Description:

For this swap you will be making a set of at least 5 paper beads for your partner. One of the beads must be a big one - a bead that could be used as a focal piece. The size is up to the sender but it should differ from the other four beads! The beads are sender's choice but it never hurts to look at your send-to partner's profile. :)

Any technique is fine, but the beads must be durable (varnished / otherwise treated to last). There are a lot of instructions available in the net, look here for an example (the blog is not mine) : http://gomakesomething.com/ht/recycled/paper-beads/

Swappers must have at least 4.9 rating, no unexplained 1's or 3's and no overdue swaps on their board. Swappers must have completed at least 5 swaps and have them rated to join - e-mail swaps do NOT count. I will be checking participants carefully and will remove from the swap anyone I find questionable. All flakers will be reported. I angel all the swaps I host, provided that the flaking party has been rated a 1 and they are not trying to make it right with a resend.

Please send out a good-quality swap with items you would like to receive. Remember to include your Swap-bot username and the swap name in the package. Pack the items carefully to avoid them from being damaged during the mailing process.

And last but not least: Have fun!!

How do you make paper beads? I would love to see some!

Thank you

Porsha

Oh by the way... in that tutorial she says to coat the beads with some special ultra thick embossing enamel, but I know some people use nail polish instead. If you have a clear or glittery nail polish around maybe try that if you don't have that embossing enamel!

That is absolutely true, Charophyta! You do not need UTEE to make paper beads. I have used my regular matte and glossy varnish because I don't know where to get UTEE here. I apply many layers so that the beads become hard and shiny.

I'll try to make a link for you, PorshaH, let's see if it works: [Make paper beads http://gomakesomething.com/ht/recycled/paper-beads]

There are also several videos in Youtube, for example. Googling "How to make paper beads" or "making paper beads" will bring you many results!

I have been wanting to try this craft for a while and I know if I join this swap I'll finally get around to it! But there's not a lot of time and I'm in a bunch of swaps already... would you extend the dates a little? :) I think I'll go ahead and join it but it would be easier with some more time :)

Thank you ladies for the link and helpful info. I won't be joining this one, because I didn't check it out yet. I'm sure there will be more of these, or I'll create my own.

Thank you

Porsha

On request, I have extended the dates a bit! Now everyone will have a bit more time to work on the beads. I also extended the sign-up date for a few days - come join the fun :)

charophyta 01/23/2012 #

Thanks for extending the dates on this swap and for posting the link to your lovely beads!!

For those interested in other ways to seal beads than UTEE, I have used a coat of Diamond Glaze, which looks comparable to the embossing enamel. When I want a more natural look but added durability, I seal with a coat of Mod Podge or Gel Medium and seal with 2 layers of spray sealer. Love making paper beads!
