thi is an international swap,

in honor of ostara, for me, in my tradition, it means sweeping out the old dark energies of winter....welcomeing in the light! spring cleaning witchy style! make 1 besom, decorate it as you like, and send to one partner....

it does not have to be large, standing style, unless you can afford to ship such a thing...

but it should be hand held, symbolically workable,

just not mini .fit for a dollhouse is too small....but something you can symbolically sweep around the house with....

it can be an etsy purchase if you have no idea how to make one..alternatively you an buy the broom part and decorate it with ribbion, charms etc yourself....

some ideas can be twig and raffia/straw..corn husk/ dry moss roots...etc

how you make it is up to you but make it lovely, something you would want to have in your ritual!

for inspiration goto etsy and search besom there & on google,

questions comments??

blessed ostara!

for an alternative idea and to add a swap idea request..i am EDITING this swap to also offer the choice of decoratin/painting a (wooden) spoon for the kitchen with in you!

it also serves as an alternative for our down under members! no postal restrictions on a wooden or ceramic spoon! this can be decorated or painted on, or an etsy purchase as well!

both items are not required, ONLY 1

send your partner 1 spoon OR i besom!

hope this bring more of us out to play!!!

no requests, senders choice:)))

this sounds like a lot of fun, i'm definitely ready to welcome some light. just wanted to mention that since this is international there may be restrictions on what can be mailed, such as the twigs. that was the first thing that came to my mind, those cool twig brooms. really we would have to wait to have our partners assigned before getting started, no? please tell me what you think and then maybe we can have a little more time to create. thanks. peace, pat

yeah, i understand, australia /new zealand is a problem...no natural7organic imports......hm...we would have to wait for partners to be handed out i suppose or i would ban thos from down under.....

how about this, i extend the swap start date.and we see if any from down under wantt o join, please write a note here.....so we can think about this a bit more....

of course we can make non natural besoms....

think think....thinking.........

nah don't ban anyone. maybe just extend it another week or assign a week earlier. i myself did think of something else i might be able to use. up to you of course. happy valentine's day! xoxo

yeah it feels so sad to not let our aussie swappers in,

i will just say that another alternative will need to be thought of....

its not that difficult....welcome aussie and new zealanders!!!

I'm really glad you changed the swap to add spoons! I've been dying to "get around to" doing some complex pyrography and this was the excuse I needed! I just sat here this evening and finished one long spoon--too cool for words! I hope my partner likes it! One of these days I'll get around to making a besom, too. We have birch trees in the woods out back so... :)

I must comment on the video I posted above--I've also seem besoms made a little backwards from his technique-you take very green birch twigs (green so they are bendable) and tie them in three places around the ash handle, toward the bottom, with the curly bits pointing back up the handle, (backwards) then you fold them down over the tied area, and tie them three times again--see why they need to be green?. It gives the top of the twig head a rounded finish, instead of the cut-off look he makes. Just something different.
