Description:

This is an International zine challenge!

I'm new to zines, but I love them. I love reading them and have just started making them.

This challenge is inspired by "Revelling in New York" by Heather and Megan, which came out last March. "Part storytelling and part guidebook" It's about what they love about their town, New York, and it's full of the kinds of interesting suprises that only a person who is intimate with a place could offer.

The challenge is to create one zine (at least three copies) about your town.

What makes it special, beautiful, funny, sad, quirky or unique, etc... An insider's view.
You can interpret that and approach it in any way that you like. Text, photos, art--a mixture. It can be any size, but should be around 20 pages at least.

You will mail one copy to each of your 3 partners.

I'm going to limit this to people with 4.7 or above ratings--and a history of no no-sends in the past 6 months. (If you are interested, but are a newbie or have something going on with your ratings, please contact me).

Is there a standard or specific size that these have to be when put together? i think this is an awesome idea, and i'm really excited!

Annette 06/ 9/2007 #

Hi Daisy! I'm so glad you signed up. These can be any size. I thought we'd leave it open. If you're looking for ideas, they talk a little about sizes and putting pages together on this wikibooks page:

Can this be a comp zine? By this I mean can we get other people to write about our city as well and then compile it into the zine?

Annette 06/19/2007 #

Yes, that sounds great Jack's Mom! As long as you make the zine and credit the contributors. I'd love to leave it open to interpretation-so we each have a chance to go in the direction that interests us most for this challenge. I'm excited to see how people approach the theme differently. We have a pretty amazing group of people already.

Aaahhh!!! I'm worried I will not be able to participate!!! I've written some of the zine already, but I'm not sure I will be able to complete this swap. Cross your fingers, I think I can do it.

If it's ok with everyone, we could leave the swap date the same and switch the send by date a few days later? To give people a little extra time to create them if they're crunched for time?

Annette 07/29/2007 #

I've heard from a couple of people I'm going to add a few days before the send date--everything else will stay the same.
