Description:

Note: I had this listed USA only at first but after a tender request, I have changed it to be worldwide. So join the fun!

I am a bona fide art zine fiend. These are the zines that are about the zinester's favorite art form, craft or inspiration. Some of my favorites have been about mixed media artwork, art journaling, felt, sewing, and beading...but there's always something more out there!

For this zine swap you'll make a high-quality zine of at least 20 half-sized pages (that's 8.5 x 11 folded in half) on one of your favorite ways to express yourself artistically. A really great zine will talk a little about what you love and why you love it, and will include lots of eye candy like pictures of your favorite work and/or interesting backgrounds. You may even include a tutorial for a project if you dare.

You will have five partners for this swap, so feel free to make a zine and then copy it five times. Or, if you're really ambitious, you can always make each issue entirely by hand. It's your project, baby.

Please include a small sample pack relating to your art form in each zine. Fact is, sometimes these little packs are the best fun in the whole project...both to send and to receive. Snips of fabric, collage images, embroidery floss, beads and stickers all make great zine inclusions.

I'll be giving us all a month after the last sign-up date to be sure that we can really give this project some heart. Also, it's summer. And we all know how life happens in summer.

Now to be a big fat stinker. I will absolutely be checking participants to make sure that only kick-butt, reliable folks will be in this swap. 4.8 or better only. No horrible flake-outs. A zine is a labor of love. I will be doing everything I can to make sure that everyone in this swap will be getting back as much as they give.

Now what are you waiting for? It's time to make a zine!

Had this on my watch as it was not international, and now it is. Spooky but fabulous. Thanks :-)

I have never made a zine, is it like a journal? Do you have any links?

lynnemcf 06/27/2009 #

HURRAH! I went to an art market today and bought a zine. Its this one www.myspace.com/sugarpaperzine Mine wont be a fab, but at least now I know what to aim at.

We have our partners, guys! Just enough folks to play! Yay!

Also, for Lynne and others who may be wondering...

Check out a few of these sites to see a few of my favorite art zines and zinesters. Hopefully you'll get some nifty ideas. But the beautiful thing about zines is they're ALL fab!!

I get an error message on etsy for the last two links

Can anyone clarify how many pages there should be in this zine?

TangleCrafts 07/10/2009 #

I'm working on the understanding that if I start with 5 A4 (US letter-size-ish) pieces of paper & fold them in half, that will make a zine of 20 A5 (US half-size) pages, counting front & back as separate pages. If I'm wrong, hopefully someone will post here to clarify!

lynnemcf 07/11/2009 #

Thanks TangleCrafts. That is what I have done.

robinomayberry 07/12/2009 #

Yes everybody---4 A4 pages folded in half will do the job!

Thanks for being on your collective game!

I have posted my zines. I'd appreciate feedback, since this is my very first zine. I had a lot of fun making it ... I hope you like the result. Its really cool that there are just 6 of us in the swap, so we all get to see each others work.

Wow...they're starting to come in and so far, GORGEOUS!
