About Me

I am a stay-at-home wife, formerly a homeschooling mom who has now graduated three children.

I am a new grandma! My son and his wife are the parents of a little girl. My husband and I call her the Bean; she is such a joy to us!

I enjoy reading, writing letters :-), studying the Bible, working on embroidery, and spending time with friends. I especially like to come alongside young women to help them in their journey of being Christian wives and mothers.

I am learning to use my time wisely as I am home by myself for most of the day. It's a learning process!

I like bird watching and have many feeders in my yard. I like to take nature walks with my husband.

Favorite Music

I like Christian music, especially the group Third Day. Some of my favorites are Jeremy Camp, Casting Crowns, MercyMe, Laura Story, Skillet, Josh Wilson, David Crowder.

I also like instrumental hymns. More and more I like listening to "quiet" music.

Favorite Books

My favorite book, other than the Bible, is Jane Eyre. A close second is Lord of the Rings trilogy. I like Jane Austen so have read quite a few of hers. I also like Elizabeth Gaskell, author of Cranford, North and South, and others.

I also like to read Christian books (non-fiction) and some of my favorite authors are Jerry Bridges, Elyse Fitzpatrick, Elizabeth George, and Nancy Leigh DeMoss.

I like Christian biographies. It is such an encouragement to see how others have navigated the Christian life.

I also like older Christian fiction by Francena H. Arnold, Grace Livingston Hill, and Isabella Alden.

I've enjoyed Elizabeth George, the mystery writer, very much. I also like Sue Grafton and have read her alphabet murder novels up to "J". I like mysteries and am open to finding new authors. I don't particularly like "cozy" novels, though.

I also like books by Miss Read. I've read all her Thrush Green series but haven't read any Fairacre yet.

Favorite Movies

I am a big fan of classic movies. My favorite movie is Casablanca. I never get tired of seeing it! I like movies from the 30's and 40's. My favorite actors are Jimmy Stewart, Humphrey Bogart, Cary Grant, Barbara Stanwyck and the like. Really anything before the 70's.

I also like some newer movies including The Hobbit, and The Lord of the Rings. I like dramas the best; movies that are more character-driven than plot-driven.

I'm not a big fan of comedies.

Favorite Television

I love Masterpiece Theatre. Especially their Classic and Mystery programs. I really, really like a lot of the BBC shows. Some of my favorites: Grantchester, Call the Midwife, Downton Abbey, etc. They are so much better than American TV programs.

The main thing I watch in the fall/winter is NFL football. Fly, Eagles, Fly!

Favorite Crafts

I like to make greeting cards using rubber stamps. I would say that is the main "paper" thing that I do. I have done some flip books, ATCs, Pocket Letters, and postcards.

Any kind of scrapbook and rubber stamping supplies are always making their way into my home. Craft stores are a dangerous place for me!!

I am use a Happy Planner!

Food and Drink

I am a big Dr. Pepper fan but am really trying to cut back. I enjoy herbal teas and all the wonderful flavors. I guess my favorites are the berry family: raspberry and strawberry. I also like hot cocoa.

I like all kinds of food especially Mexican and Italian. My favorite snacks are crunchy kind but I do like a little chocolate now and then. ;-) My favorite candy is Reese's pieces or something sweet and sour.

I don't like anything with watermelon in it or the watermelon smell.

What I Don't Like

I really don't like anything with skulls or devils on them/nothing satanic. Not really into Halloween either unless it's vintage stuff like black cats and pumpkins. Nothing scary and no witches.

I don't really like too much scent on things either unless it's citrus-y.

I am looking for:

Planner stickers

Ephemera especially Christian ones--pages from prayer books, children's books, and hymnals.

Illustrations from old readers of the 40's-60's.

Vintage/old time embroidery patterns.

Anything related to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Comment: Elaine- I am SO sorry that I am just now rating you for this swap. I had dog sitters at my house a few times earlier this year and they got my mail. Well, I thought they had put all of my mail in one spot - turns out, they put a stack of mail in a basket that I never look at. Since I had a huge stack of mail when I got home, I never even thought to look anywhere else for mail. I was doing a deep clean this weekend and looked in the basket and found a stack of mail from February! I was so shocked! Your swap was found in the stack of mail. Thank goodness there weren't any bills in there! Thank you so, so much for the adorable card. It is SO CUTE! Again, I am SO SORRY!! I just feel awful.
Response: It's not a problem; those things happen. And yes, it's good no bills were in there. Thanks so much for rating and the heart!

Comment: I looked up your recommendation and it does sound like a promising read. The outline of the book reminds me of Tessa Afshar who writes of women from the Bible and really brings out the history of Jewish people as well as Christian. Thank you very much!

EnjoyingLifeAlways on Jan 1, 2017:

Hello Elaine, I hope that you and your family had a wonderful Chrismas and may you all have a wonderful New Year.

And my Soul shall be joyful in the Lord... Psalm 35:9

May the God of hope fill you with joy and peace so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit... Romans 15:3

I love both those verses . I have found that in my life and it took way too long to figure out that when I let God be God and stopped trying so hard to be happy and instead just go to him, share with him my troubles and then rest in him, that I began to truly feel joy in my life. It did not come overnight.

He taught me to slow down, to take smaller steps , to breathe more, to trust in the process when my children were young and medically fragile (my twins were born very premature 17 years ago) , and later to do it again for my own health, which took trust to a different level.

He teaches me how to use the gifts he has given me, the fruits of the spirit, When I begin to take for granted and grow too comfortable, he teaches me how to move into my comfort zone.

When I cry and think I reached my breaking point he whispers in my ear and reminds me that I am His and that he has my hand, he promises me that He won't let go. All of these things and much more than words can ever express has led me to feel joy in my life.

He is leading me to see the invisible false fortress around me.

I now can feel joy so much more than I ever thought possible but it is still just a tiny sliver of what waits for me when I go Home and live with Him.

Thank you for letting me share. I apologize for getting this out to you so late.

In Him, Angela

CSG~Fruit of the Spirit~Patience

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. Isaiah 40:31

Patience? We have to wait in life, the question is what do we do while we wait? Do we dwell on how long it is taking, do we focus on something unrelated (read while waiting in line), or do we spend time in prayer renewing our strength. We are spinning our wheels, letting life runaway with us. When we stop and refocus on God, He helps us off the Merry-Go-Round and we are at peace. Spending time with God prepares us for the battles of life; we are not equipped to fight alone. We must wait for God's reinforcements. Instead of questioning God I should be like the father who spoke to Jesus, Lord I believe, help thou my unbelief ( Mark 9:24)
