About Me

I like to send mail & receive mail. Just not bills.

In the world of snail mail, there are few things more sad than a postcard with blank space. Seems criminal.

Favorite Books

Don't even know where to start, but I love to read. I always seem to have 3-7 books going at once, including listening to audio books while I drive (though most of the time, I am listening to National Public Radio). One of my favorite book genres is what I call the "foodie travelogue," where I get to learn about both food & places. "On the Noodle Road," by Jennifer Lin-Liu, is one example of such a book.

I also like humor a lot, Carl Hiaasen is a favorite, Sarah Vowell's hilarious & informative looks into history, comics/cartoon collections, mysteries... lots of stuff!

Favorite Television

Samantha Bee, John Oliver, Stephen Colbert's Late Show (though I watch it on the website, since it's on too late)...I've started watching Trevor Noah's Daily Show online, too.

Also, I'm a lifelong fan of Sesame Street & its Muppet cast. I don't actually watch it these days, but still, I'm grandfathered in.

Favorite Places

BEACHES. I'm not a sunbather; I love to walk along the coastline, explore tidepools, go whale watching, looking for seals, sea lions, & sea otters. Oh yeah, I'm an aquarium fan, too.

I spend a good deal of my beach time photographing toys--toys I have packed in with me! Kinder toys, Doraemon (and other Japanese manga/anime-related), odd, unusual, retro & fun stuff... it's a fun creative outlet, and an excuse to get out & enjoy fresh air. I have a flickr full of my shots.

Astro and pups

I love to travel. I've been to several countries in Latin America as a child, several in Europe as a teen, and, recently, a few in Asia. Most of my traveling, though, is domestic: right here in California (as you may have guessed, I gravitate toward coastal regions), and also Hawaii (I often fantasize about making it home). Disneyland has been a frequent destination, too. Kinda domestic, kinda international, uh, right?

Astro and pups

Favorite holidays/seasons: * "Spring Forward"/Daylight Savings Time! I love all of that extra light at the end of the day. * Spring & Summer * Lunar New Year * Dia de Los Muertos

Fish/aquaria/marine mammals

Least-favorite holidays/seasons: * "Fall Back"/Standard Time: No, thanks! It's colder, it's darker, I'm sleepier & sadder. * Fall & Winter * Halloween * Thanksgiving (I try to be thankful every day, and I'm just not a fan of any of those supposedly-manadatory recipes. Canned yams with marshmallow? NO THANKS!)

  • Spooky-dookie stuff, zombies, gothness (when it comes to ghost/devil stuff, here's what I DO like: Casper, Spooky, and Hot Stuff!) Harvey Comics

  • Religious stuff

Book Depository Wishlist

Since I was asked, I made one.

Swappy Stuff

Okay, so after quite some time on the site, I see that a profile seems to be not so much for a true profile, but for a list of "I want this, I don't want that." SO, here we go, a first attempt at fulfilling that. In the interest of keeping things positive (and yet still cheeky), my dislikes will also be in the likes list. I like:

  • Not candy, but chocolate. Dark.
  • Tea, but I don't want any sent to me, because tea is plentiful where I live, and I go to a tea store & buy loose-leaf teas by the box, direct from Asia, under their good counsel.
  • I also love coffee, and I also don't want any.
  • Not cosmetics, nor jewelry, because I don't use them.
  • Cools figures & toys, because of my photography habit listed above.
  • Comics: Make Mine Marvel. But not DC. Unless it's Bat Woman. But not Bat Girl. I'm a long-time Snoopy/Peanuts lover. Doraemon is sooo coool. Astro Boy is awesome. Jetter Mars, I have none of, but would like to. Hayao Miyazaki & Studio Ghibli are cooler than Pixar. I'm a lifelong fan of Grandma Duck & the Beagle Boys. This is a partial list.

I was really uncomfortable writing that. Like anyone, I have plenty of things I like & do not like, but...oh, nevermind.

Of course, if I get anything I do not care for, I will say, "thank you, and then anonymously dump them off at the 'here, take this, I don't want it" counter in the kitchen at work! =)

Comment: Hi there! Thank you so much for the Masala Kathi chunk o cardboard. I especially like the orange price tag on the front, and particularly the postage you used. The postmark situated itself just between the spaceman and the solar eclipse! Was very fun to receive, and brightened my day! All the Best, Diane.

Comment: I laughed at your note as PC's such as these do get passed along. I have the same two dancer cards and I had to look up where Bitgoraj even was.
Response: The best thing I've done with Postcard Fair cards is to use them as bases for stamp collages. =D Thanks for the rating!

Hello John!

I am just so happy that my card finally reached to your place :)

lawchick on Dec 27, 2016:

You're quite welcome for the unassigned roulette postcard! No unassigned for me yet...I may have been too far down the list (or otherwise unappealing). :) Take care!

I think Quantity Postcards was the company that used to be on Grant (N. Beach), and they're the ones who moved to Oakland. :) Great postcards!
