Description:

This is the first in a series of short writing exercise swaps.

For this first swap you are going to "set the scene" for a story.

Write a short piece, about 500-600 words minimum (about one page typed), describing the setting and the scene. Your focus will be describing what you see.

Think of it as a "data dump" of information, or as a world-building exercise. You're going to write it as if you are writing a scene for a story, but you'll only be describing the location, the setting, the weather or season, the time of day, etc.

No character descriptions, limited dialogue is okay if it helps you move, but keep it simple and non-descript.

The whole point of this exercise is to get your brain churning and thinking. This is to help you with description of setting.

You will then send your short piece to your partners via post (no emails).

You must be a member of the Write Now group to participate. If you're not a member, come on by and join us.

If something comes up and you find you won't be able to send, please let me and your partners know as soon as you can.

Future swap exercises will include character descriptions and dialogue writing. If you have other ideas for writing exercises, drop me a PM.

I just love being asked to write anything, I'm joining. Wish we had more and more writing swaps of various sorts.
