Description:

I participated in a swap like this a couple years ago & thought it was so cool.

For this swap, go to mapenvelope.com and follow the instructions. It will create a map envelope with your location on it, just as if you searched google maps. Then print it out and fold it into an envie. As @FarStarr pointed out, the folded envelope is just a bit too small to send through the mail. I apologize for the confusion. Here's what we'll do:

  • Enclose the finished envie inside of another, mail-able size envelope, along with one of the items from the list below and send it to your partner. Important: Fold the envelope so the map with your location is on the outside.

~OR~ * * * * * * * * * *

  • Glue the map envie to the outside of another piece of paper/ephemera (again, with the map on the outside) and fold that into a mail-able sized envelope. (You will probably have to use an address label so the post can read it.) Enclose an item from below and send it to your partner.

Please choose 1 of the following items to put in the envelope for your partner:

  • handmade postcard, unwritten so your partner can use it

  • 4 artistamps, (don't have to be made by you)

  • 2 new postage stamps - postcard or forever (not cancelled ones)

  • a smaller, handmade envelope for your partner to use

  • a mail-art-related ATC

  • 5 airmail labels (from any country)

  • 10 used postage stamps

If your partner is in a different country, you probably won't want to send unused postage since they can't use it in their country.

Usual swap rules apply. I'll check profiles before assigning partners. PM me with any questions.

This is an awesome swap, but I'm worried the mailman's gonna be confused with the little speech ballon with my address...

iLoveMail 09/14/2012 #

If I remember correctly, the speech bubble ends up on the envelope flap once its folded. It worked fine the last time we did this swap :)

FarStarr 09/17/2012 #

Hey Alfie, My envelope is coming out tiny...only 4 1/2 by 3. Am I missing something?

iLoveMail 09/19/2012 #

Sorry for not responding sooner! Umm, I'll check it out. When we did this swap before, I could've sworn they were mailable size. I'll post first thing in the moring.

FarStarr 09/19/2012 #

I tried again on a different computer/printer combo. From that one I could increase the print size, but then it didn't fit on the page. I'll try one more time tonight.

iLoveMail 09/19/2012 #

Okay, its 4.5x3.25 inches, just under the smallest mail-able size. Sorry ladies! I'm going to edit the swap. Thanks for the heads up @FarStarr

janicemarie 09/20/2012 #

So I'm in Australia and we don't have the same minimum sizes as you guys. The envelope as it is is completely within our regulations. Does that mean I can just send it as originally planned?

iLoveMail 09/20/2012 #

That's fine with me @janicemarie but will it be delivered once in the US? You might want to just go ahead & choose one of the options above, just to be safe. Otherwise, make sure your partner doesn't mind (once they're assigned).

Conelmateenlaizquierda 09/20/2012 #

Since we fold it for the map to be on the outside, we have to decide if the speech balloon or the map on the back are upside down...what should we do?

janicemarie 09/20/2012 #

@ilovemail Well with luck I'll get you and we can do an experiment! i'll send it both ways and we'll find out if it works.

iLoveMail 09/21/2012 #

The speech balloon will be upside down :/ There's no way around it unless its made into an envelope liner. Sorry again!

hollycm6 09/21/2012 #

Mine printed REALLY small :-( and my speech bubble didn't print white!! Just the corners are white and the address is hard to read, on top of the map photo . ..

iLoveMail 09/21/2012 #

The normal size it should print is 4.5x3.25 inches (too small to send as an outer envie :( Is there something up with your printer @hollycm6 ? :)

I apologize for all the issues with this map envelope; I didn't think it would be so much trouble!

FarStarr 09/23/2012 #

I had issues like @hollycm6 when I was using IE. The suggestion on the print page said to try FireFox. The speech bubble works on FireFox, but the size is still small.

This swap involves creating a map envelope with my location on it and sending it along with a chosen item to your partner.

Thank you for sharing with my location
