* 24/03/20 UPDATE We have now had stricter measures enforced here in the UK to only leave home in very specific circumstances. I have fulfilled any open swaps, but will not be signing up to any new ones for the time being as trips to the post office are not included on the essential list.*
I live in England in the United Kingdom. I am a wife, mother, christian, baker, gardener, craft maker, bookworm, friend, board game lover, christmas lover and homebody.
I love to laugh, to make connections with other people and to brighten people's days. I'm open, friendly and accept everyone as they are.
My husband works away quite a lot and we have just made the decision to home educate our 5 year old daughter.
We have a downstairs room which was used as an office which I have claimed and now call my Craft Emporium ;-)
We are blessed with a nice sized garden and last year I grew green beans, butternut squash, spaghetti squash, courgettes and beetroot all successfully! The carrots, parsnips and sprouts didn't fare so well.
As a family we have visited America 3 times all around the Oregon area as we have friends there. We love it and can't wait to go back.
I'm currently trying to reteach myself German so if anyone wants a (very) out of practice penpal let me know!
Can't wait to get to know you!
I love reading and I read to relax and switch off so I only like happy endings :-) I mostly read fiction, chick lit, fantasy and crime being my favourite genres.
Authors I like are: Sarah Morgan, Jude Deveraux, Nora Roberts (J.D.Robb), Debbie Macomber, Lucinda Riley, Lee Child, David Baldacci
Other books I have particularly enjoyed are the Harry Potter series and Magician. I will read these again and again.
I also have quite an extensive recipe book collection and I love just to flick through them. Crochet pattern books and gardening books are also favourites.
Crochet is the craft I do most often and which comes most naturally to me. I love to make things for other people. I've considered setting up an Etsy shop but for now I like to do it for fun and to bless people, not for money.
Over the years I have tried many different forms of journalling but found none ever fitted. Now I just do my own thing and I am loving it :-)
Since joining swap-bot I have rediscovered my love of letter writing.
I also enjoy sewing and paper cutting. I've recently gone back to cross stitch and starting to explore embroidery and am enjoying exploring different hand sewing techniques.
I will give a go to anything which takes my fancy or that I spot on pinterest! I'm currently decorating one wall in my daughter's room with a big tree mural. It's an enchanted tree with all sorts of things decorating it and hidden within it's branches. I've made tiny bunting from crochet and painted mushroom houses, there's an origami kite stuck somewhere and crocheted cherry blossom.
I'm a bit of a box set addict. We don't have a tv licence but we own boxsets and have a netflix account.
My favourite series that I've seen are:
West Wing, Gilmore Girls, Fringe, Warehouse 13, Numb3rs, Downton Abbey, Castle, Friends, Agents of Shield, Hawaii 5-0, Firefly
I love hallmark Christmas movies and have recently watched some of their tv series.
I'm always happy to receive a recommendation!
I love board games and me and my husband play regularly sometimes with friends and sometimes just the two of us. Our favourites at the moment are:
Patchwork, Love letter, Forbidden Island, Forbidden Desert and Forbidden Sky, Takenoko, Above and Below, Sorcerer's cave
Again I'm always happy for any recommendations, especially for good 2 player games.
Themes I like: bears, hedgehogs, penguins, wolves, yoshi, autumn/winter, lakes, waterfalls, woods, trees, rainbows, Christmas
Colour! I love colour, especially how different colours contrast each other.
Tim tams - absolutely love just the original ones but can't get them in the UK. Also Altoids (the original ones), York peppermint patties and the Nestle tollhouse mini morsels chocolate chips and their seasonal special edition chocolate and mint chocolate chips. I have been sent a couple of times sweets from Finland which are both gummy sweets and liquorice - soooo good!
Blank notecards, lined notebooks, pens (especially pretty ones/unusual ones)
Fiction books, recipe books
Anything related to a cosy evening in
Pumpkin spice or gingerbread scented candles (no other scents please). Unscented candles.
Christmas tree or Christmas house decorations
Easter tree decorations. I remember visiting Germany when I was a teenager and loving how much the shops and houses were decorated.
Autumn/Fall decorations - I love to decorate my house for all seasons but here in the UK there aren't really any for Fall available
Cookie cutters, cupcake sprinkles, recipes
Crochet related items, fabric, sewing items, seeds or other things to grow, acrylic yarn
Silver based stud earrings, fingerless gloves
Handmade items, anything crocheted
Something I can't get in the UK
Thanks for the thought, but I'd rather not have....
Sweetener of any kind (natural or artificial) as it makes me ill. Sugar, syrup, honey etc are all fine
Botanical or butterfly themed things
Halloween, horror, anything gory, clowns, spiders, snakes, insects
Food - banana, cinnamon, fruit teas, hot or spicy sweets/chocolate
Stamps - I don't use them and have no use for them so will just gift them onto somebody else
Papercraft supplies - I don't do ATC's, pocket letters, handmade cards or papercrafting of any sort so they will be wasted on me
Kids stuff or disney stuff
