I forgot to post a swap for banned books week. So let's do a banned books MONTH!! :)

During the month of October, keep a list of titles and authors of books you've read or listened to that are on a Banned Books List. You can use any list you wish - there are lots online. Minimum is ONE banned book for the month.

When the month is over, send your partner a list of the Banned Books you've read - or re-read - during the month of October. List at least one you really enjoyed and would recommend to others. You can send this in a letter, a notecard, postalette, even a post card, if you have enough room.

No need to find why the book is banned, but if you can find the information and wish to share it, feel free to.

This link is from Wikipedia and includes the reasons for the challenge. Of the list, I think my absolute favorite listed is the Bible being challenged for religious views. I mean, what do you expect? That always cracks me up. If you're looking for suggestions, I always go with Judy Blume or Norma Klein - Klein is hard to find, but they were eye-opening YA novels back in the 90's.

Another recommendation - Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D Taylor. I LOVE this book. It's heart wrenching, but the characters come to life so much, and it's part of a series that is excellent. My kids first listened to this book when they were about a year old, and my daughter says this was the first book that came to life for her and made her want to read - and she wanted Cassie as a friend! :)

I just ordered, "The Hate U Give." I hope to get to at least two titles this month.
