Description:

It's time to head back to school. That means that if you took the summer to vacation instead of write ... to hang out with the kids and friends instead of write ... to clean your home instead of write ... or even to do research instead of write, now is the time to get back to the business of actively writing.

This is the third time for this swap and this year, we're returning to the original format.

This swap is U.S.A. due solely to postage concerns. International officers: please feel free to copy for your country. I'll link to it.

Back to School...er Writing with a Twist involves several components. You will send one partner each of the following:

  • a backpack, tote bag, messenger bag or other closeable sack with a handle

  • a minimum of 5 back-to-school supplies (i.e. package of index cards, clips, binders, pens, pencils, etc.) Work those back-to-school sales!

  • an article or a reading about writing -- the kind your partner does. If your partner is an essayist, the reading should pertain to that; a poet, it should be on poetry; etc. This can be anything from a photocopied article, to a magazine or book. Sender's choice, but it must relate to your partners' writing. Remember, we have a lot of different types of writers in the group. POST BELOW THE TYPE OF WRITING YOU DO.

  • a profile surprise

  • a letter (here's the twist) about either:

a) your own favorite back-to-school or school-time memory.

OR

b) the writing you did -- or thought about doing -- over the summer.

Tuck all of the components (you'll be sending a minimum total of 9 items including the tote) into the bag/tote and send to your partner.

Snail mail. U.S. only. Group membership.

Discussion

I am writing fiction: mystery novels and Amish-themed/based novels.

I am currently writing a novel about Wales during the 12th Century, my main character is an herbal healer. Other than that I write alliterative poetry, old dictionaries are always a source of inspiration, and fractured fairy tales, there is one posted on my profile page.

I'm retired and having a great time wiriting just about every kind of thing, poetry, fiction, essay (no genre anything), I welcome solid articles about writing skills that I can pass on to students who are aiming to write memoirs.

BY THE WAY: This sounds like a swap that will be just right for a Priority Flat Rate envelope or box. These come with tracking and insurance and are delivered usually in 2 or 3 days in the US. Often cost less than first class and/or parcel post.
