Description:

MAKE 1 ART (ICICLE SHAPED) DOLL for your 1 PARTNER. I would luv to do a series of Icicle Doll Swaps & I hope you will all Join & Enjoy making and collecting!!! I like to make myself one of each swap also (for my collection)!
These look really nice to display, I like hanging them on hooks under shelves or on a mini clothes line in my studio.... or on a Christmas TREE!!!! They can be really creative too... and have different themes (For the month or holiday in that month) or you can do a profile based theme for your partner....Sender's choice... but please read you partner's profile and try not to send a color or something they say they don't like.
1.) It is easy to make a pattern from a piece of copy paper (you can get 2 patterns out of a sheet of 8 1/2 X 11 1/2" paper....1 to keep & 1 to share!!! ;-) You will also need a ruler, pen and scissors to make it. The pattern will basically be a triangle. BEGIN by turning the paper to its horizontal format so it is eleven inches across the TOP and eight and a half inches down, (So it will be wider than it is high)...Fold it in half across the top and cut it in half along the fold so you will have 2 sheets that are 5 1/2 X 8 1/2". Then fold that in half the long way so the size will be 2 3/4" by 8 1/2". Now draw a line with your ruler to cut by from the edge of the paper at the fold to the edge where the two top corners meet. So when you open up the folded paper you will have a triangle roughly 5 1/2" across the top with the two long sides being 9 inches. This is your pattern to cut out your fabric to make the doll out of.

2.) Sew with 1/4" SEAM ALLOWANCE so the body of the doll will turn out roughly (EDITED TO SAY 9) inches long and around 2 inches wide when sewn together and stuffed. WE WILL NOT BE STRICT ABOUT THE FINISHED SIZE OF DOLLS.Because fringe/ hair/ feathers/ribbons/Lace, etc... will be added (Sewn in or glued ) Across the top for her hair.

3.) Also a hanger of some type should be added at the top in any manner you choose for hanging (And again you can get creative like ribbon, crocheted, needlepoint, cord, wire, beaded, etc;-)

4.) You may also get creative on the body with painting, appliques, quilted material or stripes, ric rac, lace, buttons, pins, necklaces, charms, embroidery, trim, anything!!!! I luv pockets with surprises!!! ;-) These can be really fun and creative!!!

5.) You may also include a "TAIL" of fringe or tassle at the bottom! (Looks really nice) ....

6.) And don't forget the matter of the FACE! This is usually the first thing I tackle along with the choice of material...You can get so creative here too!!!! I have applied muslin with stamped faces before, or embroidered, painted, printed out faces on fabric paper or u can glue on clay faces or metal or button faces and trim them any way you like! The top of the dolls don't have to be straight, you may curve or slope them. Feel free to have total creativity. Just be sure it is in an icicle shape. This is the difference between ICICLES & DOTTIES...

7.) Stuff & send with luv & well wishes!
I have made mermaids with sequined scales and tails and fairies & angels with wings....Get creative!!!! Please join & Enjoy! This swap is USA only Please to help with postage.

EDITED: FYI: I also use a fine tip sharpie pen to write on the back of the doll: the doll's name, my user name and the YEAR. You may do the same to the ones you make or receive.

These were featured in ClothPaperScissors magazine or Somerset - I'll try to find a link. In the meantime, here is some eye candy:
