About Me

My real name is Alison. I'm married to a great guy and work full-time outside the home. I have 3 kids (girl 12, boy 5, boy 3).
My favourite hobby is sewing. I have been sewing for 20 years. I love to make bags, skirts, shirts, things for my kids etc.

I also love to bake. My kids love it when I bake cookies and brownies for them.

3 of us at our home are very allergic to cats and dogs (and other animals too).

Favorite Music

Country. My favourite country music is Sugarland, Rascal Flatts, George Straight, Keith Urban, Darius Rucker, Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler I do listen to all types of music though (except Jazz)

Favorite Books

My favourite book of all time is To Kill a Mockingbird. I love mystery books and chic lit too. Heck I'll read pretty much anything except sci-fi and fantasy. Nothing against those genres, I just don't really enjoy those types of books. I love home decorating, sewing and quilting magazines and books.

Favorite Television

Project Runway, Project Runway Canada, Criminal Minds, CSI, Desperate Housewives, Harper's Island, Cold Case

Favorite Crafts

Sewing tops the list for me. I love to make bags, skirts, blankets, tops for me and my kids, pj pants for everyone, pin cushions etc. I've made a few stuffies too. I've also tried knitting - I like it but I've only made scarves. I've caught the quilting bug. I made a quilted tablerunner and I love the look of it! I also have a doll quilt on my list for my niece. I also like making cards.

Favourite Colours

I like blues, greens, pink, purple, brown, black, orange, - pretty much every colour - except yellow. A touch of yellow is ok.

Things I like/don't like

I have a fabric addiction. My fabric is stashed in 4 different areas of the house, as I keep running out of room. I keep telling myself I can't buy more fabric, but then I find a fabric I love and it's on sale - so how can I not buy it!

For an idea of some of the colours and patterns I'm drawn to some of my favourite fabric designers are Valori Wells, Jennifer Paganelli, Amy Butler, Anna Maria Horner, Amy Schimler. I don't like the huge roses that some of these designers use though.

I don't like animal prints.

I love bags - totebags, handbags etc. I've made a few over the years for myself and others. I like handmade bags the best! It's an addiction too!

I love ribbons and buttons - not quite an addiction yet, but close! - Ok it's an addiction now too - every time I go anywhere that sells buttons or ribbons I have to check them out.

Milk chocolate

Gardening - every year I make my veggie garden bigger. In 2010 I plan to add another flower garden.

Trying new recipes for dinner and new baking recipes.

Crafting with my kids. My daughter is learning to sew and made her brothers and two cousins pj pants for Christmas. All 3 kids love to make bracelet and necklaces.

I love Christmas - the giving of gifts, putting up the tree, watching my kid's faces on Christmas morning, going to church on Christmas eve and reading the Christmas story to my kids on Christmas eve. I love the magic of the season - how everyone is so much kinder and thoughtful of others. I love it when the kids get it that it's not about the getting of gifts, but the feeling of giving.

I love Christmas ornaments and am particularly fond of handmade Christmas ornaments.

I love candles - pretty much any scent - my favourites are cinnamon, melon, sugar cookie

Hot chocolate in the winter, iced tea in the summer

I love all seasons - Summer for the heat, swimming, fresh garden veggies, flowers, vacation, iced tea - Fall for the pretty colours on the trees, the cooler days, the crisp smell of a fall day - Winter for the sledding, snow, snow people, skating, scarves, hot chocolate - Spring for the greening grass, trees budding, flowers beginning to grow and bloom, the smell of fresh cut grass

I like to collect fabric, buttons, ribbons and bags.

I love handmade things. I love the one of a kind feel of a handmade item. I love the thought that goes into making something handmade for someone or purchasing something handmade for someone.

Comment: Hello Alison! I loved the mitten ornament you sent me, it is lovely! I especially like that you left the mitten open so I can put a candy cane in it for my niece at Christmas. Great swap! Thanks!

Comment: Oh! I don't know how will I do to refrain myself from opening your gifts sooner than what I'm supposed to! I guess I'll give it to my mom and ask her to hide them, as she did when I was a child ;)

Comment: Thank you for the great recipes, recipe cards, and maple leaf cookie cutter! Is there a specific type of maple syrup I should use for these cookies?
Response: I've only ever used real maple syrup - light colour since my uncle has a maple syrup business and that is what he gives me. However I would think any real maple syrup would be ok. I don't know how the recipe would turn out with Aunt Jemima or other syrups like that.
