter goes home to shower and get some rest. I have severely cut the number of swaps I was in and hosting just in case.
I don't have any pets at the moment, although I have had rabbits in the past. I quite like dogs, but not keen on cats. I like other animals such as sheep, pigs, cows, hedgehogs, frogs, peacocks, giraffes, elephants and all types of monkey.
I like to think of myself as a 'greenie', and try to re-use or recycle anything I can. I hate waste and find it very hard living in a 'throw away' society. I would love to have a Morsebag.
I am a caring, friendly person who does not judge people by their looks or circumstances. I have been a member of various Yahoo groups for 4 years and have made lots of friends - most of which I have never met.
I'm a bit of a spendaholic but only as far as craft stuff is concerned... I cannot go in a craft supplies shop without buying something. I am currently trying to cure this addiction, but it's going to take time!
I am a few stones overweight but am not that bothered at the moment. I did join Slimming World at the end of October 2007 and lost 2 stone (28lbs) by February, but since then I have lapsed back into my bad habits and eat rubbish. I just cannot seem to get motivated at the moment to lose any more weight, but I am sure that in the next couple of months something will 'click' and I'll start again. I suffer from seasonal depression (which has no preference for seasons!), but I have learnt to live with it.
I can be a bit of a perfectionist in things I do which sometimes is frustrating. I hate mistakes in grammar and spelling and sometimes wish I could correct posters and shop notices with mistakes in them!
I am not a housework lover and not too keen on cooking or anything domestic.. it takes up valuable crafting time. But I do it when it needs to be done.
I am involved in fundraising for a local charity who bring groups of children from the Chernobyl area of Belarus over to England every year. This holiday boosts their immune systems for 2 years. Last year we had two 8 year old girls stay with us during August.
I would love to make a patchwork quilt: in fact I probably have enough fabric in my attic to make about 10 quilts, all bought on holidays to the US in 2001, 2003 and 2005. I have yet to start one! Nov 2008 Update: I have joined a patchwork and quilters' group and will be going to my first meeting January 10th. Maybe this time next year I will have made a quilt or two!
I love the vintage ephemera that is around, and things from the 50s and 60s when I was growing up. Also ephemera from the 1st and 2nd world wars.
I am not a materialistic person and am trying to cut the clutter in my home. I don't wear a lot of jewellery as I am allergic to anything that is not gold or sterling silver - it brings me out in lumps and turns my skin green! I am not that nterested in clothes at the moment, as not much fits me and I hate buying new clothes in a larger size. When I lost weight at the beginning of the year I disposed of all my 'fat' clothes so it's getting to the stage now where I either buy a larger size or diet!
When I'm slimmer I get more 'into' clothes.. in both senses of the word! I don't believe that clothes change who you are inside... you can be wearing a £1000 suit or a cheap pair of jeans.. you are still the same person.
I don't fuss about with make-up either: I use a lipstick and a bit of mascara, and for a special occasion, maybe a bit of eyeshadow and eyeliner. Hubby says I don't need make-up (maybe he needs better glasses!!!)
I love my holidays too. Have been to the US 4 times now (2001: New England; 2003: California; 2005: Lewiston/Clarkston on Idaho/Washington border and Portland, then Seattle): and New Hampshire again in 2008. Loved it every time. Love the craft shops, the way of life, the friendliness and politeness everywhere. I also like Spain, as we seem to go there at least once a year. Future travel destinations I'd love to visit are Australia, New Zealand, China, New England again, Thailand, Croatia, and Fiji. (Oh well I can dream!)
'Middle of the road' type.... Abba, Bread, Gerry Rafferty, easy listening (I'm old!!!)
I am not a big movie fan, as I hate sitting still for long! But ones I do like to watch are Overboard, Cocoon, Indiana Jones series,Jewel of the Nile, Romancing the Stone.
Little House on the Prairie; the Waltons; the Good Life; Emmerdale; Neighbours; Deal or No Deal; Desperate Housewives; ER; quiz programmes; documentaries; nature programmes; Miss Marple mysteries (with Joan Hickson as Miss Marple); Inspector Morse; and I've just discovered House, and am really addicted!
Scrapbooking, cardmaking, ATCs. Hopefully patchwork and quilting when I start my classes. My favourite colours are lilac/mauve/purples, and pinks... although I don't mind any other colours.
