About Me

Hello folks! I will be taking a brief break from swap-bot aside from email swaps & finishing up the current swaps I'm in as I am in the process of moving & changing jobs. I will be leaving my beloved Minneapolis for the lively Massachusetts for a one-year research fellows position. I look forward to swapping in the new year! :)

Hello hello Everyone!

My name is Megan and I live in the great, but very chilly state of Minnesota, USA.

I identify as non-binary (and SUPER gay), and I use they/their/theirs pronouns, thank you!

I am a part-time Target employee working as a Starbucks barista & will be starting a research fellows position in the new year (2018).

I keep pretty busy between my jobs, and in my down time I try to spend with friends and attending events in the metro area. I LOVE swapping and receiving and sending mail gives me a little more pep in my step after a long day.

Favorite Music

My musical tastes are pretty eclectic, but I really enjoy the following genres

Folk, Alternative Folk, Rock n' Roll, Metal, Bluegrass, some Country, some Pop/Top 40, some Rap, Hip-Hop, R&B, and Soundtracks.

Current favorite bands/artists include:

Ralph Vaughan Williams - Bastille - Panic! at the Disco - O.C.M.S - Andrew Bird - Saint Motel - Beach Boys - Gregory Alan Isakov - Metallica - Hans Zimmer - Alexandre Desplat - Johnny Cash - David Bowie - Johnny Cash - The Clancy Brothers -The Avalanches - Miike Snow

I'm also going to include some Podcasts in here! I've just started really getting into them more and more since i've started college fo my commute! I enjoy the following podcasts:

I don't read as much as I should, but I hope to remedy this with my somewhat expanded "free" time.

Books/series I have enjoyed however include:

Faceless Killers (Wallander Series) - The Redbreast (Harry Hole Series) - The Martian - The Bourne Trilogy - Hawkeye (2012 Comics) - Secret Avengers (Comics) - Edgar Allan Poe (Poetry/Short Stories) - Aesop Fables - Grimm Fairytales - those old Star Trek (TOS) books - Harry Potter - One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest - The Great Gatsby

Favorite Movies

I'm a sucker for practically anything with Leonardo Dicaprio or Matt Damon, I just can't help myself. I also really dig psychological thrillers, war films (especially WWI/II), and the Marvel Cinematic Universe (pre-Age of Ultron).

Favorite Television

Personally I believe I probably watch too much television, but mostly because it provides me with some background noise while i'm working on projects.

Favorite TV shows include:

Person of Interest - The X-Files - Twin Peaks - True Detective (s1) - Archer - Marvel's Daredevil - House MD - Star Trek (TOS) - Futurama - Drunk History - News Radio - Emergency! - WKRP Cincinnati - Sirens - The Regular Show - BoJack Horseman - The Office (US) - Bob's Burgers - Psych - Parks & Recreation - Mad Men - Portlandia - The Venture Bros. - It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - Avatar: The Last Airbender - Arrested Development - The Great British Bake Off - Last Week Tonight

I'm a member of the Weavers Guild of Minnesota and am the proud owner of a small rigid headle loom!

Favorite mediums/methods include:

sewing - embroidery - needle art - weaving - fiber art - drawing - jewelry making - origami - mixed media - sculpting - doll making - painting - print making - (rubber) stamp making - diy screen printing - etc.

Like, Dislikes, and Wish List

I love sending out and receiving things here on Swap-Bot, but I believe it shouldn't be super stressful to those swapping with me. Below is a list of items I like/dislike so you can get a good feel of me & my interests.

I love getting fun postcards, and while I don't mind touristy ones I really love receiving the following:

  • Fine Art & Museum prints (Esp. Gustav Klimt, Hieronymus Bosch, Francisco Goya & Van Gogh)
  • Art Deco, Retro Futurism, Art Nouveau (Esp. Mucha)
  • Fashion Prints, especially: Alexander McQueen, Paul Poiret, Charles James, Erte (Romain de Tirtoff), Issey Miyake
  • The art of M. C. Escher, Alphonse Mucha, & Renaissance art/sculpture
  • Historical Places & Events

I prefer postcards to be sent naked unless specified in the swap guidelines!

For tea I prefer: - Fruity teas (raspberry, pomegranate, and black currant are my favorites) - Herbal teas (chamomile in blends only please!) - Flavored black & green teas - Floral teas - "Woodsy"/"Smokey" teas (especially spruce/evergreen teas) - Surprise me, I love trying new things!

Please no decaffeinated teas!

Hot Chocolate:

Please no mint-chocolate flavors, thank you!

My favorite colors include: Blues - Greens - Reds - Purples I typically enjoy bright "happy" looking colors, but I have a major soft spot for neutrals (Tans, Browns, Blacks, Whites, Grays).

As for "themes" I love practically anything regarding birds, deer, space, plants, and nature. I also really enjoy vintage, art deco, art nouveau, retro, industrial, minimalist, and "spooky", Gothic, and macabre themes.

For quilting swaps: 100% cotton textiles please

Prints and colors such as:

  • birds, deer, nature - not super "childish" prints though
  • Mushrooms, succulents, plants
  • contemporary/tasteful florals (think Marimekko)
  • triangles & geometric designs
  • hexagons/honeycomb
  • solids in bright, neutral, jewel tone colors

I am also always looking for interesting prints and textures for swatches to keep for my design journal and inspiration so if you find something odd or interesting I would love to add it to my collection! Other than that the same prints from above apply to silks, "fashion fabrics", wool (especially wool felt), and assorted mixed fiber textiles.

  • cryptoquip puzzles! from newspapers or online, I love a good cryptoquip!
  • Crossword puzzles! from newspapers or online, crosswords are my favorite puzzle!
  • Comic books! I really want to start collecting the many iterations of X-Files comics from Topps, Windstorm, IDW, etc (publishers). and other misc. comics to read, craft with, and collect

  • unique sewing/crafting supplies

  • embroidery/needle art supplies
  • wool roving & "chunky" wool yarn
  • interesting patches: vintage, scouting, space, etc.
  • deer related materials (pictures, drawings, physical items, antlers/pieces, etc)
  • bird related materials (pictures, drawings, physical items, please NO bird "parts" unless they are ethically & legally obtained (skulls/bones, feathers, claws/talons, etc.))
  • Fashion magazine cutouts
  • vintage sewing patterns
  • vintage fashion/illustrations
  • recipes & recipe cards
  • Marvel related items (especially Captain America (pre-Nick Spencer, he is GROSS) & Hawkeye related)
  • Movie posters/postcards
  • Vintage propaganda posters, postcards, prints
  • foreign coins and currency
  • catholic Saint/Patron medals, amulets, coins
  • tarot cards, astrology, pagan, and witchcraft related items **Please make sure none of these items perpetuate cultural appropriation or are related to a closed culture/religion.

  • anything related to my favorites listed above!

Although I genuinely love whatever I get sent in the mail, I do have a few things i'm not a fan of personally. So, to avoid hurt feelings on either end please avoid sending the following:

  • Mint-Chocolate flavored foods
  • White Chocolate
  • Foods containing tomatoes
  • Plain green or black tea
  • No "holiday" mascot related items (ex. Santa, snowmen, Easter Bunny, etc.) I don't have use for any of these items since I am secular and have a bit of an aversion to snowmen & Santa (I can't explain it, I just am for some reason??). I do however appreciate things with a more general seasonal theme such as mistletoe & holly, flowers & leaves, etc.

Here I will keep ratings & ratings explanations that will be updated on a case-by-case basis.

Also, if you are missing any ratings from me PLEASE let me know! I lost track of SB for awhile during my final semester at school and I want to make things right if I missed something!

I know this sounds like a "duh" thing to do, but I am taking it upon myself to rate as soon as I get a swap in the mail. I have been a bit slow in the past which makes life disorganized, so this is my pledge to my fellow swappers to hold myself more accountable!

Please contact me about any ratings you have a question about via the swap-bot messenger system.

Comment: I really love the centerfold doodle. Thank you.
Response: I'm glad you enjoy the zine. The centerfold is what determined the theme of my zine and is my favorite doodle of the bunch. I based all the plants off plants that I have in my own home! :)

Comment: Been enjoying your playlist on Spotify! I like the mix of contemporary and older music (I can't call them "oldies," since they was Top 40 when I was a teen)
Response: I'm glad to hear you've enjoyed the playlist! Also, fret not - even I find myself calling music from the early 2000's "oldies" sometimes (even if that isn't quite accurate!).

Hi - You are my partner for the Read my Profile and Leave a nice Comment. I see we have some things in common. It really was nice reading your profile and getting to meet other Swap-bot users. Very nice to see you like to read. I read a book at a time but not all the time as I also read: newspapers, magazines, and of course many things on the internet.
