Description:

I am a big fan of Alma Stoller's zines and blog. She had pictured a yarn (included laces, ribbons, yarns, etc.) ball that she had put together a few years back. She shows an example of knitting with this selfmade yarn.

In this swap you will make a yarn and other materials "ball". Think of things like lace, ribbons, all types of yarns and other trims. Maybe some fabric scraps cut into strips. Let's use up some of the small scraps we have. Your ball should have at least 10 yards of materials and I won't put an exact number on how many different types of materials you should have but let's try to use as many as possible.

This should be fairly inexpensive to mail so I will keep it open to international players.

Take at look at this: http://almastoller.typepad.com/almastoller/2008/02/knitting-into-t.html

As it says on most other swaps, you should have at least a 4.7 and no 1's in the past 3 months.

Newbies with complete profiles welcome.

Since this should not be expensive we will each have 2 partners. That is you will send one yarn ball to 2 people.

I will review profiles and ratings and ban as needed.

This is fun. I just tied together ribbons, yarns, lace and things and it went very fast. I do not knit or crochet and my sewing skills are limited but I intend to use my balls as decorations on journals and other things.

This is a neat idea. I've done it myself and made two cool shawls with the yarn.

Can we suggest a color scheme?

I've actually just tried starting. It was pretty fun, except its terribly terribly tough to color-coordinate yet have a variety of materials T_T

I will also use the materials as decorations rather than knitting.

This sounds amazing, I think I'll go try it right now.

I crochet a lot, so I'll have to see if there's something I can crochet with only 10 yards. If not then I'll be using it to decorate things as well.

Well 10 yards can be a start.

If possible I'd prefer autumn colors, or blues, or pink white and reds, or pinks. I like bright colors, and earth colors (but no brown) like sage and copper. I don't care for yellow except in combination with red and orange. Purple is good too, or a combination of blue and purple.
