Hello Folks! I am finally, albeit slowly getting back on board swapping now that most of my crafting materials have finally arrived! I hope to get back into the swing of things so I don't get too much cabin fever this winter!
Hello hello Everyone!
My name is Megan and I live in the lovely & historic Cambridge, MA. I just moved here to work as a research fellow at Harvard and I am very excited to explore my new city! I grew up, went to school, and had lived my entire life in Minnesota up until now, so I still hold MN dearly in my heart!
I identify as non-binary (and SUPER gay), and I use they/their/theirs pronouns, thank you!
I am a full-time Research Fellow at Harvard University and work with functional apparel design and soft robotics.
I tend to keep pretty busy between work, sewing & art projects, exploring my surroundings, and cooking & baking. I always look forward to mail in my mailbox, it gives me a little extra "pep" after a long day!
My musical tastes are pretty eclectic, but I really enjoy the following genres
Folk, Alternative Folk, Rock n' Roll, Metal, Bluegrass, some Country, some Pop/Top 40, Rap, Hip-Hop, R&B, and Soundtracks.
Current favorite bands/artists include:
Ralph Vaughan Williams - Bastille - Panic! at the Disco - O.C.M.S - Andrew Bird - Saint Motel - Beach Boys - Gregory Alan Isakov - Metallica - Hans Zimmer - Alexandre Desplat - Johnny Cash - David Bowie - Johnny Cash - The Clancy Brothers -The Avalanches - Miike Snow
I'm also going to include some Podcasts in here! I've just started really getting into them more and more since i've started college fo my commute! I enjoy the following podcasts:
Stuff You Should Know - Stuff You Missed in History Class - Stuff They Don't Want You To Know - Sawbones - My Brother, My Borhter, and Me - Wonderful! - Judge John Hodgman - The Stuff of Life - The Memory Palace - RISK! - Welcome to Nightvale
I don't read as much as I should, but I hope to remedy this with my somewhat expanded "free" time.
Books/series I have enjoyed however include:
Faceless Killers (Wallander Series) - The Redbreast (Harry Hole Series) - The Martian - The Bourne Trilogy - Hawkeye (2012 Comics) - Secret Avengers (Comics) - Edgar Allan Poe (Poetry/Short Stories) - Aesop Fables - Grimm Fairytales - those old Star Trek (TOS) books - Harry Potter - One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - The Great Gatsby
I'm a sucker for practically anything with Leonardo Dicaprio or Matt Damon, I just can't help myself. I also really dig psychological thrillers, war films (especially WWI/II), and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (pre-Age of Ultron).
Favorite movies/series include:
The Grand Budapest Hotel - Submarine - Star Trek (TOS & Reboots) - The Martian - Moonrise Kingdom - Star Wars (4-6, TFA) - Valiant - Saving Private Ryan - Jacob's Ladder - The Ninth Configuration - Atlantis: The Lost Empire - The Road to El Dorado - Reservoir Dogs - Inglourious Basterds - Marvel Cinematic Universe (Pre-Age of Ultron) - Batman (1960's to Present I love them all) - The Fantastic Mr. Fox - Top Gun - Fight Club
Personally I believe I probably watch too much television, but mostly because it provides me with some background noise while i'm working on projects.
Favorite TV shows include:
Person of Interest - The X-Files - Twin Peaks - True Detective (s1) - Archer - Marvel's Daredevil - House MD - Star Trek (TOS) - Futurama - Drunk History - News Radio - Emergency! - WKRP Cincinnati - Sirens - The Regular Show - BoJack Horseman - The Office (US) - Bob's Burgers - Psych - Parks & Recreation - Mad Men - Portlandia - The Venture Bros. - It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - Avatar: The Last Airbender - Arrested Development - The Great British Bake Off - Last Week Tonight
I dabble in a lot of crafts and love to challenge myself with new mediums. As a designer and lifelong crafter I am always looking for something new to try out and incorporate into mixed media and art wear garments. I'm a member of the Weavers Guild of Minnesota and am the proud owner of a small rigid headle loom!
Favorite mediums/methods include:
sewing - embroidery - needle art - weaving - fiber art - drawing - jewelry making - origami - mixed media - sculpting - doll making - painting - print making - (rubber) stamp making - diy screen printing - etc.
I love sending out and receiving things here on Swap-Bot, but I believe it shouldn't be super stressful to those swapping with me. Below is a list of items I like/dislike so you can get a good feel of me & my interests.
I love getting fun postcards, and while I don't mind touristy ones I really love receiving the following:
I prefer postcards to be sent naked unless specified in the swap guidelines!
For tea I prefer: - Fruity teas (raspberry, pomegranate, and black currant are my favorites) - Herbal teas (chamomile in blends only please!) - Flavored black & green teas - Floral teas - "Woodsy"/"Smokey" teas (especially spruce/evergreen teas) - Surprise me, I love trying new things!
Please no decaffeinated teas!
Please no mint-chocolate flavors, thank you!
My favorite colors include: Blues - Greens - Reds - Purples I typically enjoy bright "happy" looking colors, but I have a major soft spot for neutrals (Tans, Browns, Blacks, Whites, Grays).
As for "themes" I love practically anything regarding birds, deer, space, plants, and nature. I also really enjoy vintage, art deco, art nouveau, retro, industrial, minimalist, and "spooky", Gothic, and macabre themes.
For quilting swaps: 100% cotton textiles please
Prints and colors such as:
I am also always looking for interesting prints and textures for swatches to keep for my design journal and inspiration so if you find something odd or interesting I would love to add it to my collection! Other than that the same prints from above apply to silks, "fashion fabrics", wool (especially wool felt), and assorted mixed fiber textiles.
Comic books! I really want to start collecting the many iterations of X-Files comics from Topps, Windstorm, IDW, etc (publishers). and other misc. comics to read, craft with, and collect
unique sewing/crafting supplies
tarot cards, astrology, pagan, and witchcraft related items **Please make sure none of these items perpetuate cultural appropriation or are related to a closed culture/religion.
anything related to my favorites listed above!
Although I genuinely love whatever I get sent in the mail, I do have a few things i'm not a fan of personally. So, to avoid hurt feelings on either end please avoid sending the following:
Here I will keep ratings & ratings explanations that will be updated on a case-by-case basis.
2018: I am currently up to date in my archive here on SB. Please contact me if you haven't received a rating from me on a swap.
I know this sounds like a "duh" thing to do, but I am taking it upon myself to rate as soon as I get a swap in the mail. I have been a bit slow in the past which makes life disorganized, so this is my pledge to my fellow swappers to hold myself more accountable!
Please contact me about any ratings you have a question about via the swap-bot messenger system.
