Description:

There hasn't been a magic yarn ball swap in awhile, so I thought I would start one. I thought it would be fun to have a "pamper yourself" theme to this yarn ball. You can add items such as lotions, powder, nail polish, soap, makeup, anything that would pamper your partner. Please send nautural fibers. NO fun fur or any acrylics. I want everyone to recieve nice yarn that they will enjoy knitting with. This is my first swap as cordinator and I will be banning anyone with a no send in their history unless they contact me with a reasonable explination. (When I mean reasonable I mean something like the package got lost in the mail). Newbies are welcome but you need to have a full profile and need to contact me in order to be in the swap. I have gotten flaked on in the past, and I want this to be a fun swap for everyone. Everyone will have one partner to send to. I am keeping this swap in the US and Canada because of shipping prices. I hope everyone has fun!

I just took part in one, and it was a blast unravelling my yarn ball to find the goodies inside! Sign me up for another!

Neenbug 05/ 8/2007 #

These are so much fun! Don't worry, I will send. I have been flaked on and it spoils it for everyone. I will also be an angel if you need one. Hopefully, we will never have to use angels again. Good luck with your first swap as coordinator. I am not brave enough yet but my daughter has done many.

Yes! A magic yarn ball swap! ......oh no, I hate it when it is US and Canada only.. :-( Sorry. I would have participated in this swap.

nyflorac 05/ 9/2007 #

Hi, I have two questions. The Pumper set is usually quite big box...And it couldn't fit in the yarn ball. (even a lotion bottle could be quite big...) How should we do? And then... Is there any price limit? Thank you.

knitster 05/10/2007 #

Hey guys! I can't believe the response already. I knew I would forget something. Since this is a pamper yourself swap lets make the total cost around 20.00 including yarn but before shipping. Also, on big bottles what I would do is wrap them at the very end just a couple of times so they are with the ball, but still showing. And if you have any color prefrances, yarn prefrances, allergies, or any scents that you are partial too list them here. Also inclulde anything that you would love to recieve so your partner can have a better idea of what to get. I'm so glad everyone is up for this! Have fun getting your stuff together! :)Amy

HI! Umm so I like most anything. I do perfer vanilla-y sents and other subtle non overwehleming smells. As far as colors I perfer, I like red, hot pink, blues, and lighter colors. But I really am easy to please and so excited about this swap!!! Just a question when do you get a swap partner? I know I am the odd ball right now so does it depend on when someone else signs up or is there a set date? Cause I would really like to get shopping!

user4688 05/10/2007 #

Hi, Love those yarn ball. I love green, love to knit sock. Do love nail polish but only in the summer on my toes so that great. Favorite colors are pale colors, bronze, or clear. Do love french manucure. Love hand and body lotion, fruity scents.

I don't wear any red colors.

sewingspoon 05/11/2007 #

Hi! I love bright neon, shiny, or tacky things (maybe for yarn or nail polish, etc). I have piles of lotion, but anything else would be wonderful (possibly hair masks/accessories, I have alot of hair!). Vanilla and floral scents make me sneeze, but otherwise I'm not picky! Hope I made the hunt a bit easier! -Spoon

P.S. I am a beginner knitter, so please keep that in mind when buying the yarn (eg. nothing too fuzzy, or nothing too fancy--> acrylics are fine with me even though the swap guidelines say otherwise, I wouldn't want to make a mess of gorgeous yarn!).

user7535 05/14/2007 #

So... not having done a yarn balls wap before, I assume you put all the goodies together and wrap a skein of yarn around it all? Yes?

I'm down with that.

My favorite scent is jasmine. I also like lilac, floral blends, milk & honey, and SUBTLE vanilla scents. Other that those few foody scents, I do NOT like food scents (especially banana) as they always seem icky-fake to me. For the same reason, I don't really care for rose scented things. I don't like patchoulli, either. I have a lot of lotion and soaps that I'm trying to work through, but powder, lip glosses, and foot creams would be appreciated here in the desert. If you pick lip gloss or nail polish, I tend toward pale shades of pink for toes and blue- or brown-toned reds for lips.

This sounds like fun to me. :)

user24 05/14/2007 #

This is going to be fun. I love the theme!

My fave scents are lavender, basil and most other herbs really. I'm not a big rose or flowery type. I also like the smell of vanilla! I love lip gloss/balm, lotion, shampoo, soaps, nail polish, wax/pomade. I can't really use bath bubbles or anything like that, since we're mainly a shower household.

As for yarn, I'm all about wool. I'm a sock knitter too! Favorite colors are burgundy, plum, brown but also a sucker for pinks, lavender/purple, blue, reds.

Anything else you need to know, just ask!

knitster 05/14/2007 #

Yes guys, sorry about that too. You are suppose to wrap all of your goodies inside the yarn ball and the suprise is unwinding everything inside! Some other suggestions... I went shopping at wal mart and in the cosmetics section they have individual facial masks and foot therapy...I got a couple of those...also had some cute gel eye masks and cute sponges. You will get your partner on the day after the last sign up day. It's okay to start buying generic things early, lip gloss, nail polish, those sort of things, but I would wait until I got my partner to buy any sents or yarn. By the way, my favorite colors are pink, black, and white, and I love japanese cherry blossom at bath and body. I also love berts bees stuff. I am totally into noro and bamboo yarn, but I would perfer not to get wool. I also love tea, but am not into coffee.

aqueoustransmegan 05/15/2007 #

hi guys im fine with anything but mohair or angora yarns and products with lavender or that are lavender scented [lavender coloured is fine!]...sorry i'm allergic!

marieoday 05/15/2007 #

I love cherry & berry scented things, as well as bright reds in nailpolish & lipstick. I'd rather not get anything like bath salts due to the lack of a bath tub.

Neenbug 05/17/2007 #

I knit socks and scarves, etc. so sock yarn or any good yarn would do. No acrylic though. I am a bubble bath person and love all scents really. My faves at the time are lilac, honeysuckle and peach. I don't wear red on my nails but anything else would do. I Love coffee and spice teas. I like foot creams, lip gloss or balms, hand creams anything really, I am easy to please!

kgeslab 05/17/2007 #

I knit socks in the summer. I'd love some new pattern for anything. I love to practice new stitches in scarves or dish cloths. I love yellow, but probably not for socks! I really enjoy anything scented or relaxing and I LOVE knitting, so this swap is for me! Some cheap or highly scented lotions make me break out - so no lotion, please.

kellep 05/19/2007 #

I'm looking forward to this swap! I like natural fibers...wool is my favorite. And of course sock yarn!

I can't wait to get my partner...I have all sorts of ideas on what to buy.

user7535 05/21/2007 #

Regarding yarn: I DON'T knit socks. Please no sock yarn, as I have yet to come up with a use for the few skeins I already have. I love animal fibers, but they are "safe" for me, and I'm trying to branch out into plant fibers more, since it makes sense living in the desert and all. Cotton (no kitchen cotton, please. I have tons!), hemp, linen, etc. But, I wouldn't say no to wool or alpaca, either. ;)

Oh, and I don't drink coffee or tea.

user8476 05/23/2007 #

Last minute sign up! My first magic-ball swap, very excited here.

I like most scents, with the exception of anything vanilla. I don't like to smell like food, hehe.

Thats my only restriction. I'm not picky, I love all yarns, all colors, though I tend to gravitate towards blues and greens.

Oh! I have really long fingernails, and always love nail polish, emery boards, etc.

cassagain 05/24/2007 #

This will be such a great swap!

Lesseee, me- I'm vegan, so if you got me I'll apologize in advance. :) I don't use wool, or beeswax. I also don't eat sugar, so sending edible treats is hard. Don't knock yourself out. :) I love cotton, bamboo, soysilk yarns. I use wood or bamboo needles, no metal. I love summer scents like coconut and vanilla, but don't care for flowery scents at all. Other than those few things (LOL) I'm easy. :D And THANK YOU!!!

knittercritter 05/24/2007 #

I'm new to these swaps but I luv to give and surprise people so I'm looking forward to this.

I have yet to meet a color I don't like but purple and greens are my favs, blacks and neutrals my least. I would love to receive yarn that someone has dyed themselves or something a little "off the beaten path" in any kind of fiber as I really like doing freeform projects. I don't wear nail polish, scents or take baths but love eye shadows and lipstick, especially in goth shades. And in case it matters, I love cats and horses and anything oriental or new age.

kellep 05/24/2007 #

Okay...I can't wait to start wrapping. I have never done this before. I should add that I like food smells except for vanilla (I overdid it a while back! And no sugar for me. I have my ball planned out just waiting to see who I get as a partner, then I'll pick out some items they would like.

aqueoustransmegan 05/25/2007 #

I didnt plan ahead when doing my ball so whoever gets me is getting full skein of yarn + some extra that coordinated I had laying around...i didn't want to wrap the whole thing over so you get a bonus!

user8542 05/31/2007 #

I'm so excited. I looked on Flickr for some of the old yarn ball pictures, and whoever thought of this--what a great idea! I love bath and body things, especially anything peach. I knit a lot, 5 or 6 hours a day, and love patterns. I would rather buy quality than quantity, but, just like wine, I've learned in life that you can find quality in the inexpensive just as readily as you can the highest price. I love natural fibers, and anyone that gets me shouldn't worry over whatever they send...I'm sure it will be great!

poofsizzle 06/ 1/2007 #

Yay! I'm excited about this. I did this with my knitting circle in college and everyone had such fun! I look forward to whoever I get. I have a really great ball of yarn that will be perfect for this! Now I just have to wait to find out who I get so that I can get the great stuff for inside... As for what I'd love... flower, citrus, herb and tea smells are ideal... other than that I am not picky!! When do we find out who our intended target is?

knitster 06/ 1/2007 #

Partners have been assigned. I hope everyone has fun putting their magic yarn balls together and I hope that everyone strives to get a heart rating. Have fun! Amy amyandpaul

kellep 06/ 1/2007 #

Should we contact our partners or remain anonymous?

RudeNun 06/ 1/2007 #

Well, you can now view who your partner is.

But mine doesn't give what her favorite color is :( Now I must choose a color and I'm not too sure about it..

knitster 06/ 2/2007 #

It's okay to contact your partners. You don't have to, but if you have a question about anything you can go ahead and email her. Amy amyandpaul

RudeNun 06/ 3/2007 #

'Tis ok, I've chosen a color :)

poofsizzle 06/ 4/2007 #

Hmmm, now that my ball is re-wrapped it looks more like a Monster-yarn ball than a Magic-yarn ball. Maybe I should re-wrap it...

knitster 06/ 5/2007 #

don't feel bad poofsizzle, they all look funny. I have accumilated so much stuff that it took 4 skiens of yarn to wrap everything i'm sending! By the way, since there are so many newbies participating I would lime for everyone to let me know when they recieve there package so I can keep tabs. You can leave it on the page, or email me when you recieve. Have fun everyone.

RudeNun 06/ 7/2007 #

I just dropped off cutecake's magic yarn ball @ the post office, hope you enjoy it!

knitster 06/ 8/2007 #

I sent my package today to purlingfairy, Hope you like it.

knittercritter 06/11/2007 #

O.H.M.Y.G.O.S.H. I had no idea how long it takes to wrap these up! I have been at it for 2 days. Hopefully, I'll have it doen tonight.

RudeNun 06/12/2007 #

I had my brother unwrap the original yarnball while I wrapped the magic yarnball. It was fun! I'll definitely be signing up for another in the future!

knittercritter 06/13/2007 #

Wheeee! It's off! What a bowling ball.

knitster 06/13/2007 #

Ok girls, the 15th is just 2 days away. There are still alot of you that have not sent your package yet. Get those balls ready and be sure to get them in the mail by Friday. marieoday 06/14/2007 #

user24 06/15/2007 #

Knitshui, Your ball is on it's way!!! Have fun unwrapping it and be careful cutting the box open, I had to smoosh it down a bit to fit in the box!!!

RockstarMom 06/15/2007 #

Whew! I finally got on tonight ;) Anywho ~ knittygurl your yarn ball has flown the coop. Hope you enjoy it.

Amy, thx for the fun and I look forward to doing it again. ;D

lulubird6 06/18/2007 #

knittercritter, thanks for the amazing ball and pattern and gorgeous hook! can't wait to start my project!

knitster 06/19/2007 #

Girls, I am very upset that some people have not sent their packages yet. You are now 4 days past the send date and must get packages out immediately. I just found out that I am pregnant, and I am also planning a wedding, so this will be my last swap for awhile, but I hope everyone had fun and I hope that those people that have not gotten their packages out yet get them out NOW!

knittercritter 06/23/2007 #

I thought you did a great job of coordinating this swap but there will always be "issues" that come up. Do you need an "angel" to send to anyone? I'd be more than willing to help. And congratulations on the your pregnancy!

knitster 06/25/2007 #

well, I think that everyone has gotten their packages out but 2 people. I have already contacted knittercritter about being an angel, and i really appreciate the offer. For those of you that were late sending your packages out, I hope that you learn from this experience and do not make the same mistake again. It was very important to me that all participants have a good time with this swap, and I feel like there have been lots of problems. For the two of you that have still refused to send out your packages, I hope you get your bad Karma that will be coming to you. It is very mean to take advantage of a friendly swap like this. The same rules are still in effect. Please, Please, Please let me know when you recieve your package. If you do not recieve a package please let me know because know matter what, everyone that signed up for this swap will recieve a package from someone, even if it isn't your partner. I hope everyone keeps in touch. thanks, Amy

I received my package from my angel and its a biggie! ;D I can't wait to unravel it. Sorry that we had to use angels but glad they were available. I hope Knittygurl is okay too, haven't heard from her and I don't know if she got her yarn ball either.

Looking forward to doing it again. Thx Amy ;D
