Description:

For this swap, you will make one DIPTYCH for one partner. A diptych is any object with two flat plates attached at a hinge.

For the purpose of this swap, each participant will make 2 ATCs that are matched together by design. You may choose to hinge your ATCs, or leave them unhinged for ease of shipping. The decision is up to the artist.

Each piece should be sturdy and 2.5 X 3.5 inches in size. The theme is artist's choice, however please be creative and make something strange, unusual or whimsical for your partner that you would love to include in your own collection.

Have fun and feature some of your AMAZING paper stash.

When you say we can hinge them, in what manner are you thinking? Can we, for example, use a paper that is 2 ATCs wide and fold it so the fold is the hinge? I expect the two facing portions are the portions that should be decorated, right?

Also, this should be type 3. :)

Just to clarify...we make 2 ATC for one person and they have to be a matching theme? Or do they actually have to fit together?

user2637 and tigermousecat, thank you for your questions. Technically they are to be hinged with a separate material (ie: tulle or washi tape or some other easily bendable piece), however I would mind if we folded the paper in half as the hinge. This is something new and I'd like to let you experiment. And, yes, the two cards need to match up where they "hinge" make a complete picture. Could be two different themes that meet perfectly in the middle. Might be an interesting twist to the usual diptych. =D

OOps... However I would NOT mind if we folded the sturdy paper in half. (Just make the fold precise. I've made it perforated with my Fiskars paper trimmer blade to help the fold work better and used the bone folder on the crease.) The end result will be like having two ATC's that fold open to reveal one over-sized ATC: 7' x 2.5" or 5" x 3.5"

I made mine this way... two ATC size cut from cereal boxes. Placed them close together with a gap to allow folding. Taped them together using two long strips of washi tape to make two separate "hinges". Then made my full sized art and cut into two pieces to match the ATC sizes and glued over top of the Washi taped side. On the back glued some other paper to cover the other side of the (cereal box) ATC... all the while making certain they would fold flat.

Hope this helps. I've had friends use tulle or a thin paper for the "hinge". Keep in mind you don't have to hinge the two ATC's they just need to become one larger picture when placed next to each other.

Let me know if you need more info!

HAPPY CREATING! Laurie
