Description:

This swap is a copy another swap in another group by wolfeagle. Wolfeagle is the founder of Fantastic Art Dolls and comes up with some of the neatest ideas for making dolls. She posted a swap that looked fun which sent me to the thrift store to find a base. While shopping I found all sorts of things that would make great bases for Oaxaca style art. I also found wooden painted Oaxaca fish. I'm just going to cut and paste part of the other swap's description because wolfeagle is much better at writing swaps than I am. She gave me permission to copy her swap.

This swap is to create some kind of Mexican Folk Art for your partner with some thing you found at the thrift store. Your piece must be at least 5 inches, and please sign your figure somewhere.

You can not just send a completed figure that you have purchased...you must paint your own creation. You may use any type of base you like it does not have to be wood. I'm using the word figure because it does not have to be an animal it could be a sunface or something like that. I have oaxaca sand dollars that are painted with suns and moons.

The swap photo has an example of turning a thrift store figure into a piece of folk art. The poor guy had been broken and repaired so it was turned from one group's folk art into another group's art.

These are simple, but they can be time consuming... as layers usually need to dry in between layers. So make sure to give yourself enough time to make/paint/dry/seal your project. The choice of animal, the style, and colors, and even mediums are all your choice. You can use others mediums in addition to paint.

Examples.

Please take your time to create a nice piece of artwork. If you're going to be late let your partner know and please rate promptly after receiving your swap.

I'm still on the hunt for a good wooden animal to paint - still no luck. They are either too heavy, too big or too flat. Hopefully I'll find the right one and will join!

I have one but don't like it, I need to look farther.
