Description:

I love to look at the art journals, letters, likes and dislikes, etc. of others. This swap is going to be a compilation of things...our own little hodgepodge journal, if you will. Be prepared for a lot of writing by hand, it's much more personal than typing things up and printing them out!

First, get a journal/notebook that you find to be pretty or interesting or cute, at least 5.5x8" in size, but bigger may be better. Make sure it's thick enough for the challenge! No plain composition books or solid colors here please. Make it something nice to look at.

Next, prepare for the swap. This isn't one type of journal, thus the "hodgepodge"! We will include:

LIKES:

  1. Pick 35 songs that you love to listen to, write out the name of the song, the lyrics, and who sings the version you love. Maybe there are 6 remakes...what is YOUR favorite version? If you can, write why you enjoy the song/what it means to you, though this isn't a requirement. Maybe it's just something cheerful to listen to!

  2. Pick at least 20 quotes that you find happy or inspirational, write them out, and include who said it.

  3. Include 3-5 poems that you like. Write them out. Who are the authors?

  4. If you could travel anywhere in the world and money was no object, where would you go? What would you do?

DISLIKES:

  1. Tell us, list style, some foods you dislike, bands you hate to listen to, books you didn't care for.

  2. What are your fears/phobias? Why?

  3. Are there smells you can't stand? What are the reasons?

  4. Do you have any health or mental health issues? Tell us about them here, though no graphic details...tell us what you'd like to about the challenges of living with it. What sucks?

Please spend some time on this swap. Leave enough space between your entries so that they are easily read. Try to include some decoration here and there....this isn't an art journal, but even placing some stickers or washi here and there will make it more interesting and pleasant to look at. No, you don't have to decorate every page. Yes, 1 or 2 stickers on a page are fine. Just break it up a little, make it nice to look through!

You will have 1 month to complete this. Journals will be sent in a padded envelope of appropriate size, first class or Priority, to protect them better should something like a rip or rain happen to the envelope.

Are the 35 songs all in the front or can the entries be mixed up?

ladywolfsong 03/ 5/2018 #

@jandmterry I think mixing things up is fine and could keep things interesting, though labeling them "song 2", "song 3", etc could help both you and your partner know there are 35 there. I do think it would be better to keep the likes in the first half and the dislikes in the 2nd half though!

I'd love to join this but I'm hosting a concurrent, time intensive journal swap right now. Do you think you'd do something like this again in the future?

Leekoba 03/ 6/2018 #

Can we make our own journal? Or it must be storebought?

ladywolfsong 03/ 6/2018 #

@bombardiette I would love to do something similar in the future, depending on how this one goes!

@Leekoba this time around please use storebought. They don't have to cost a lot, but it's better to standardize than have disappointments in quality from some who may not be as talented.

Really thinking of joining this one...Can we use a composition book and decorate it on the outside?

ladywolfsong 03/12/2018 #

@melsanchez yes, you can use a composition book. Please use one that is nicely pre-decorated, though you can add a few embellishments
