Description:

The first round of this swap was such a blast I plan to keep hosting this swap on a monthly basis. It is a perfect meditative project to work on when your brain needs a break!

I've been thinking about making a textile amulet ever since I saw Ann Wood's post on accidental amulets on her blog. They are textile-based amulets sewn with fabric scraps, fiber bits and bobs, and maybe even a found object, beads, or charm or two.
They are a great way to experiment with mixing color, texture, and techniques onto a mini "canvas" that can be worn or displayed.

For this swap you will make 1 textile amulet for your partner. Due to their freeform & experimental nature I won't give exact dimensions, but should in general be about the size of a gift tag, but not much larger than a standard playing card/ATC (2.5 x 3.5 in/6.35 x 8.9 cm).
To keep in the spirit of the project I won't require any specific embellishments, amounts of textiles or fibers, or techniques, but I encourage you to make you partner an amulet that you would be proud to wear or display!

If you are on the fence about joining this swap, need clarification, or think it requires a few more rules please reach out. I am looking to improve it to make it more accessible to all members. As with all of our swaps here at N&T this swap is explicitly open to all skill levels!

This swap is an international swap. It is a relatively small/flat swap so sending costs should be low!

Swap Requirements:

  • You will make 1 textile amulet for 1 partner
  • The textile amulet should meet the size requirements mentioned above
  • The textile amulet can be in any shape the maker desires (ex. square, rectangle, trapazoid, circle, oval, etc.)
  • While this is a sender's choice swap, feel free to go through your partner's profile to get an idea of their likes/preferences
  • The textile amulet must have some type of fixture to attach it to a chain/cord or be displayed by the receiver.
  • I ask that you please be cognizant of using any symbols that are blatant cultural appropriation. I know this is a complex topic, but in general avoid sacred, "tribal", or Indigenous symbols and designs if you are not of that culture. Be creative!

If you have any questions please drop them in the comment section below or send me a PM via SB.

Happy making!
